Auburn prediction

Got it, so Lee averaging 8.5 ypc and Ford averaging 5.3 ypc last Saturday doesn't count? Interesting. Lee and Ford together averaged 7.4 ypc gaining 100 yards on 14 carries, but again clearly their runs don't count when analyzing such things. Got it.
It's what Keith Conlin said about the first play against Wisky with Cain being stuffed for a loss. Wisky's DL and LB's stuffed our OL in the running game. Conlin said it looks like the same PSU OL that we have had for the past six years or so; they just can not run block, especially LB's. Sanborn ran all over us and wasn't even touched by an OL. We will be in trouble Saturday if the OL keeps performing like it has in the past.

I am not sold on this OL as a good OL. They appear average. Missing mean streak. Weakest link @ this time on line are LG & RT. If Auburn DL stunts like Wisconson did I hope the OL does much better. For PSU to get the "W" this Saturday, OL must show major improvement.

The only prediction I am making is that Auburn will take a timeout during the first series of the game. Based on the articles I have seen, they have no idea what they are getting into with regard to the whiteout.

Really miss Joe's screen pass ;) we were really good at running those and we called them at the best moments too!

They will BLITZ the $#!! out of us cuz well we arent good at picking up those and we really dont have a good counter play at least that I have seen..I do think (really HOPE) we held some things back and will have a wrinkle or two this game.
Isn't this what Yurcich's job is? I have confidence he will come up with some wrinkles.

Auburn fan here. I think whoever wins will be whoever’s O line shows up. Our’s is complete trash, but the defense is stout

ours has been doing the job. Not great, but we played one of the better defensive teams in the nation at Wisconsin. So this team, Saturday, will have that experience under their belt and playing at home. Turnovers being equal, i like the line at 6.

You'll find many here that same about our offensive line. They have underperformed during Franklin's tenure to be sure.

Penalties, turnovers and special teams play will likely determine the outcome of this game as they do in most games of equally matched teams. I think the winner whoever it is will win by less than 7 which will make it a nail biter right until the end.

Good non biased prediction from Late Kick with Josh Pate. One of my favorites.

Fast forward to the 5 minute mark if you want only the PSU discussion.

FWIW, my Buckeye buddy at the gym tells me he thinks Penn Stare wins in a blowout.
I wish the ones making these predictions would back up their statements with facts that would ease my anticipation going into Sat. evening. Auburn has a good QB, WR's, RB's, and a stout DL, and LB's. And, their recruiting classes 2-3 years ago were good ones that now have these players mature and ready to play.

Which is why my only prediction has been that PSU will need to score 28 to win. This guy knows his football, much more so than me, makes a trip to the ‘Shoe at least once a year. He didn’t go into details other than to say that Auburn isn’t that good. Maybe he was buttering me up, but I’ll take anything that helps me sleep at night.

I have seen 3 or 4 reviews of Auburn by fans and analysts and they are saying the Auburn Oline is bad..... If that is the case... PSU will give Nix some serious issues... Again.. these are Auburn analyst and fans saying this.....

This is the Key---I started to analyze as much as I could as well--Recruiting classes--Ourlads, used this for size/tenure (OL mostly seniors which means they arent that good-or they would have left for NFL) watched both games this season-which doesn't give you much really, last years games (I watched Nix in 2 full games last year) Also, how they did 2 yrs ago vs. LSU. Nix is erratic a can be a head case---he can be rattled. Hope Pry has some better blitz packages this game. I believe we will also try and disguise our coverages more which will help.

Tank is pretty good--think he is the best RB on the field. We need to Wrap!--Brandon Smith did you hear that???

If we can be patient on offense and grind a 3yd avg. on runs with an occasional 5+ here and there we are more than fine. On 3rd and long we need to play conservative where appropriate-and simply Punt and play the field position game. We cant make mistakes i.e. Wisconsin and we will Win...if we go up 10-0 (hoping we get that start) than all game plans for Auburn go out the window and we are definitely in the drives seat.

They also have a new coaching staff who may not have gotten buy in from players recruited by the previous coach. They haven’t had a real game yet. They are on the road in a night whiteout game.

This isn’t Bama or Georgia that Penn State will be facing.

I think Tank is the real deal... big strong running back. He is proven. Nix seems to be good at home and horrible on the road. If the Auburn line is not that great... I think PSU will have success against Tank and getting to Nix. Hitting the QB is huge....PSU was in the Wisky QBs head after hitting him a couple time. He knew PSU was coming. A lot of intense pressure up front and PSU will get it done. Pressure on Nix could lead to some turnovers... fumbles and interceptions .... If the Defense can slow Tank....and get to Nix... PSU has a shot.

On Offense... I think MY will dissect these guys and find the mismatch.... Having some long drives with mix of short pass and run will lead to good thing...SCORE TD... forget the FG. If we can establish some drives ...... a couple big plays to Washington will be huge.. I think they smother Dotson all game... The TE could be a factor....

Tank is an absolute stud. Cain is good, his recruitment actually came down to Auburn and Penn St if y’all recall, but Tank will hands down be the best RB on the field. Will he have the most yards? Not necessarily because I don’t trust our O line against Penn St. But one things for sure, Tank isn’t coming down with arm tackles

DL is actually the weak link of the defense. LB corp is a group of studs (Pappoe is a speed freak) and the secondary, lead by McCreary, is very talented with crazy depth. Wooden at DE will play on Sundays. Opposite of him you have Derrick Hall who can get to the QB, but all of our DT’s / NT’s are either transfers in or very young.

Will you guys play straight up or do you foresee a bunch of blitzing early?

I’m not worried about their Oline, I’m worried about their DLine.

I thought he came off as a biased uneducated talking head.

He thinks PSU is going to try to ground and pound Auburn. LOL.

But I like his pick.
Agreed. PSU will probe in a balanced manner but I expect us to use a lot of WR screens and a couple of big play/deep balls. I think we'll see our offense like Wisconsin in the second half.

I don’t think we’ll blitz early, no. The DL has looked like a group of monsters so far against obviously weak O lines. Given the receivers on Penn St, I think Derek will keep his LBs back for underneath coverage on crossing routes and get a glimpse of what the DL can do on their own against a more talented team. If the DL fails, expect Pappoe and McLain to start blitzing

That's a pretty confident statement based on one year. It will be interesting to hear your opinion after the game.

Not really. He’s nationally regarded as one of the best overall and certainly the best in the SEC. If it’s a confident statement by me, then it’s also a confident statement by most sports analysts. He’s that good

Since Chris Fowler touted the front seven of Auburn as physical and nasty and commented that our OL has to hold up against their rush. They have 8 sacks against lesser opponents so far this year, but impressive none the less. Another poster stated that Auburn's DL was not that good after I mentioned that I believed they were stout, as they have been through the years. Comments please as to their DL......

Their defense is as good as Wisconsin's and will be a test. The keys to the game will be:
  • no turnovers, use the momentum
  • Stop the Run
  • Put pressure on Nix
I have a gut feeling that our offense is going to show some new wrinkles Saturday night.

And, our OL has to learn to run block during the next 2 days!
