All Alabama had to do was not lose to a 6-6 Vanderbilt team or not look bad losing to an equally bad Oklahoma. The committee probably would have overlooked one dog loss, but not two. If someone wants to make the case that SMU doesn't have any "signature wins," that's fine - it's true. They also don't have two dog loses; Alabama does.

It’s a rare treat. The Committee treats us far better than our own conference. Hopefully we pay them back for their trust in us 😉
On the one hand, we have two teams that legitimately aren't among the best 10-15 teams in the country in our first few games. So that's good.
On the other, doesn't really give James the opportunity to get the "big game" monkey off his back until Georgia. That Georgia game (assuming Beck gets healthy and UGA beats ND/Indiana) becomes the biggest in James' career.
