All is not well in Buckeye Land

I apologize, maybe I'm not understanding. Isn't that the good part of the portal--kids that wouldn't start at their first choice now have options to play without being controlled by the program. I don't see then negative with that. I see the negative in top guys chasing money.
No we’re both right. Gives the kids a chance to play and equalizes the talent so the top five teams don’t have better 3rd teamers than everybody’s #1’s.

I don't think we're arguing good or bad about portal or NIL....

We're stating that it's leveled the playing field from the elite schools in the 4-team era.

Is it negative for the sport as a whole? Yeah. Probably. But it's seemingly here to stay...so now we might as well analyze the results. That's what we're discussing.

You mean like 2018 Alabama with Tua, Hurts, and Mac Jones in their quarterback room...while their running backs included Damien Harris, Josh Jacobs, Najee Harris, Brian Robinson Jr. and Jerome Ford.

NIL and the portal gets rid of some of that glut...and gives another SEC contender or a middle of the pack school a talented RB or QB.

They flat out put it on Tennessee bigtime. But being neutral and pulling for all B1G teams, my favorite part during the 1st round was the OSU fans chanting "SEC, SEC, SEC" during the game. SEC fans are the most arrogant around (along with a-hole Finebaum)......that had to be a loooong ride back to Tennessee for their fans.
And Clay Travis had to watch that blowout too. Phony prick. Leveraged some tenuous connection to Sandusky to trash Schiano and kill his candidacy for the UT job - if Schiano had the success of say, Saban, he would have welcomed the Gorilla with open arms. Let’s not kid ourselves. Kind of like all Penn State coaches were persona non grata in 2011 - until, of course, an Ohio State could pick up an LJ Sr on the cheap.

I was watching an online Tenn broadcast after the game on YouTube - from something like Volquest (I think) - and what really pis$ed them off was OSU emptying their bench early in the 4th quarter when they were up 42-10. Those Tenn. announcers were livid saying this should never happen against a Tenn team. I could be wrong, but I believe OSU played all of their QBs in this game. Those announcers really went after Heupel and his staff.

Maybe my favorite part of the Game was when the OSU fans started chanting that "SEC, SEC, SEC" BS. Hilarious !

Two aspects to this. First it is a very long season and it is smart to rest your team for the rest of the playoffs. Second, Devin Brown who is transferring has been a very loyal hard-working quarterback and I think Ryan Day was rewarding him for staying through the playoffs even though he will be entering the transfer portal at the end of the season.

OSU probably scores at least another TD had Day kept all of his starters in. Then Tennessee would accuse them of running up the score.
You pull starters early for a combination of 3 reasons:
1. Rest, huge game against Oregon coming up.
2. Give young players actual game experience. This is done with an eye to next year. OSU supposedly only returns 6 starters total next year.
3. Eliminate the risk of injury to key players. Again, huge game coming. OSU is already down 2 OL for the year.

with the way the portal now works and the $$ programs like OSU has to spend ie NIL..I'm not sure it matters as much anymore on "how many returning starters" leave or come back anymore...

just has to be controlled in some way..nothing is holding Phil Knight from entering in his "will" his entire fortune once he passes away to Oregon's use for NIL $...it has to be regulated in some way..hopefully by a 3rd party ie Commissioner...just an example of how out of control NIL can become...

OSU lost because they employed an idiotic offensive game plan that yielded 1 TD. Sure, the fg's didn't help and neither did the turnovers. Bottom line is UM scored 13 points and won.
Totally agree. Its actually incredible watching how OSU unloaded on the VOLS tapping into their overall offensive firepower specifically with their WR's..I mean...how..how in the world could OSU come up with the offensive game plan they had against Michigan..if Day gets blame...the Michigan game is exactly WHY he should be under so much pressure...as the Preseason #1..and every "expert" in the world sharing how OSU hands down has the best overall talent AND should walk away with this years Natty..anything..anything short of that ncluding their overall..payroll...is a failure...it just is...

Claims the SEC has collapsed seems unfounded right now
The question for us is what happens after our elite draft class leaves--can we maintain the success?
Ohio State was always in the mix before. Not really sure what has changed other than Bama lost Saban
and Georgia is still lurking...i bet they beat ND..IMO handidly then..if we get past Boise State we make it a game in the Semi's..not sure if we have the depth to match Georgia though..I see Georgia and OSU in the Championship game...of course hope we get there...just will obvioulsy be a very tough road..

That's a question many CF fans-experts are still asking. I think Day just puckered up in that one. Word was that his job was on the line if he lost to Tenn (don't know how true) so he just let everything rip and didn't hold back. Tennessee basically walked into a buzz saw

Just read that OSU and Texas are the 2 co-favorites (tied) out of Vegas

Michigan is in his head a lot like Ohio State is in ours. Also in the players' heads. Don't underestimate the mental aspect here.

The patchwork offensive line of OSU and it being a major problem is overblown. They just reload. I guarantee you that if we ever made it to the NC game vs OSU their O line would play like an NFL team against us.

Yea, you're probably right as that Tenn DL has 2 or 3 solid NFL prospects so I concentrated a lot on the OSU OL vs the Tenn DL and the OSU OL really controlled that matchup - bigtime. OSU had a few freshmen-sophomores playing - and starting for a 1st time - on that OL and they looked all world

They could easily win it all.....unfortunately.
