For @Art and other whisky lovers - anyone have any experience with Suntory Royal? My wife just came back from a trip to Tokyo and picked me up a bottle (she said it was near impossible to find Yamizaki, and was told it was 'sold out'), which I wasn't familiar with. I think there are some different expressions of this, but she brought me the bottle below:

I looked around online and it gets really positive review for the most part, and retails for around $160 (I think she paid half that in Tokyo). I'm eager to give it a try tonight but was wondering if others have seen or had this, and if so, how it compares to other Japanese whisky offerings.
Savage and Cooke’s Burning Chair is pretty magnificent.

Next time I venture to East Stroudsburg, Pa. gonna stop at this distilleries’ tasting room to try this. Distillery is in Virginia and is the only
mother/daughter distillery (easy ro, easy!) in the US. Got good ratings and they now serve it at one of our favorite restaurants in Canadensis, Frogtown Chophouse.

Okay, so have been moving away from bourbons recently to more single malt style whiskies, and have been enjoying the experience. Had some Japanese Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky as well as some Balvenie Caribbean Cask (finished in rum barrels), but my most recent discovery was my favorite - Brenne, which is a French single malt whisky aged in both new French Limousin oak barrels and Cognac casks. A very easy sipper and sort of gives you the best of both whisky and cognac (notes of sweet vanilla, pastry, and fruit bouquets). It's a relatively new company founded by former ballerina Allison Parc - it retails in the $60-$70 range, but I found it really, really enjoyable and versatile (great in traditional whisky cocktails for example, but perfect neat). Anyone try this? Give it a shot if you're looking for something new!

And here's some trivia I learned by reading an article on the brand - the French drink more whisky per capita than any other country in the world. That is stunning (if indeed true).

Yuengling, any variety is fine with me but I'd prefer in order: Lord Chesterfield, Premium, Golden Pilsner, or Lager.

If anyone following along should ever himself in St Petersburg, IMHO you really should make your way to Mandarin Hide. I recommend the Port of Envy, but you can’t go wrong with anything.
