This afternoon he was talking about the things that happened on Saturday that he loved hated and one of the loved things, was "the warm round of applause those Penn State people up there in Happy Valley gave to Matt Millen..." Calling it "one of the only positive takeaways he could find from a bunch of meaningless spring games that people make way too big a deal out of"

Later he added the things we confirm in the spring, are the level of dedication the fan bases have for their team. Again, 61,000 giving a standing ovation to a former player who hasn't always been a fan favorite after his recent heart transplant shows the kind of people Penn State has following them.

You want to know what tradition looks like? Head to State.... That's Penn State, not Michigan state people, because the new unis Sparty unveiled at their Spring game are joke. Said he has a lot of respect for Dantonio, but could not fathom how those things got across his desk and were given the "neon green" light. 1 team is allowed highlighter neon green, and that's Oregon. Michigan State, you better win when you wear em, because if you lose it makes an already bad look, look horrid.

He goes back to the standing ovation, says it was heartfelt, one of the reasons the college game is what it is.. the level of class we see from certain fan bases.

"Then there's MIami who booed transfer Qb Tate Martell off the field.... Really? I mean really? .... Some things in college football just never change...."

LIke Nebraska's near 90k sea of red... speaking of seas of red.... Where were the Alabama fans on Saturday?

I listen to Off Campus outside of basketball season. Packer tends to say some good things about the Penn State community. White Out, Thon, etc, but he does not like Franklin and places a lot responsibility for JS on Paterno. He doesn't even listen to arguments on either subject, not unlike most sports media. He's polite, but he tunes callers out. He used to have a weekly spot with Spurrier and the ol' ball coach called him out a few times re: Franklin and particularly Joe.

I listen and Packer is almost bipolar with PSU as JWB mentioned. Hates JF, blames Joe but loves the fans and community.

I've never picked up on the hate for Franklin, but he certainly talked about how much he liked Pat Chambers at the end of the season. There were even a few callers that talked Penn State prior to the B1G ten tourne, and Packer said he would not be surprised if Penn State won the thing. Said many times during that last week that the one team in the country he would not want to play right now was Penn State. At first I called BS... but I listened pretty much every day prior, and he mentioned Penn State at least once.

Best part of his show is the way he handles the vast range of people that call in.

He often brings up the icing of the GA State kicker and the Pitt = Akron comment.

Put a microphone in front of someone and they are an expert. I wonder if he ever played and I know he never coached.

Spurrier is a mensch and one of my favorite coaches. I mean anyone who calls Florida State "Free Shoes U" is alright in my book.

He really doesn’t state much of an opinion on anything....he’s pretty wishy washy and talks up both teams in most games so he won’t be wrong. But when it comes to Franklin, he constantly blasts him any chance he gets. He spent days trashing Franklin after icing the kicker and after his comments following the OSU game. For someone who almost never has an opinion, he has a real problem with Franklin for some reason.

I concur. Franklin definitely rubs him the wrong way. It's almost like he goes out of his way to not bash Penn State fans when he's crushing Franklin.

Franklin has plenty of detractors down South; he was not well liked in SEC country; Paul Finebaum who is a big deal in that area doesn't like him.

Packer was more of an ACC guy than SEC, but some of that rubbed off.

Most of the anti-Franklin stuff is jealousy as far as I can tell. He wasn't supposed to win when he was at Vandy, and he wasn't supposed to bring that "disgraced" PSU program back to national prominence so soon, and compete for the best recruits.

On a lighter side about Packer, he had a nice feature called "Southern Fried Football" where he tailgated at various places in the Southeast. Had an eye for the local talent.

If I recall, Packer is a Clemson alum.

Good on Franklin. Joe had the same - driven by jealousy and the fact that Joe’s Teams kicked a$$. Hopefully CjF can revive that tradition!

Correct

He does not hate JF for the record. He hated his good to great to elite or whatever that was....
And he hated his supposed icing the kicker, and he hated his comment about Pitt is the same as Akron, and he hated his dominate the state comment, and on and on and on. Franklin’s about the only thing Packer has an actual opinion on week after week, other than his love affair with Dabo.

I like Chris Childers and Neuheisel on that channel.

But Packer is really a joke.

I've never heard anyone talk so much in so many cliches and say nothing.

He simply guffaws with whatever joker is calling in...

"That teams got a bunch of frisbee catching dogs"
"They just dont plain like each other"
"Well, when the big boys are playing"
