Berger's Disappointment @ 157

Didn't know that; thanks! Must be an added burr under Berger's saddle knowing that his skill set declined relative to Nolf .
It's actually kind of interesting that Berger's style has really changed since high school. He was a renowned mat wrestler back then. If I recall correctly, he won that match with a rideout (it was college rules at flonationals so he got a rt point). He was known for his top wrestling, but never became a serious rider in college. You don't see that very often. Usually, the guys who make their money on top in high school, continue to do so in college.

Has Nebraska had any recent kids who were brutal on top?

IDK but Ohio State has had a few who were brutal on bottom.
Yeah, yeah. Seriously though. If brutal on top in high school is the key to a kid's elevation to elite status, choosing to go to a school that doesn't appear to develop elite mat skills seems rather short sighted.

Their heavyweight Jensen makes his money on top. Montoya was a hammer there a few years ago. Studebaker from back in the day at 197 was pretty good there too. Other than that, not much comes to mind.

i know Berger's talk wasn't going to be popular on here (or among psu fans) but he really is a good kid. he shouldn't have talked like that, but man, i give him a mulligan on it. wrestling is such a tough sport, and even tougher if you don't 'believe'.

Let's see how Labriola developes out Nebraska. He was one of the more physical wrestlers to come out of PA in recent years. He went after Hall tough this year.
The 2 toughest big guys to come out District 11 in last 25 years were Christian Luciano and Jon Trenge (Cael's last opponent). I was at a match when Luciano tried to hit flying cement job against Trenge, to this day I don't know how his neck didn't break.
Toughest big men in states I saw were probably Ray Brinzer and Chris Koernick. In a state finals match Koernick wrestled a kid from Northampton by the name of Smith?.He was working arm bars that had Smith screaming, It was brutal, a modern day water boarding.
