Anyone watching the XFL? First impressions?

I don't know if the XFL or USFL will make it but I seriously doubt that they both survive.

History shows neither will make it.
The XFL got a 5 year contract from ESPN. That sounds pretty good but I wonder about the terms. What they pay might depend on how much they collect from advertisers.

The XFL has The Rock as a promoter. They also have former Bills GM Russ Brandon who has lots of experience with this type of thing.

I feel like part of the problem is no one takes an 8 team league seriously. I don't think FBS has a conference that small. If anyone ever wants a league to truly work, in any sport, they have to we willing to bleed money for years and go big. The USFL in the 80s was the only one that's had a chance in decades.

Also when you have 8 teams and almost half are in Texas you won't get a national audience. The only team close to the northeast I believe is DC. Gotta do better than that.

But my guess is people still won’t care.

It's football
Nobody cares about the minor leagues (ie 2nd tier competition). This will not make it. The arena league offered something a little different. The XFL is the NFL with less talented players making a WNBA salary.

But even ESPN can’t make people care about something they have little interest in…see the WNBA.
I understand that. Like I said ESPN paid for exclusive rights for 5 years but I have no idea how much or if it's guaranteed.
