Bo Bassett announces @approx 8:30 pm Eastern

Too much has happened since then to remember all of the details. Am I correct that Sunderland was the coach who recruited Ed? I also read somewhere that Quentin Wright had a lot to do with convincing Ed to come to Penn State.

Not trying to derail this thread, but I think Ed is a great example for any potential PSU recruit who wants to be an NCAA champion, including Bassett.
Yes, Sunderland recruited Ruth to PSU; Ed was part on the incoming recruit class when Sanderson arrived.

Quentin Wright was a year ahead of Ruth and already had a year at PSU when Sanderson was hired. I know nothing about Wright's influence on Ruth's recruitment.

It's Virginia tech all day. I hope I'm right that would be sooooo awesome. Iowa nitwits would implode
I voted for them in the current poll and posted a while back that VT made sense given all the parameters. I still think that and wouldn't be shocked if Bo went there. The shadow of Gable looms over Iowa; 34 titles, John Smith and now DT loom over OSU; Cael is the face of PSU's program. If Bo really wants to break new ground and take VT's program to the next level, it's a great choice.

This doesn't work for my timeline tea-leaves reading, though. ;)
wonder if he will actually have to go to class?
Is that even an NCAA requirement any more? 🤣

Tyler is 2 seasons in. Van Ness is 2 seasons in. So is Mesenbrink. So is Levi. Bo could redshirt and take over when any of them graduate. I don’t think a recruit like Bo is worried about making varsity.
Haines is now in his 3rd season, so only one more after 2024-25. Not that I ever see Bassett at 174 lb.

But, yeah, the timing appears ideal for Bassett to slide in at 149 after SVN finishes up (assuming Blaze remains at 141). Unless Bassett is dead set against red-shirting as a true frosh.

Someone on Twitter replied to Mineo's first tweet that it has to be Penn State, and Mineo quickly replied it's not. He then deleted that comment that it's not Penn State.

Whatever Pat's information, I believe he has actual information, and I believe it doesn't point Penn State's way.

Again, though, things change and move quickly. His info could have been accurate yesterday and inaccurate today because kids change their minds.
I never said I thought it was PSU--I have no earthly idea who it is--but the mega NIL angle to me was/is clearly a troll job.

What is his NIL income from social media right now? It's got to be a pretty penny. For him, the monetary end really has to be where he will maximize his own brand value, not who's offering the biggest bag. That's just temporary income, not a lifetime stream.
I’m not saying the rumors are legitimate, but $5 million is NOT a temporary income. At a reasonable 7% annual return, that’s $350k per year. Most could just live off that investment earnings, never touching the $5m balance.

Nah, it was a poor attempt at humor re the Rutgers rumor, I’ll update my comment.

I hate when good rumors generate great discussion and then one of the parties involved declares them untrue.
Tom Brands makes $700k year. The HWC has total assets of roughly $3.5MM. Bob Nicholls donated $7MM to have the new Wrestling room named after himself, and is reportedly already indebted to current Hawkeye athletes.

My question: Who would benefit from leaking the ridiculous $5MM NIL figure? It never passed the sniff test (for me).

If all the offers were comparable I would still feel Penn St. has the best shot, this decision is coming a few days after Bo watched Penn st. deliver belt to ass on Iowa.
Although maybe he finds it tempting to be the Knight in shining armor who helps to slay the mighty dragon that is this PSU Dynasty. However delusional that may be.

Preview of Bo's decision:

"The decision that I have decided to make is that I decided to take another six months of deciding before I make a decision. With that said I am adding 22 schools back onto my list effective immediately and will eliminate them one by one each week on pay-per-view interwebs until all schools but one have been eliminated. In the meantime, I hope all you old men and youngsters across the country continue to obsess over my life."

According to Bo , all offers are in the same ball park. So that's sounds great for the good guys.

Let's be real. If he was chasing the money, I think he is savvy enough to not say so. He would say the money is about the same and I am going where it feels best. That is the best public face for Bo and for the school. And Bo is media savvy that way. Some in the big money sports (mostly BB) want everyone to know how big their bag was for some perverse validate. Bo does not strike me as that guy.

And.....I have no idea, but if I had to wager my $83, I think he is going to be an ............................ IOWA HAWKEYE

I am PSU thru and thru, but this feels like Iowa to me

It's pretty clear to me PSU should be at the top of the list for everything Bo wants, except... He has repeatedly referred to his two brothers being a significant consideration.

I have no clue of the mapping/projections for what weights they will wrestle and when, but if there is a log jamb having his next brother in line, maybe that hurts us. I am also not fully clued in to their p4p age rankings.

No program can promise a kid a slot in the lineup 2-3 years or let alone next season. At PSU you have to win your slot clearly. However I wouldn't be surprised if other programs stretch the truth a bit to land someone like Bo & kin

Not going to iowa, way to much drama. Olk.st or psu.

If it is indeed "all about the money", it's interesting to me to see someone who has been so publicly professesing to be very devout in their faith, quoting Bible verses, and holding Bible studies, all of a sudden flip their script and so easily and conveniently get caught up and ignore what the Bible says about "greed", not to mention "hypocrisy". If that's the case, so much for any "religious" gimmick. Hebrews 13:5.

Besides, who in their right mind would go to Iowa with Brands there.
Wonder if he will get a tattoo for the occasion.

Just saw something that he's going Iowa.. We will wait and see.
If Mineo is correct on record setting NIL then that sure points there.
I don't think PSU or Okie St. will be playing that game.
If he does end up at IA it will be interesting to see who follows if anyone.

And I get the point that Penn State will be fine either way. But are you telling me that a kid sitting in BJC and watching Friday night's match says to themselves: "After watching that match, I know I want to go to Iowa so I can be on the losing end of these beatdowns."

Alternative perspective for those who can’t imagine a wrestler like Bassett wanting to go to Iowa after seeing them get curb stomped the other night —

“How cool would it be to be THE guy that helped turn around a faltering storied program like Iowa, restored them to their former glory, and made D1 wrestling competitive again.”

Someone with that mindset might even imagine a 2nd statue being erected outside Carver-Hawkeye Arena one day with his likeness. You never know what might motivate a teenager.

You mean "I'm going to out-Spencer Lee Spencer Lee"? Or "I'm going to do what Spencer Lee couldn't do"?

I agree with this, he knows after seeing that whooping if he goes to PSU it pretty much gtd PSU dynasty continues for another 8+ years… or if he goes to Iowa/okie state he can be the big diff maker to challenge psu..
