Bat signal out NJ to Pa. who?

I consider DT's to be like pitching in baseball...you can never have enough of them...especially if they are good!

The rules are different now, Mary. My point is, he committed and signed today. I doubt they would take him if any clearinghouse issues were unresolved.
The other poster is trolling in multiple posts, about academic issues.

The other poster has earned ignore status. Life is good. Take out the trash.

Kid has offers from BC, Cal, Wake Forest and Michigan. Some pretty strong academic institutions. Not generally the profile of a kid with major academic issues.

They signed Tyrell Chavis didn't they? His academic situation went to the wire.

Somewhat different kettle of fish. PSU had direct control over the Chavis situation. With a kid coming out of HS you have to deal with the NCAA Eligibility Center which is akin to entering the twilight zone.

All schools have different standards when it come to athletes. In the cases of Cal and Wake, they very widely from their norms.

If there are issues, which I have no clue that there are or are not, then the staff is comfortable with them. I wouldn't want to start recruiting low character and academically unmotivated guys across the board, but I'm all for giving a guy a chance to rise above his challenges. Sometimes football and a scholarship can be that motivation for a guy to put the extra effort in.

A decade ago, we took a guy named J.B. Walton, who was an academic risk. He never saw the field and did have struggles in the classroom, but because PSU took him and valued academics, he was diagnosed with dyslexia. Ultimately, he transferred but he was left in a better position because someone took a chance. If he hadn't been a football prospect, he may never have got the academic support he deserved. So count me as okay with PSU taking a chance, because we know that they will support him and not just keep him eligible to use him.

I may need further explanation. My understanding was that Chavis needed to pass some classes at Nassau CC last summer before being cleared to enroll at PSU. Maybe different that then NCAA clearinghouse, but the point being that PSU signed him prior to knowing if everything was in order academically.

A junior college transfer needs to have a sufficient number of credits, 48 in Chavis's case, to transfer over. That determination is made entirely by PSU. If he's short, PSU simply tells him to take specific classes and if he gets the required grades, he's in.

NCAA Eligibility Center is frequently unfathomable. Coaches may think in February they have a player who will be academically eligible, only to be informed in August that he's not.

Regardless of the circumstances, virtually every HS kid signed in February has work to do before he his academic credentials are in order.

I opened this thread hoping for a bunch of happy thoughts. Instead I find one more to add to my ever-growing Ignore list.

Still a win.....

In seeing some of the useless banter yesterday I checked and to my surprise I have 35 "adults" on ignore..... But it makes this board so much more even tempered and mature!!!

We beat out Alabama, Michigan, and Tennessee for Corey Bolds. Spectacular end to a great recruiting season. Welcome to Penn State Corey Bolds.

I love the pick up, but I don't believe what you are saying at this point. He may have had initial offers from programs such as Bama, but I doubt he had a committable offer over that last weeks, or maybe months. But who cares?

From another comments area, pretty comical:

Corey Bolds has committed to Penn state. Yesterday afternoon, Bolds verbally committed to Rutgers. As I mentioned in the other thread, this decision by Bolds and the PC coaches to screw over Rutgers is going to cause major problems for their school and their relationship with Rutgers going forward. It's still unlikely Bolds qualifies and Ash went out on a limb to take Bolds so he is not going to be happy about this situatuon

If Ash wants to win he will take kids that can help him win from this school or any other.... Flips are the reality of 2017+ recruiting and the coaches, including Ash, know it.....

Ash isn't in a position where he can be picky regarding who he recruits. In the last week or so he's been taking kids who are basically blocking dummies to fill out his class. Not to worry, though, Rutgersal will make them into All-Americans before the first Fall practice.

Coming, as he did, from OSU, Ash is AT LEAST as familiar as anyone about the reality of flips.

I have more than my share of guys of ignore but only one because of specific posts between the two of us. The rest are on ignore either because I think they're idiots or because they always get in pointless, endless fights with each other.
