Baby Name Suggestions

It's a common name but could go with something from Mary White whom the building was named in honor of or Marie Haidt who made the White building happen. Wouldn't necessarily scream Penn State, but would have meaning behind it. A brief history from an old DC article:

"As a professor of physical education and hygiene in the 1920s and 1930s, Haidt worked to find a place where women could socialize apart from men, who dominated the University at the time. Rec Hall was originally reserved for men only, which left women without a place to exercise or just relax.

"Haidt had a special feeling for the women who had no place to go," said Lucas, whose 90-page booklet, "Every Woman's Club House: The Original Penn State University Mary Beaver White Recreational Hall," describes Haidt and her efforts. A copy of the work is available in Pattee.

Haidt found the money she needed in a fund donated by Mary Beaver White, sister of former Pennsylvania governor James Beaver and wife of John White, a University minister in the late 1800s. White donated the money specifically for use by women; and in 1938 White Building was dedicated for use exclusively by women."

Looking for girl names with some sort of reference or connection to Penn State.

Hold off on Sandy...That's not happening!
If I was going to do it I might go with Nittisha. I eliminated Beaver. 😊
That said, don't do it. Your daughter may love the Penn State reference or, for any number of reasons, she may come to hate it.

Had a student with a unique and pretty name (if a name can be pretty, but that’s what the other teachers said it was).
Aimeth
Pronounced I meth.
Side story.
when naming our son, my wife would throw out names. I’d think of former students with that name and give a 👍🏻 or a 👎🏻.
It worked out.

Interesting. I never considered naming one of my kids after methamphetamine, but differences are what makes the world go round.

This works. My first year a student named Michael threatened to stab me. Of course administration sent him right back to sit in class to stare at me. A few years later, I saw Michael’s name had made the paper...you guessed it attempted murder by stabbing someone.

Jordan (for Bryce Jordan)
Ellen (for Ellen Cross, first woman to enroll at Penn State)
Rachel or Rebecca (named for the first woman, last name of Ewing, who actually graduated from Penn State - there is conflicting information I found for this so providing them both).

I've played a lot of chess in my time, and even won a few minor tournaments. I thought this was one of the best chess-themed movies I have ever watched.

A few minor nits -- grandmaster chess is not usually played so briskly, but I'm thinking they didn't want to bore the audience with lengthy times between moves. I also question the pieces, since they don't look like standard Staunton chess pieces, but what the heck Gary Kasparov was a consultant for the series, so it's pretty darned accurate.

I loved the acting. They couldn't have picked better characters for some of the roles.
Joe....it works for a girl....
Josephine is a bit antiquated, but nice! Nicknames can be Jo, Josie, etc. We made that our daughter's second middle, primarily because everyone else in the family has a "J" name and we didn't want her to feel left out lol (as otherwise she'd have no "J" at all!). And (shhh!) a slight tip of the hat to a guy that really elevated PSU as a university through sport. 😁

Your wife/woman is a trooper if she's on board with choosing a Penn State reference name. My wife would veto that concept with a quickness so I'm impressed!
