Who do we have slot into 149 after?
Can Sealey drop down ?
With amputation. He's at 165 this year.

Maybe Blaze gets up there, but he looks more like a 141. Right now Shayne's most likely successors are Herring, Perry, and Weiss. Maybe Pierce for a year, except Shayne will get a medical shirt if he wants it.

Don't know the particulars, but it seems like SVN already was granted the medical redshirt. Byers has called SVN a "fourth-year sophomore" and SVN is listed as a sophomore on the PSU wrestling team roster.

Lets not forget Bo is still a kid. Whatever his reasons are for choosing whatever school he does, its his decision. I'm not saying the figures being thrown around aren't true, and I'm not saying they are. There are very few that actually know and sooner or later it will come out. I know as an 18 year old, if a school offered me $5mil, I would be wearing that singlet. I have a hard time believing anyone would turn down that kind of money. I also heard Oklahoma St offered a private jet for his parents to attend all competitions. Again, who knows what the truth is. If he chooses any school other than Penn State, I hope he does well enough to make that team finish behind the blue and white. When his college career comes to an end, I will cheer for him to bring home a gold in every international event. That goes for Jax as well. Hopefully they both stay healthy. At the end of the day, wherever they choose to attend college, shouldn't be a cause to lose sleep for any of us.

"have a hard time believing anyone would turn down that kind of money. I also heard Oklahoma St offered a private jet for his parents to attend all competitions. "

I have a harder time believing they can offer such a largesse. And people being what they are, how do you think that plays with the rest of the team? How about the football and basketball teams that actually generate the big bucks. Can you see that 6-4 Quarterback with the rifle for an arm and a 4.5 40 saying -I want what the wrestler got? How about the 6-9 forward who hits threes with a swoosh of the net more often than not?

If and I say if such a deal is true; it should be public knowledge. Let's not forget, colleges have their grubby mitts in our pockets and that's especially true with state schools. Please don't tell me about how sports moneys are separate or I'm going to lecture you on fungibility and nobody wants that.

Last summer I took a CPE for my accounting license of NIL. Two things they said: NIL isn't "pay for play" and it's in a state of flux. I guess we know what changed.

Let the kid in Norman's parents' scrimping and saving-struggling to pay his or her tuition know about it so they can reign hell on their state politicians.

True. What I meant was: he technically doesn't get the extra year until after his original RS SR year. At that time he might choose to take it, or he might choose to go straight to freestyle. Selfishly I hope he takes it.

Perry lost to Bassett's backup who got TF by Bo in the finals
This is true but misleading. Perry lost 2-1 in rideouts to Jackson Butler, who last year was regional champ and placed at states. This year he got squeezed out of the lineup by Herring and Bassett.

It was an upset. Perry should consistently beat Butler. But that's no scrub.

Bigger point is still true, Perry has not shown the same potential as Bassett so far.

This just doesn't seem plausible.

Charter flights run about $5k/hour. Johnstown to Stilly is about 3 hrs each way -- let's assume that's a good average for all competitions (i.e, CKLV and WVU balance each other out). 14 duals + CKLV + B12s + NCAAs --> $500k/year.

That assumes: a charter service based out of Western PA (one out of DFW or OK would be double); charges include aircrew pre-flight time; the Bassetts pay for their own hotels, ground transportation, meals, incidentals, etc.; and Bo does not compete in any Opens.

Note that this would be around 100 flight hrs/year. James Franklin has logged 396 flight hrs on charters in 10 years.

Let me actually clear the air on the true reason I feel the way I do about this recruitment:

I hate Iowa.

