Auburn prediction

38 ~ 28. Good guys.

auburn has a good offense but has never seen a defense like this.
I haven’t reviewed them in detail but their QB Nix was a huge five star that didn’t play well last year (like SC, has a good first year and stalled last year) their soph RB was freshman of the year last year. They have two all SEC linebackers. Talent all over the field.

but they have a new coach, new staff, and a completely new system as the HC coached boise state last year.

they’ve played two cupcakes and not in front of a white out. Not a lot of good film stuff. Should be a good game

Auburn has outscored their first two opponents 122-10. They may be the greatest college football team ever assembled.

I do not want to even think this.....but a win over Auburn would have to move PSU to number 1 in the country.

Wisconsin held EMU to under 100 yards. We beat a good team last week. AU played Alabama State who had to go to overtime to beat 1,500 student Miles College. They also played Akron, who lost to Temple by 21. Recall Rutgers beat Temple by 47. We have absolutely zero reading on Auburn at this point.

I’ll take the tested team in this one.
Lions 26, Tigers 20 (Oh my!)

Yeah Temple put up 45 on Akron after Rutgers torched them.

I’m thinking more defense, PSU
24 - 17, a turnover being the difference.

Highest ranked non conference team to visit The Beav in 10 years (?).

I am cautiously optimistic

PSU - 28
Auburn -17
Doesn't matter who the opponents were, any team that scores 60+ points a game will be a test for our defense. Auburn has the best running back we will see all year. Their QB is almost a carbon copy of Sean Clifford. He can be very good at times and a turnover machine at other times.

It is the oldest cliche in football, but when two teams of similar talent line up, the outcome will be determined by turnovers. I am 99% sure if we are +2 in to's, we win and if we are -2, we will lose.

I think it's going to low scoring. Auburn's D will be tough to move the ball against, but we'll get enough big plays to get the W.
17-13 PSU

The one thing that will be overblown is the effect of the whiteout crowd on Auburn. I think it will have very little effect if at all considering they play in hostile environments in the SEC all the time
I mean OSU plays in hostile environments all of the time too, and we almost always play them tough in a whiteout. Even if the crowd noise isn’t much of a factor, I think PSU players, particularly under Franklin, tend to really show up for night whiteout games

No doubt it will have an effect. Meat chicken has been in several Whiteouts yet had to call a time out before the very first play in 2019! And I expect this one to be the loudest ever. Just showing our version of Southern hospitality!🤣

We beat team A, which lost to team B. That means we will beat them B.
Thank goodness life is not that simple.

How do the matchups look?

Auburn has the best secondary we will play this year. Our receivers have, at times, been erased in single coverage for very average to below average corners in both games. Poorly handled transitions were Wisconsin's undoing in the opener. Unforced errors on Wisconsin's park gave us the majority of our yardage and both TDs.

I don't like this matchup.

Auburn's front seven was solid last year. They have a couple of new faces but have kept the defense largely unchanged from last season despite the new coaching staff. They won't play as well as Wisconsin's did but will be way better than Ball State. The biggest factor is how comfortable the O-line is with the gab blocking scheme. They weren't at Wisconsin but were able to control Ball State.

I call this one a toss up.

Clifford has proved he can play at a high level against a quality opponent. In 2019 he provided Penn State with it best single season at the position since DC graduated after the 09 season. He can play. He isn't as good as DC (who he compares most favorably) but he is considerably better than his predecessor as a passer. I suspect MY will continue to play it safe.

I think play calling more than QB play will be a problem.

I will be watching yesterday's Auburn game this evening to see how the defense fares.

I view this game similar to Wisconsin. Low scoring, defensive struggle. Been a couple others already this season (A&M/Colorado yesterday), is defense all the rage again?

Auburn has not been tested yet, at all, but they have been impressive. Not sure about yesterday, but they didn't throttle their opponent until the 3rd quarter.

Yurcich opened up the playbook yesterday, giving Auburn plenty of looks to scheme against. Window dressing or potential game plan?

Somebody else mentioned it.

They have a good back who could be great. Nix is their version of SC, except I think he was hyped a little more.

Can we run on them? I think opportunity will be there as I don't think they run blitz near as much as Wisconsin did, but they could surprise me.

Curious about the spread as well. Anybody seen one yet?

I think all the FG work with Stout is going to be needed. This feels like a 23-19 type game.

How can we say they have been impressive? It's just impossible to say. The 2000 PSU team, one of the worst of all time, beat Louisiana Tech 67-7. When a P5 team plays a tomato can they are going to run up the score, because they just aren't capable of hanging with them.

The big ? is whether we can run the ball. So far the answer is not really

And if they had just scored 30 people would be ragging on them.

It's impressive for who they played and it's the only two data points we have. What else can we use to analyze the game?

It’s not just the negative impact the white out has on the opponent, but the positive impact it has on our team.

First line I've seen so far, on teamrankings.com, has PSU -7. Seems a bit high to me, although I do think the white out advantage is significant.

I think this game will fall on the defense. I expect the offense to score enough to win.

PSU is back to using the back of the end zone as the 12th man on defense - where you want the opponent 1st and goal at the 9.

30-24. Becuase i like the 6 point spread, think we can score, and am pretty sure their offense will be better than wisky. I just want to win.

This game scares me. The new Auburn coach spent years coaching Boise State and had a high power, creative offense. This year Auburn has been racking up scores against cupcakes and will surprise a bunch of teams. It will be a challenge to our defense so the offense has to control the ball.

Well PSU has a pretty good coach leading their offense so there’s that.

Strongly disagree. The only SEC stadium that might be close in terms of noise is LSU.
Not sure how many SEC venues you've attended but I can promise you when PSU comes to Jordan Hare next year it will be every bit as loud as anywhere Penn State has played. Same with the Swamp, Death Valley, etc.

I'm sure it will be very loud and I'm expecting a great game. Can't wait for Saturday. War Eagle.

It will be LOUD. Like really really LOUD. Auburn makes mistakes. Good guys 28, Bama wannabes 10

We have a better winning percentage against Alabama than every team in the country except Texas and Notre Dame. If we're their wannabes, WTH does that make the rest of yall?
