Bo Bassett announces @approx 8:30 pm Eastern

The good news is that if he goes to Iowa, we get to watch Iowa implode over the next couple years with our bucket of popcorn. How will Slumlord Bob explain a 4th place finish at nationals with a $30M team once he ponies up for all the guys so they don't leave?
"I told you, the field is now level damnit!"

174? This must be Kennedy's last year. If Arnold were to make the lineup next year at 174 i am guessing you meant to say he would be one of ttheguys probably making the podium behind Levi next year?
If Ferrari doesn't move up to 197 next year, Arnold will be dropping back down. Not sure why you are so triggered here, my point still stands either way, if Arnold is an AA this season, he will be in a position to ask for more NIL if they dole out 5 million to a recruit.

So I agree with the fact that a recruit getting $5M will encourage existing roster members to look around. It just seems to me that it doesn't really matter which school's booster put up the money, yours or a rivals.

Does PSU have a wrestling booster the equivalent of Iowa's Larry or the OSU guy?
The problem becomes that if it’s another school willing to pay, you lose that kid. It’s not the kid’s problem but it’s certainly the coach’s problem assuming he’d rather not lose him.

So it has to be you or you’re back to square one. Spent 5 million to conceivably win a title just to see 2 AA level guys leave. Or demand massive raises.

This is why it’s such a big risk. You’re not just paying one guy this. You’re paying more guys a lot more with this or losing them. Good for them and as long as it’s Monopoly money it’s not bad for the booster. But then you have to win because they were finishing 2/3 regularly without the several times increase in payroll.

Bo is no doubt an incredible wrestler but he’s not better than Blaze or Duke and Im sure those 2 didn’t get much. I would’ve loved to have Bo but not like this. If Iowa is his choice he will never reach his potential. At least he will be rich though. I’d much rather him go to Iowa than Okie State as well

In reality, freshman Bo wrestling for Iowa competes against Shayne or Tyler. Pretty sure the beatdown is still 30-8. After that probably wrestling against PJ.
There is a reason elite dudes go to PSU. Better training equates to better probabilities of winning championships. Bo should take the 5 mill, wherever it is coming from. Life altering financial opportunity. Like I wrote in a different post. Give me 5 million and I am perfectly happy being a 4 time AA.
That about sums it up.

So here’s a radical thought: Bo is only a junior. If the NIL rumor is true and you’re prepared to pay Bo $5MM to wrestle for your team, how would you feel about him wrestling another year in HS before joining your program? The risk of career-impacting injury is too high.

Is it possible for Bo to re-classify himself as a HS senior and enter college next fall?

So, IF, it’s a record NIL deal, then it’s not PSU, correct?

Maybe Bassett to Okie St and Forrest to the good guys?

If it is a $5 million number and when you add that into slumlord Bob being here for the match and the Bassetts being here, it makes sense that it’s Iowa. Like someone else previously noted, a good business man’s gonna make an offer and say take it or leave it right now or the offer is gone.

That would be the best thing that could happen for PSU. NIL money is not inlimited, it’s not unending. That $5 million is $5M dollars they can’t spend on other recruits. Plus that amount of money is liable to upset the apple cart with Ayala and Ferrari and others.

All the while, we’ll figure Bassett out and our 41 or 49 or 57 will still beat him. That will be the sweetest part of all. Theyll spend $5 million for maybe a couple of individual Bassett NCAA titles but we’ll still get ours. And we still win the team titles.

Are there are limits on how much a third-party NIL sponsor can spend?

Basset is how old ? Age wise ? I’ve heard 19 yrs old currently as a junior in high school. Any factual answer appreciated. Thx.

It's also $5M not available for resident athletes at HWC.

So Cael can import Snyder, Dake, and Gilman to supplement the alumni. Taylor can bring in RBY + Zahid. And Brands supplements the alums -- those who actually stay -- with varsity 3rd-stringers.

Not to my knowledge. My point was nothing is unlimited. At some point the money runs out. Especially with a sport like wrestling.
Fair enough, but they're third parties. Who knows how much they're willing to spend.

Michigan supporter Larry Ellison has a net worth of $215B. Oregon supporter Phil Knight has a net worth of $30B.

You can bank on that being false -- he'd be ineligible next year.

PIAA rule for all sports: you must be 18 or younger on June 30 to compete in the upcoming season.

Not really triggered, but.
Arnold finishing AA this year seems to be a wise guess. However, with the mental beatdown the twins seem to putting him through there has to be somewhat of a question as to his focus once the post season gets here. The other part is you did say, challenge for a championship. I was just pointing out I doubt he is that much of a challenger for an NCAA championship next year, at least at 174.

With the amount of effort put into screwing with the kid's confidence i am not sure he would be all that eager to demand more from the guys who would rather embarrass him than claim the starters role.

IDK if that'll happen. Bassett is currently 2 weight classes lighter, and not the tallest guy out there. Plus Duke might not be done growing.

Bassett vs Forrest might be more likely. Jax has a wiry build and will likely add muscle in college.
That makes sense If that’s the case , I’ll follow Jtown Steel, I think he always posted Jax is the one to get out of the 2

I'm sure most of us would be more than happy with 5 mil and 4X AA.

But many of these guys got other aspirations. Worlds and Olympics. The practically vacant Iowa RTC isnt getting many there.

FYI - This appears to be a perfectly reasonable question, but seemed to trigger some folks on this board in a previous discussion (e.g., "what difference does it make?", "who cares?", etc.) Of course, that was when more folks had hope he would come to PSU. So the question may be fair game now.

Anyway, according to our friend the Internet (Reddit, in particular), Bassett just turned 18 last month (5 Jan 2025). If that is accurate, he'll graduate from HS at nearly age 19-1/2 and turn 20 roughly midway through his true freshman year in college.

If Cael gets Jax on the roid program, he will be 184 in no time. ;)
