All yinz guys that have been screaming to fire Chambers

They should host an NIT game, should be one of the favorites to win it. They need to get to NYC.

Disappointing to lose the last 3 like we did in the season. Beating Nebraska again would have given us a better seed and an upset over another team besides OSU would have put us in the tournament.

Officiating was bad both times we played Purdue. I didn’t really notice officiating any time all year except the two times we played Purdue, and the first Maryland game.

I don’t think Carr will enter the draft because he could go Undrafted. Nobody in that position would leave after their sophomore year. I think this team is basically together one more year, and if all return should be in the top 3 of the B1G

If Carr comes back, they will be a very good team next year. I have been pretty anti-Chambers and I think long term we’re still in pretty bad shape, but for one year (next year) this team could be pretty damn good. After that, I think we drop back to being stuck in mediocrity for a long time.

I also agree with your point about the officiating. When I coached younger kids, my complaint with officials was they didn’t know how to officiate big kids....it seems to be a problem at the college level too. You can’t allow a big guy to bang and grab for position but then call the defender for doing the same thing. If you’re going to let them play, let both sides play otherwise you can’t defend them.

Agree on the hosting. I'd guess we'll host a couple games as a 2 seed or so.

But I don't love our chances. Beyond trying to patch things together without Mike, we played to the level of our opponents way too much this year, and I worry about hosting teams like Buffalo/Northeastern/Bradley in the first round or two. Need to play with the edge that we've found the last 6 weeks, and the NIT against a mid-major is a bad spot for that.

I just hope we get picked for the NIT. The NIT is there to make money by matchups that folks will pay to watch. They don't have to take anybody they do not want. Mind you, I think the team will get a bid. But I'm not 100% sure. We'll see in a week.

For now, let's just enjoy 3 wins over tOSU!

I am 100% sure we'll get an NIT bid, but its like going to the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl. Almost no one, including most Penn State alums, will care.

We are an NIT lock.

No time to start all over. We are getting Philly talent for the first time ever. We have a coach with deep roots there. For the first time ever we are getting upper 20% talent.

Yet we still can’t make the tournament after seven years.

The last 2 classes haven't seen us land 1 kid from Philly. Chambers success in Philly is overstated.

Give him a three yr extension, he has earned that with the best recruiting in decades. In two years we will see if he can maintain that level of recruiting and see how the team develops. If he doesn't improve buy out the last year and get a new coach then.

With all the scandals brewing in bball, it would not be a good time to hire a guy and then find out he is a crook and have to start over.

Who from Philly do you feel that we missed on in the last 2 classes? Like, specific names?

Either you'll have to criticize Par for not landing the couple kids that ended up at Nova (or consider Reading as part of Philly), or you'll name guys that might have been a bit of a reach. Philly just hasn't had the players the last couple of years, but that's changing quickly as you look at the sophomores and juniors in the city.

I thought it was a much bigger miss to not pull in a grad transfer this year.

You are incorrect...I have never wanted to fire Franklin. But Franklin was in year two....Chambers is in year seven, huuuggeee difference. I didn’t want to fire Chambers in year two either (or year three or four).
EXACTLY! Why are the Chambers defenders stooping to this level? This team under-performed this year. Should have been in the NCAA tournament without needing a miraculous run in the B1G championships. My gut tells me he'll be back for year 8 and I stick to what I have been saying - it's a mistake.

So, you're agreeing that the top-tier kids in Philly still have no interest?
I don't even care where the kids come from but I believe people are overstating our Philly success because of 3 players over 2 classes. Since the 2016 we haven't had a single four star player from anywhere.
I think we all agree that Chambers isn't the best coach so he needs to recruit better if we're going to be successful. The sad thing is we all agree that if Carr leaves next year won't be good.
I don't see any reason to keep him other than people are afraid of change

The top two kids in Philly went to Villanova. That certainly doesn't mean that "top tier kids in Philly have no interest".

As far as Philly, are you forgetting about Shep, D.J., and Bostick? (I assume yes, since you're attributing the "myth" of success in Philly to 3 guys)

And Myles Dread is certainly a 4 star caliber player, even if some of the services haven't given the 4th star yet.

You're setting the bar very low for "deserving an extension" IMO
I also think our talent is overrated--there's little depth beyond the big 4 and Garner

I’m glad you raised this point. Our bench is very thin and its looking like another eon in the tank when we lose the starters. Recruiting has not been good over the last two years

But they didn't have interest in us. Chambers will never be able to compete with Wright. That's not even debatable so what's the long term goal here with Chambers. Once every 5-6 years he can pull a few second-tier kids from Philly as long as Nova doesn't want them or can't make them a promise of playing with their high school teammates?

I see no reason to keep him. Absolutely none. His recruiting isn't good enough to make up for his coaching.

The last two recruiting classes aren't good enough. Essentially if we can't recruit in Philly then we scramble for three star kids and hope they exceed expectations. This isn't going to work

Pat's recruiting is still good. I was worried things would drop off a cliff after 2016 but Harrar, for one, looks like he is going to be a great player. Wheeler is also very good.

I don't know why Pat couldn't get this kind of recruiting going back in 2011; maybe the negative publicity around PSU hurt. but at least he has done it now.

Pat's coaching is still not amazing but it was better this year

The missed NCAA tournament (if we miss it) can be blamed entirely on Reaves missing four games.

Missing a player for 4 games isn't an excuse. You find a way to win those games. That's on the coach for STILL not having any depth. We're out because we lost every non-conference game with any level of difficulty. That falls on the coach

I don't think there's any "if"....we needed to beat Purdue in the regular season or yesterday. We've only proven we can beat Ohio State...3 wins against them is great but who else can we beat? What have we proven...

Yes, I agree that the OOC falls on the coach. I don't think anybody saw the Reaves suspension coming and it was difficult to adjust. That falls on the coach but mostly on the player. We would have won all of those games and been a lock for the tournament.

Harrar and Wheeler (and Bostic) are really weak on the offensive side of the ball. I’ve never seen a weaker bench in terms of offensive output.

But, you have to be prepared for guys missing games...that's on the coach to adjust. We didn't.
The non-conference record wasn't good enough, we weren't able to overcome the loss of Reaves and we weren't able to win any of the last 3 regular season games. I blame the coaching. We can blame the players too.

No matter how we spin it. This was a disappointing season. Anything less than an NCAA bid was unacceptable IMO

I mean, we saw yesterday...if Carr is cold we're done. I still don't understand why we didn't do more to get the ball to Garner

Moore a PF/C, Forrester F, both went to Indiana so not like they were averse to playing in the B1G.

Harrar is a true freshman. I think he is going to be awesome.

If you have never seen a weaker bench you must not have watched PSU basketball for very long. The DeChellis years in particular featured no bench whatsoever.

I agree that this season was unacceptable. They should have finished ahead of Miichigan in the standings, we had the ability to do so.

However, there is still a slim chance that the committee will put us in one of the play-in games. The 3 wins over OSU are not going to be overlooked.

The talking heads believe we should be out. But these are the same idiots who went apoplectic when the committee selected VCU over a crappy Colorado team and then VCU almost won the national title.
