All yinz guys that have been screaming to fire Chambers

Chambers will lead PSU men's BB out of the abyss that we have been since forever .

Bettin' yinz are the same guys that were screaming "Fire Franklin" after the '16 Michigan game. :p
You are incorrect...I have never wanted to fire Franklin. But Franklin was in year two....Chambers is in year seven, huuuggeee difference. I didn’t want to fire Chambers in year two either (or year three or four).

It was NCAA or bust this year...that should still be the case.
I never wanted Franklin to be fired but Chambers has had long enough...this comparison doesn't even make sense given tenure.

Both had significant challenges when they came on board. CJF hand strung with after effects of sanctions. PC inherited a train wreck that DeChellis left behind. For CJF, the cupboards had a few items left; for PC, not only were the cupboards bare, the cupboards themselves were missing. Even though I’ve been frustrated this BB season and felt a couple times it was torturous being a PSU BB fan, PC has brought in the best assembly of talent in decades ( maybe ever), has us headed in the right direction, represents PSU well by being a good citizen, is doing a lot of good for others. He deserves an extension.

You're setting the bar very low for "deserving an extension" IMO
I also think our talent is overrated--there's little depth beyond the big 4 and Garner

We are talking sports here, its not supposed to make sense.

Chambers is finally making solid progress and you want him fired? Sure it took longer than anyone would have liked but there were issues. One PSU has never been a Bball school and recruiting has always been tough. Pa has a lot of great bball schools like St Joe's, Penn, 'nova, Temple, La Salle, Drexel, and Pitt ( prior to the last two years) that we have to compete with Chambers finally got Philly kids to buy in and you want to stop that now.

Add in the Sandusky scandal just as Chamber was hired. PSU was so toxic it hurt more than football. Made it hard for any coach to recruit.

You really think we could get a top quality coach to come here with out spending over $10mil/yr? Especially if you fire a guy that is finally turning out a winner? You gonna tell the next guy that he has to make the NCAA dance at a school that rarely does so or your fired. Great way to get a good coach.

I don't believe we're in good shape for the future unlike you. I think Carr leaves after this year and we struggle to go 500 in conference play next year

Bet you didn't say that 4 days ago. And you won't be here to say it 3 days from now either.

Never wanted him fired. He has a very young team with raw talent that needed time to gell. He is recruiting better than any I can remember and the next couple of years should be good. The BJC is finally a fun place to watch a game and that should help recruiting too. Give him a three yr extension.

A senior, a junior and 3 sophomores that played a ton last year is not a young team and sure as hell isn't a "very young team"

Let’s make NCAA first. Not many quality wins. CBS just said if they win today they are still not in

Hopefully people start listening or this place is going to be a disaster on Selection Sunday...
Actually, who cares right now--just win and let things play out

I’ve been on the fence with PC. This tourney warrants him an extension. He has recruited better than anyone in my 6 decades. I’m a 4 yr PSU letterman (not basketball) so my loyalties are solid. Yet, he needs to improve as a bench coach. I was impressed by the knowledge of how OSU would double Carr setting up the dish for dunk. And was not happy when defense chose not to put anyone on the inbounder allowing yncontested into the frontcourt with 3.1 seconds. Yet at times the isolation offense needs to know when to switch gears.
That said — enjoy the game. Need to get Shep some touches today to help that 50% 3 pt percentage yesterday.

But beating a ranked Ohio State three times, was, well, fun.

With the college basketball landscape being what it is right now, who exactly would you have replace Chambers? Also, what name coach that is clean is going to come to PSU? Especially considering our administrative peccadillos and disinterest in funding basketball or anything other than what puts money in our BoT's and their friend's pockets?

Unless we get a Pegula type donor for basketball I don't see how we do much better than Chambers, not that I think he should be replaced.

I'm in favor of extending Pat, but wanted to throw this somewhere...

Goodman is reporting that Thad Matta is meeting with Mississippi today. Interesting fit.

So we keep Chambers forever just because we don’t know who would possibly want the job...ok, gotcha.

I would extend Pat but only because I don't think any coach can win big here unless he cheats. That said, this is a good season (for us), not a great one. Beating OSU 3 times is nice, but if you don't make the NCAA's (and we won't), in the end, it doesn't mean much.

Uh, I never once said keep Chambers forever. How did you get that from what I wrote? Not sure why you're saying gotcha because you missed the point.

The point is we have bigger problems facing the basketball program than Pat Chambers. For starters our administration isn't going to pay a big name coach the money necessary to make them "want the job".

You think the type of coach that would immediately improve the team is gonna come here for less money than every where else? To shittier facilities? To an administration that's aloof because the program makes money while failing?

You were trolling me, right? You really couldn't have missed what I was saying that badly.

If Chambers warrants an extension by not accomplishing anything of substance then what would get him fired?

So what’s going to change? You said we couldn’t get the type of coach we would need to win here, so what’s going to change? If we have to keep Pat now because the type of coach we need won’t come here, when will the type of coach we need come here? Two years from now, three, four?

I understand exactly what you're saying man. Bottom line, the administration has to want to improve the program first. That unfortunately means money. It's profitable even in it's darkest days, so they don't care to spend to improve it. Until that changes, well....never.

You don't happen to have mega rich uncle, do you? Nigerian Prince?

So you didn't watch many games this year? He can't do anything with talent. There is no way we should have lost multiple games we did this year, which is why we are out of the tournament. Multiple horrible, horrible losses. But give him 3 more years, right.

It is unbelievable to me the lengths some go to here to not fire a coach. It's all rationalization.

I do...I just found out through an email. My fortune is on its way.:)

They are little scared babies who are happy with participation ribbons.

Not a big fan of the technical before the half. But I suppose he wanted to defend his best player.

I think Pat did a decent job with an extremely thin team. Ya there were some head scratchers for sure. But they have essentially one serviceable paint player in Watkins. The guys behind Watkins don’t deserve scholarships (maybe Harrar can be ok but Pierce and the other guy are jokes).

First 20 win season in a long time. Big 10 semis. 500 record in big ten. All improvements over last years. Team isn’t there yet. They force bad shots, need to learn how to pass and play as team.

Chambers is recruiting better than PsU has recruited in the past. Think he bought himself some more time with this season. Will be interesting to see if the team stays together and whether the improve next year.