I think Bo’s relationship with his family has not figured as prominently in the comments made here as is merited. Bo’s father has built a juggernaut at Bishop McCort (together with Jax’s dad). He currently coaches 3 of his kids, Bo being the oldest. Bo seems to have extremely close relationships with Melvin (a sophomore) and Kegan (a freshman). All three of them have traveled all over the country and the world for competitions and will continue to do so. Johnstown is an hour and a half drive from State College. State College is the home of the best college wrestling program in the country with the top coaches and most accomplished wrestling partners. And I haven’t even mentioned the best RTC - the NLWC. Logically speaking, would someone as close to family as Bo appears to be, with an ability for his family to watch him flourish just a short drive up the road, pass on that so he can go to a less accomplished program a multi-hour plane ride away? If money truly isn’t an issue (Bo indicated on Flo yesterday that the NIL offers are substantially similar - and I’ll take him at his word) selecting to wrestle at Penn State is the obvious decision.

The other teams’ players’ demands really aren’t a thing. Those prices are dictated by what other teams value those players at. If that’s not as big a number as Bo, oh well.

His value is somewhat unique in that he’s perceived as a sure thing, he brings a big set of eyes onto the program of choice (more net new eyes to some programs than others), and an expected coattail of wrestlers (again net new is more for some programs). PSU’s benefit among the finalists on those last two points is probably lowest, so we’d be relying on having the most proven formula to win.

Pretty much your last few sentences have always where I have been in his recruitment:

Rationally thinking through, it never made sense that Bo would ever wind up anywhere but State College. There isn't one box that any other school checks that Penn State doesn't check, but there are a lot of checks that Penn State has that no other considered school checks.

Again, that doesn't mean there isn't one overarching consideration I am missing. But the predominant ones that I believe most recruits consider, such as college success, international success, lineup availability, training partners, distance to home, school academics, all of it, my AI calculator just never spit out anywhere but State College.

I am taking him for his word that the NIL offers were all pretty similar.

It has been discussed, but stuff gets lost in 65 pages of a thread.

Agreed with all of this, but who really knows for sure. Kids say one thing and do another all the time. For example: the Bouzakis family is also tight. Nic said during his recruiting that a women's team was a priority so that he, Vince, and Jaclyn could attend college together. Then he chose Ohio State, which has no women's program. Then Vince flipped from Ohio State to Pitt, which also has no women's program.

The Ferrari family is also tight and, well, never mind.

I could see Nic flipping to Pitt after the season given the room at tOSU next year and the possibility that Nic is odd man out. Speaking of families desiring to compete in the same geographic area, I understand Mitchell now has two sisters competing in sports at PA colleges. That’s a close family.

Agreed, if all the NIL are similar, there is no advantage to going anywhere else than State College. Therefore, if the choice is other than PSU, than $$$ is by far the most likely factor. He has no choice but to say money is similar and less than what is being presented. Believe the actions, not the words. And....I don't blame him regardless of the decision. It is his decision and regardless of the $$, deciding where he will spend the next 4-5 years is a significant life decision.

All you need to achieve wrestling goals are at Penn State - tough to find a better place.

Aside from wrestling, how would we know what intangibles drive this kid. Who knows what other boxes Bo has, some of which may cut against Penn State. Does he want to be the face of something new and fresh? Does he like the guys in the room - or dislike any of them? Does he hit it off with one coach more than another? Even if the family is tight, does he want to get further away from home than an hour and a half drive?

You guys are neglecting one possible motivation that might make Bo choose Iowa. Maybe he has an insatiable appetite for corn! 😁

The thing that surprises me if he goes to Iowa is leaving his family. Just makes zero sense to me. Lee is not going to make him better than anyone can and will at Penn State.
Yea, I'm not sure where the narrative that Spencer will make a great coach comes from.

He did a lot of things in college that can't be taught and I'm not sure his style will translate to middle and upper weights in general.

Not wrestling consolations after losing in the semis isn’t a good look for someone charged with teaching young athletes either.

Odd that Bo said less than a week ago that he was going to wait until summer.

Plus we have the OSU v Iowa match in a few weeks. What could have changed his mind, to accelerate his announcement?

He attended the wipeout this past weekend, so there is that!

I just hope you all showed him enough respect at the meet. Why wasn't he sitting with Bo?
