Any vets on this board? Animal types…

Dog has an ear hematoma. Been draining it but keeps coming back. Vet told me they can do surgery but no guarantee it will fix it. I’ve read online if you just let it go it will eventually heal itself. I have a head rap from the vet that keeps his ears close to his head so he’s not shaking. Just wondering how to get this thing to go away.

Two outcomes:
1. Do what you are currently doing. It may drain well enough to heal properly. With this type of treatment I see, at times, scar tissue develope between the two layers of the pinna.
2. Surgery is my #1 option. Open the pinna. Drain properly. Curette out scar tissue and excess blood. Suture pinna back together. The quicker this is done post hematoma occurring, the better the out come.
Good luck.
What breed of dog???

It’s a pit/boxer mix. The problem we’re having is the vet told us if they do surgery it’s no guarantee…. But we’re draining his ear every day. And again, I found people online that say just to leave it alone and it will heal itself. So I’m just trying to figure out what to do.

Exactly, surgery is no guarantee. I believe it's the best option. Now I don't know a lot about the case and there be other circumstances.
Seems like you're leaning to self medicate which is ok.
Good luck and keep doing what you're doing.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought it was about military vets, special forces, seal types etc.
