There are arguments between PSU Fans on whether PSU should make the playoffs if they win the Big 10. Now it's a National conversation, with analysts throwing in their opinions.

Lets stop arguing and appreciate the privilege we get to even argue about this and be part of the conversation. Congrats to James Franklin, his staff, and the players for giving us fans this privilege. I love my fellow PSU brethren and any argument is all love. Let's treat it like arguing between with your best friends or sibling.

I was just thinking of something similar this morning. I was thinking if at the beginning of the season PSU had a choice of the CFP or Rose Bowl or Outback Bowl would PSU fans be happy and take that? HELL YES!!! This team is 1 year ahead of when I thought they would be able to make a run. So I am enjoying every minute of PSU being in the CFP discussion or a New Years Day Bowl! So many people left PSU behind as road kill and predicted the death of the football program. Knowing they are eating crow or pissed off that PSU is back in the National Title discussion this quickly, warms my heart everyday. I am just enjoying the talk of bowls and playoffs. Been awhile and many have weathered a long bumpy storm. Feels good doesn't it?

I woke up my wife Saturday night after the Iowa win and told her, it feels like 2005. It has been a long time since I saw a very promising future with this program. Keep recruiting at a high level and try to retain the assistant coaches as much as possible.

Unfortunately, my life has taught me that tomorrow is promised to no one. I didn't know if I would ever see PSU in the top 10 again. I am concerned that The Administration needs to move quickly to retain this staff. Don't be deceived, LSU, Texas, perhaps ND and others will be waiving boatloads of cash under JF's chin after the season.

Completely agree. I am very happy for the players, staff and all involved in the program. It is nice to see that the hard work is paying off.

If the team wins its final two games, the bottom line will be that they will be playing somewhere great for a bowl.

Thanks for this thread. All the talk (and yes, the sportswriters are stirring it up) about bowls and playoffs just spoils the fun.

I am simply looking forward to the Rutgers game and hoping Penn State plays well. That's enough for me right now.

This season has been one of great joy watching this young team grow up, watching all these young players turn into really good football players. Hopefully next season will be more of the same.

If Penn State gets to 10-2, that is so far above expectations, it almost doesn't matter where the play the bowl game.

From the hot seat to the catbird seat.:p

I honestly think his heart is here, but he and his staff have families to think about- PSU needs to make sure they feel appreciated where they are- in every way, including compensation.

I agree that JF's heart is here. But folks letting you know how much you are wanted and needed......and backing that up with mega millions can turn heads. I think PSU should step up early on and show the whole staff how much they are respected and needed here. After all is said and done, this is a business.

How did that go over? Waking up your wife to talk about college football?

He already is one of the highest paid coaches in all of College Football. I think he's earned a nice extension. Maybe the assistants could use a raise? I don't really know how competitive their pay is.

One thing I haven't heard about recently is the Stadium Expansion. That was supposed to be released already. That is only going to help recruiting and satisfy the fans. These coaches have really built something from the ground up and it will only get better. I'm not saying there wasn't a great foundation already, but I"m sure you guys know what I mean. If they go somewhere else, there will probably be pressures to do that again. I'm sure they know a good foundation when they see it.

There are many forms of compensation. Stepping up to keep the coordinators would go a long way toward making JF feel "appreciated." Think of the progress that can be made with extra bowl practices and a spring without a new system to learn for a change. This team could use some continuity. Clearly an extension is in order or JF.

I thought the plan was to contract the capacity by removing the bleachers and putting in seats?

Whatever amount of money anyone wants to throw at him we know PSU has as much if not more.

He doesn't strike me as the type that's going to walk away from what he started here and start anew elsewhere. He'd be an idiot to do that now.

OBrien was the EMT that performed CPR on PSU during its ambulance ride to the hospital, Franklin was the surgeon that saved its life.

I tend to think you are correct. However, JF is still pretty young and has a resume of rebuilding (quickly) two programs one in the SEC and the other in the Big 10. When the season ends and the beauty contest begins.....he has a unique resume. Often it's someone who was a DC or OC possibly someone who has had success in the Mountain West. He will be pursued.

No one can stop _______University from "pursuing" CJF

Just like no one (without a court order :) ) can stop me from "pursuing" Gwen Stefani

Me and _______University have about the same odds of a successful pursuit.....unfortunately (for me).

Sandy Barbour mentioned that on the Nitwits. She also mentioned the formal plan would be released in late October early November. The plan will have the actual details of the Stadium Renovations.

I have a sense and hope you are right. However, no one likes to be taken for granted. Also, it is imperative to make a concerted effort to keep the coordinators.

Your pursuit might be closer than you realize. Gwen will probably be in State College next summer (albeit with Blake Shelton!).

You say that as if there is ANY possibility that:

I was not already aware of it
And
I had not already submitted my application to escort Ms Stefani during her (I hope) visit to our happy little valley

:)

I hear ya'.......but I don't know anyone who feels they are being "taken for granted" at $5 million +\- per annum. :)

Zero chance Franklin leaves. That guy isn't going anywhere. He left more money on the table at Vandy. He's staying. The playbook at this point is for him to get his successful assistants paid so they're retained, and leverage continued success into a mega deal after next season.

Pretty close to zero chance Moorhead leaves after this season. He's just getting started. Another few seasons of this will make him a candidate for some big time power 5 head coaching jobs. He has an excellent sophomore quarterback, a full stable of thoroughbreds at running back and wide receiver, and about five young linemen with as much promise as any in the country. He would be insane to walk. Caveat: After Pinocchio Pat quits on Pitt, they might be able to make him think about it. Home is home.

Pry seems most likely to bail, though only for a HC opportunity at this point. He has already interviewed at Georgia Southern, right? It's unclear how far he would level down to be the hmfic.

The latter two will likely get the raises they've earned and ride along for at least another year. I'll worry once they start getting serious power five interviews.

Many PSU fans wanted what we have now 2-3 years ago. A tweaked coaching staff with Big experience and players, though most weren't 4 & 5 **, played their hearts out.
Where ever this team ends up this year, as a fan i'm very Penn State proud.Because the press, and idiots from all other fan bases gave Penn State a lot of crap the last 5 years.

I think they will both get serious looks for HC jobs this year. I'm hopeful both will stay, but they are both going to be hot commodities.
