Auburn prediction

Well, a pretty pedestrian NW team handled them relatively easily (35-19) last year in their bowl game (they ended up 6-5). That seems at least marginally relevant imho.

I’m just funnin brother. Cant wait for youins to come to the Plains next year. It’s a special place.
When's the last time y'all traveled out of state OOC for a non-neutral site game? Just curious. Can't figure it out. Alexa don't know.

38 ~ 28. Good guys.

auburn has a good offense but has never seen a defense like this.
I haven’t reviewed them in detail but their QB Nix was a huge five star that didn’t play well last year (like SC, has a good first year and stalled last year) their soph RB was freshman of the year last year. They have two all SEC linebackers. Talent all over the field.

but they have a new coach, new staff, and a completely new system as the HC coached boise state last year.

they’ve played two cupcakes and not in front of a white out. Not a lot of good film stuff. Should be a good game
“Has never seen a defense like this.” You mean this year or in general? If you mean this year, well that’s pretty obvious. If you mean in general, Penn St ain’t coming close to Alabama or Georgia defenses

Not sure how many SEC venues you've attended but I can promise you when PSU comes to Jordan Hare next year it will be every bit as loud as anywhere Penn State has played. Same with the Swamp, Death Valley, etc.

I'm sure it will be very loud and I'm expecting a great game. Can't wait for Saturday. War Eagle.
I've been to Bama and the Swamp. Neither was impressive.

While I'm sure Jordan Hare (obviously a Space Jam reference) is loud, it won't be as loud as other places PSU has played.

I wish I had y’all’s confidence. Having had the “opportunity” to live in the south for the last 43 years gives me an advantage in these matters. Anyone south of Virginny can tell ya that SEC schools have so much greater speed than dem damn yankee teams, it won’t even be a contest. Not much noise from the ACC crowd down here in Norf Carolina thus far.🤔
That said, I‘m hoping for a huge Lion win, but will be placing a small wager on the opponent with the points (which are dropping by the day), to take the sting out of any possible upset.

We have a better winning percentage against Alabama than every team in the country except Texas and Notre Dame. If we're their wannabes, WTH does that make the rest of yall?
Sensitive are we?

Should be a good game but we've heard the War Eagle, southern speed, SEC talk before. Plus, the opposing QB was named Nix.

I have a work colleague who is an SEC’er. Very knowledgeable college football guy. Actually a Georgia fan but knows all the teams well.

His take is “yes Nix has been suspect but doing much better. Most folks in the SEC felt Malzahn was the problem down there and what was holding that team back.“ And yes athletes all over the field. Wisconsin was good but this will be our first taste of speed. Not saying that we aren’t fast just saying our schedule hasnt show us fast yet. Perhaps we are ready. That will be the first thing that I look for. Their d line may be a problem for us.

I’m more concerned now than I was a few days ago. I think this is one our D may have to win it with a score or at least give the offense some short fields.
The one thing that will be overblown is the effect of the whiteout crowd on Auburn. I think it will have very little effect if at all considering they play in hostile environments in the SEC all the time
check their record in those environments per @Lion Son/Husband/Father

Agreed. The good news is that Auburn has played NOBODY and is not tested. I was hoping to see a better run game against Ball St as I think that is the key to beating Auburn when we are on offense. On D, we'll have to stop the run and put pressure on Nix to win the game. Auburn's WR are highly touted but inexperienced. Our second and third-level defense has been awesome.

We need to apply pressure as this is a totally new staff and, again, they've only played practice games against very bad teams. A road game, massive white out, national TV and an opponent that can do so in every phase of the game will be a challenge for Auburn.

Honestly don’t think the White Out will matter. It’s a gimmick deal IMO. Auburn plays in the best league. Game is played on the field. I’m more worried about our OL tbh… I see a low scoring game. I see a 3 point game.
gimmick? LOL.

OK, first road game against a quality opponent on national tv. The SEC is awesome but these kids haven't played in this kind of meaningful game in quite a while.

Anxious for your after action review of the 'gimmick' after seeing in person. Have fun.

We’re screwed. Our players are slow. Our fans cheer slow. We’re just a northern, slow b1g school. We’re no match for that speed from alabamy. They play in front of the loudest fans on the planet every week. We’re done.

I hate us.

My Georgia friend told me, watch the line on Friday when the y'all down South get their paychecks.

Do they have anything left after they buy their moonshine? I don’t think they can use their food stamps for that.

Agree. I was concerned that Wisconsin would overpower our defense so I was pleasantly surprised when they didn't. But PSU had an advantage that Mertz wasn't much of a threat to leave the pocket. They never spread the PSU defense out. Auburn probably has better athletes which will be a new challenge for PSU.

PSU couldn't run the ball against Wisconsin and I think they'll have trouble again against Auburn.
It was nice to see Lee pound the ball between the tackles vs Ball State but that won't be so easy this Saturday.

The defense is going to have to hold up and limit Auburn to FGs. The offense is going to have to avoid TOs and get a few big plays. That's what PSU is these days, a big play offense. I don't expect them to grind out many long drives. I think this will be a field position game. I hope it doesn't come down to FG kicking because that has been a problem.

If everything goes as planned...

I have been to almost all of the major White Out games, although I won't be at Auburn. Maybe the color of the crowds shirts are a gimmick but I think he is vastly underestimating the sound. It certainly won't be the thing that win's the game, but I have seen QBs waste timeouts and wilt under the noise. It's really hard to act in unison when you have a deafening roar every time you have the ball.

So a new staff is inheriting a team that was "decent, but not great" from last year, but that isn't relevant to the topic being discussed? Really?

Very relevant.

Recruiting wise, their talent is comparable to us based on the rankings.

An all sec schedule might have been the doom for Malzahn, but the guy was more a victim of Alabama success than anything. He beat Saban more than anybody over the years he was there not named Dabo.

Harsin is a good coach, but he never took Boise as high as his predecessor.

NW didn't fold under the speed. Neither do we.

There are certain college football fans in the north, who have never lived in the south nor know nothing of SEC football except what they've seen on TV. They claim that SEC's reputation is all media hype. Trust me. I believe the BIG plays a good level of football and I believe we have a good chance of beating Auburn. I've lived most of my life in the north and 23 years in the south. Make no mistake about it, it is not just media hype. The SEC is the best top to bottom conference in the country. I believe their record can speak for itself.

You mean like Tennessee losing to Pitt, LSU losing to Chip Kelly? How about Vandy losing to East Tennessee St?

Iowa fan here but looking forward to this game. Every year before bowl season we hear the same arguments about how the B10 is too slow, and most of the time it’s BS and the Hawks win out with defense (Mississippi State, USC, etc.) Not expecting any different here, I’ll take PSU by 10

The SEC has weak schools just like the BiG. Vanderbilt would be an example. Even Tennessee isn't that good anymore. But the schools at the top are the best.

Alabama > OSU
Georgia > PSU
Florida > Mich

Then things start to level out a bit. LSU, Auburn, & A&M are close to Wisconsin, Iowa, & MSU.
