Football Penn State to face No. 11 SMU in first round of College Football Playoffs

Kind of amusing what the Committee did here with 11/12 and 5/6 seeds imho. They gave Texas the 5 seed, but stuck them with the ACC Champion (i.e., SMU should have clearly been the 12-seed without a Conference Chapionship). IOW, they gave PSU the 6-seed, but the 5-seed matchup (I'd way rather play SMU than Clemson. SMU played nobody outside of Clemson and BYU and they lost to both for Pete's sake). No way the Committee should put the ACC Champion behind the 2nd place ACC team imho. But apparently they left SMU 12th and put Clemson 13th in CFP Rankings so they could leave Alabama unchanged at #11 in CFP Rankings, but still be the first team left out of Playoff (Clemson knocks them out as the 5th Highest Ranked Conference Champion) - the only way they could have put Clemson @ #11 and SMU #12 outright in CFP Rankings would be to move Alabama down 2 spots from last week to #13. They didn't want to justify this.... so they went this route, but it is interesting that they gave PSU the 5/12 matchup against the #2 ACC team (they gave Texas the #5 seed, but the 6/11 matchup with the ACC Champion Clemson.).

Or Clemson's resume isn't as good as SMU?
I think this is a reach but regardless it worked out great

Lmao you don't represent anyone on this board. You might be hated even more than loado 😂
I’ll wager you can’t stop posting about or to Lando. If you can, I’ll give you a cookie (it can even be meth + coke flavored, which appears to be your favorite), if you can’t, you have to take down all your “I love/hate Lando” posters from the wall … all 1,500 of them.

Do we have a bet?

Nice consolation prize, even though I’m still freaking pissed from last night for a variety of reasons, from the awful officiating to Franklin not being able to calm the players in the first half to keep them out of boneheaded penalties. I don’t know about you guys but last night stings worse for me than any recent loss in recent memory because I truly think we win that game six out of every 10 times.

One nice thing not being talked about that much: A win puts us in the Fiesta Bowl. That's a reward.

Huge incentives to perform in the next game. This team needs to prepare and keep their heads in line.

Franklin and company need to watch tape on what worked and what did not work in the Oregon game. On defense that may mean moving Carter to linebacker for quite a few plays. On offense it means not throwing the game away with low percentage passes. We have RBs and TEs that are tough for opposing defenses to handle. Use them creatively, but without gimmicks.

There is zero pressure on Penn State. Want pressure? Try Columbus Ohio right about now.

Without Gimmicks?
That’s crazy talk

I'd be very surprised if any of the home teams lost in the first round. Tennessee has the best shot if Ohio State hasn't gotten over the Michigan lost. ND and Penn State should win easily. Texas should destroy Clemson like Georgia did.

Penn State and Texas really do have the best odds to reach the semis.

The game will be on TNT... let the bitching begin.

TNT owns the CFP Contract (along with ABC/ESPN). The Texas v Clemson game is also on TNT. This has zero to do with BTN, or the Conference relegating us to their 3rd Tier programming. Really no different than TBS winning a portion of MLB Postseason Playoffs Contract.

It's more than ironic that as a team that has nothing but haters both in and out of our conference, the only one group that matters, shows us nothing but love

I don't know if it's showing us love as much as the inherent flaw in the seeding process. Let's be honest. If you're virtually anybody other than Penn State right now, you look at these seedings and ask WTF.

It's clear the committee doesn't want to punish for losing a conference title game, and the committee didn't really value head-to-head as much as overall record. We got the nod over Ohio State. SMU got seeded higher than Clemson. We both lost those head-to-heads. But we had better records (and in both cases, unbalanced scheduling certainly aided that, but both OSU and Clemson had a loss that wasn't great).

Again, we'll take it. But we benefited from a bit of an odd construct.

No one is like Oregon. The picked the best year to be loaded
They have a very mobile quarterback and three very good wide receivers plus a running game. On top of that the front floor is really good. I never said they were as good as Oregon. I said that they have a similar style of organ

Tennessee may prove me wrong. but I still think Ohio State is one of the 3-4 best teams in the country. Michigan is in tOSU's head as much tOSU is in Penn State's. Unless UT shows up wearing maize and blue, I expect a Suckeye win. I agree with you on Texas; the nightmare scenario for them would be making the finals and seeing UGA on the other sideline.

Ehh......yes, it hurt.

But the loss gave us an easier road to the semifinals than a win would have.

Oregon has a tougher road than we do. Bizarro world in seeding.

SMU like Oregn has lots of speed @ their skill positions..

.....and they won't be playing indoors, under perfect conditions on astroturf.... You're nuts if you think PSU doesn't have as much team speed as SMU.

Home-field Advantage is massive here for PSU. As is not having the game officiated by corrupt, heavily-biased b2g hack clowns.

They won't be playing with corrupt b2g hack clown Officials.... look for duhO$U to be heavily penalized for holding and DPI along patchwork OL and Defensive Secondary.

This may be the norm in this format.

I get the sense that this will change in the years ahead.

Again, I'll gladly take it this year. But reading comments on non-PSU CFB boards, the whole country seems to think we and Texas both got obscene gifts, particularly since neither of us have any big wins. When Penn State and Texas get better draws than Oregon and UGA, something is off.

I just hope.. and this might be a crazy thought.. that we we fill the stadium 12/21… we will not have our typical student section there.. which is always a huge advantage…so assume many locals…?
