Alternate Throwback Uniforms for Indiana Game

My buddy who played from 69-73 said they only wore white socks. Video said they wore those stockings from 70-72. I just texted him.

Edit: He just texted me that they wore white shoes one season.

As far as throwbacks go, this is a solid A design. Nothing not to like considering the theme of the day for the Indiana game.

Also a good way to dip the toes into these waters for alternate jerseys by going retro instead of cutting edge first.

Agree with artsandletters, love the idea but hate the white shoes. You just know that the white shoes are going to be the story on game day.

This is a true 'retro' look! Takes nice elements from multiple generations and combines them, along with the traditional blue & white, while maintaining the uniqueness of the uniform.

Not sure how else they could do something like this. We don't have a 3rd or 4th color, nor do we have a putrid state flag to emblazon on our uniform...

And horsecollars should be mandatory! When Cabinda broke that out last year, it warmed my heart. Brought back memories of Salt and Pepper, Rich Milot et al. Loved when they would introduce every player at the beginning of ABC telecasts. Each player gave their name, height and weight, and hometown. Horesecollars made them look like badasses!

I think I recall seeing Cappy wear striped socks in '73. Maybe not. Maybe before then.

I recall hearing that they went to the knee-high white socks in '74 at the request of Jimmy Cefalo.

Well, my buddy's last season would've been '72. They played OKLA in the Sugar Bowl on Dec. 31. Wasn't '73 Cappy's last season?

Aside, I was at a frat party that my football friends brought me to. I was flirting with this girl until her boyfriend walked up - Cappy. I retreated with alacrity, mumbling something haha. I was a little taller but all I could see was that huge neck of his - jiminy crickets:).

Without the white shoes, I doubt many would notice the changes and even fewer would know they were throwbacks. Most will thin they are new.

So, you were at Fiji? And your buddy was a Fiji? I may have met him. (Was it Bob Knechtel, by chance?)
I knew Mike Capp, but not John. John visited the house a few times during my time there when he was in the NFL (Rams at that time, I think). He had the biggest/widest shoulders I had ever seen.

The '72 season was the Sugar Bowl vs. Oklahoma played on NY Eve, I think. Cappy had the flu and did not play. We had little to no offense in that game vs. that great OU defense.

The white shoes actually match the uniform. White with a blue swoosh look great. I understand that black shoes are a classic PSU thing, but black is not one of the two colors of PSU. Blue and white are, though.

UGH! We wore white shoes for the only time in the 79' Sugar Bowl. How did that work out?
Absolutely forget the freaking white shoes. That game still haunts. The white shoes were never a tradition. I'm good on the rest of this. I still recall thinking that Bruce Clark looked goofy in those white shoes.

Love it. Not a fan of that version of the Shrine and would prefer the forward facing head/face logo, but otherwise very sharp. Looking forward to seeing these in action!

How about going back to the original, and still official, Penn State Royal Blue? Paterno changed the football unis from royal to navy early in his career and eventually all sports followed.
