I’m fine with how they spent the money….im just saying that we don’t have that much for football so what would be possibly do about basketball?Would you rather have had most of our proven players leave in exchange for replacing them with mostly unproven portal players? PSU is one of the favorites to win the National Championship; they must be doing something right.
I would expect that after next season, PSU probably will bring in twice the number of portal players than after last season, which may or may not be a good thing. Also, PSU definitely isn’t finished in the portal for this upcoming season, and the money will be there.
I read that we’re 25th, so not in the top 15.I think we have a lot of NIL for football. Probably top 15 in the country. A lot of schools would like to be in PSU's position.
That said, there's a big difference between top 15 money and top 5 money like OSU, Oregon, Texas, etc
I don't think we'll ever understand what happened to KLS. He must have returned for spring expecting a starting role but the staff wouldn't give it to him. Or maybe the coaches didn't like his attitude. Or maybe he expected more NIL. Who knows, but something must have happened in the spring or he would have entered the portal in the fall.I’m not expecting to get starters in the spring, but the staff needs to add experienced depth at several positions, like d tackle, middle linebacker and a defensive back or two. Remember, Auburn got a starting receiver last spring when Lambert-Smith left PSU, so they’re will be productive players available after spring practice.
Where did you read that?I read that we’re 25th, so not in the top 15.
Add STORRS, CONNECTICUT to that list.Yeah, the last time that I looked, Ames, Iowa, Champaign-Urbana, Tuscaloosa, Starkville, MS, Gainesville, Spokane, etc., etc., aren’t in major urban areas, but all of those areas have top 20 basketball programs right now. In fact, PSU is closer to more basketball hotbeds than all of those places put together.
I don't think that's just NIL. It's total donations to the university. In PSU's case they show $386 million. That has to include things like donations for the stadium renovations. They have Oregon just shy of $1 billion.247 Sports.
Either way, my point is with limited NIL (compared to the big boys) where are we going to get money for basketball? A coach can only do so much, so changing coaches every three years feels like a fool’s errand.I don't think that's just NIL. It's total donations to the university. If the players appeared like they were working hard and had the fundamentals, I would say give him another year. Unfortunately, they appear to be undisciplined and do not play hard for coach. He needs to go.Either way, my point is with limited NIL (compared to the big boys) where are we going to get money for basketball? True. It’s one thing to play hard and have a bad game or just lose to a better team. That’s life, but too see a lack of effort, lack of fundamentals, no discipline, etc then it looks like the coach has lost the team.If the players appeared like they were working hard and had the fundamentals, I would say give him another year. I had so much hope for him. It’s too bad as he came in with such promise. As a student I went to a number of games back in the mid to late 90s, which were enjoyable because the team had a lot of good energy and played hard. This team had no energy or commitment at all, regardless of injuries.True. It’s one thing to play hard and have a bad game or just lose to a batter team. I think we ARE one of the big boys (top 15) but we're not one of the biggest of the big (top 5).Either way, my point is with limited NIL (compared to the big boys) where are we going to get money for basketball? We’re not one of the big boys in basketball. We could bring in John Calipari and without more NIL money, we aren’t getting a top 3 recruiting class.I think we ARE one of the big boys (top 15) but we're not one of the biggest of the big (top 5).
I agree that it will be difficult for any coach with $12 million of NIL to consistently overcome a team with $20 million of NIL. Maybe once every 4-5 years if the $20 million dollar team is rebuilding and the $12 million team has a lot of seniors returning.
Sometimes being overmatched makes it look like a lack of effort. Their whole game plan revolves around Baldwin and if he’s not 100%, the game plan falls apart. Had everyone stayed healthy, I don’t think it would look like they aren’t working hard or they’re undisciplined. If the players appeared like they were working hard and had the fundamentals, I would say give him another year. Agree, but we still have more NIL than most. We just spend it on football. Purdue probably spends it on basketball. We’re not one of the big boys in basketball. We could bring in John Calipari and without more NIL money, we aren’t getting a top 3 recruiting class.
