Any new programs for next year?

There is a 3-or-4 year process a school must go through to add any sport. The only D1 school that is in that process, that I'm aware of currently, is Fresno State. They'll begin wrestling in 2017-18, but to my knowledge, have no conference affiliation yet.

Would make a return home match for Nick Nevills, plus another meet and greet with Snacks.

Pac 12? Would give them 7 programs instead of 6.

Sounds likely to be the place they'll land...just saying nothing's been announced. 6, btw, is the minimum required for a qualifying tournament to get at least 1 auto-qualifier at every weight.

I'm still writing the University of Arizona, and I'm sure Chief is trying too....Everything is in place out there as far as high schools, interest, and support...just need the $$.

None that I know of, which is good news.

With the growth of woman's wrestling at the Olympic level I am surprised there is not woman's wrestling at the collegiate level. I would think that by adding a Woman's program it would be easier for schools to add Men's wrestling because of the Title IX compliance.

Cal Baptist is in the process of moving up, not a new program, but new to Div 1

Could have the match right before the Men's match

Oh man...where to start on this one? Imo...generally, "new" programs cost $$$'s, regardless of whether it's a men's or women's sport, and unless it is self-sufficient, or close, money-wise, there's much resistance to start any program. Exceptions are when benefactors step up and defray the losses.

Money drives all these decisions. It's easy to say "just start a women's program in wrestling at school xxx", hard to do.

Nice in theory until the professionally offended class thinks women are being treated like the JV squad.
Agreed, but can you imagine the attendance if it were just the Ladies. If this was before the guys I would think Rec Hall may get half full?

It depends on whether they go with jello or mud; and bikinis or singlets.

...States like Georgia, Texas and Florida, which already have expanding high school programs, should be fertile ground...
...the return of a former program at Clemson should be attractive for the ACC ...
... other schools that had programs in the SEC were LSU, Auburn and Alabama...
...there must be at least one Pegula at each of those schools that could step forward...
