Best Summertime Drink

Moosehead beer. The brewery was founded in 1867 and is still privately owned and operated by the Oland family. Unlike Molson, which sold out to Coors, it's Canada's version of Yuengling and it's delicious.

Recently stumbled upon Hi-Wire Tropical Fruit Ale. Very good, but it's 11% abv...so maybe not the best Summer session beer.

I like Porch Rocker and the Shandys..but they tend to go down way too easy.

Pina Colada. All day every day and one taste feels like you’re on vacation.

Michelada in the mornings (close call with a Tequila Sunrise).

Non-alcoholic: fresh lemonade (fresh squeezed lemon juice, water, sugar, ice) - lots of sugar at the bottom with a straw in it

Alcoholic: margaritas made with fresh fruit, not mixes. 2nd -lemoncello from the freezer, 3rd - ice cold beer (don't overthink it)

That's quite the oxymoron, Yuengling and delicious used to describe the same thing.

Do they still make moosehead lime? I bought a case of that and for a party once, and it was a big hit.

Really, I was taught that the only thing to mix with good whisky is water on the rocks or neat.

You are correct, but he is talking about "JD", not "good whisky". JD is for mixing.

As I’m now a fan of mules, what is the best ginger beer to use and where to get it?

Fever Tree Ginger Beer is my go to.
If I cant find that Reeds is pretty good as is the old standby Goslings.
If you want it really spicy try Goya.

I've really "developed" a taste for Mexican Mules, Tequila instead of Vodka.
I've started muddling the Ginger and the lime and adding Club soda. I don't like them as sweet and this works best for me.

Do you mean that instead of ginger beer, you muddle raw ginger and lime? That must have a real kick to it... have you tried tonic instead of club soda?

Tequila and I have a great relationship. We've agreed that if I don't drink it ever again, it won't make me sick. LOL One really bad experience back in the day. The smell, nay just the thought of drinking it makes me nauseous.

I'm not so much of a beer drinker, but I'll certainly never turn one down. I like the various Yuengling products including good old Premium, also Moosehead and Molson and Labatt's.

My usual go-to is a Manhattan or a good bourbon on the rocks. And don't nobody pooh-pooh Jack Daniels'. Good enough for Frank Sinatra, good enough for Fox.

I will say though that my brother has invented some tasty, icy cold refreshments for those hot summer days. Vodka and Fresca. Or all the flavored sparkling waters - add a shot or two of vodka over crushed ice in a tall glass - now that's high living with minimum muss and fuss.

On the rare (very rare) occasions when I have tequila, I have to go through the whole ritual with the salt, the lime, the tabasco. If you're going to drink that stuff, might as well put on a show.

Have you had the JD Sinatra expression? On our Disney Cruise they used it in their version of a Manhattan. I’m not a JD fan but it was really good!

Yea it does have a nice kick. I just add a little Agava nectar to sweeten it a little.
Not a big Tonic fan, Only like it in small doses. So I use either Club soda or Seltzer water.

LOL. thats most people's experience with Tequila from 'back in the day" Let me put it this way Jose Cuervo and Two Fingers is not good.
Trust me try any of the 100% Blue Agave Tequilas.
These are all good for drinking straight or mixing.
Casa Nobel
Milagro
Julio Blanca
Kah

For mixers
same thing make sure its 100% blue agave.
I like.
El Jimador
El Charro
Horrnitos
Sauza
Tre's Generations

I also like these in the Reposado versions.
The Anejo's get to smoky for me.
which brings me to the new craze for Mezcal that is not Monte Albon tried a few and still
think they taste like a smoky bandaid. LOL.

I witnessed a guy once at a party in a full conversation with Jose Cuervo and Frank Zappa. I told my buddy’s now that’s a guy that knows how to party. If Jimmy Hendrix’s shows up I’m bringing a lawn chair outside. And going to enjoy the show.

Everyone seems to love Fever Tree but I highly prefer Cock 'n Bull over it. Unfortunately a lot of my local stores seem to be getting rid of it, while Fever Tree is everywhere. Most recently I tried Gosling and liked it. Stay away from Stoli which I'm starting to see in the stores that dropped Cock 'n Bull. It's horrible.

I personally enjoy a nice G&T in the summer. Also a good margarita or Mexican martini is great. Mexican martinis are really popular in Austin, but I rarely see them elsewhere.

LOL, tried the Stoli and thought the same thing.
INMO its easier, cheaper and you have more control over the "spice" and sweetness but just muddle the ginger with the lime and your sweetener of choice, mine is Agave Nectar.

I agree, Yuengling isn't my thing either. I was referring to both breweries being similar in that they never sold out.

I'm not sure about the Moosehead lime, but I'm sure the ladies like it.

Exactly... and since it was a big hit, it tells you what a party at my place was like. Ah, the good old days!

Here is the answer key:

The nectar of the gods... and brewed by a PSU alum.
If only you could get it consistently outside of Vermont. Will alumni status earn you the right to a case? I was lucky enough to get a 4 pack of this and some Focal Banger & Crusher when my son and friend went hiking in Vermont a few years ago

I think the limit on Heady is 12 now (and limit on Focal is 24).
Seems like a lot until you consider some days you can walk in to Treehouse and leave with 5+ cases.

This ought to be set up as a poll with candidates beer, mojito, gin and tonic, cape cod, and margarita. If you insist on a bourbon entry a properly made julep and for gods sake not with jd rotgut.

As to nonalcoholic, Arnold Palmer all the way.

I do love Hendrick's as my "go to" but am looking for other options to try. I just bought a bottle of Bloom but haven't tried it yet. Have any other suggestions?
Money 47 - may be hard to find, though it is getting easier - the best G&T I've had
