Bo knows Ju Jit Su

Ok that was disappointing, but I thought Bo looked great. That Suplex was a thing of beauty. Now to be fair Ryan has to wrestle him Free or Folk his choice

No idea what happened but looks like Bo held his own. I love his competitiveness, was pissed he lost in his first BJJ match ever to the world's best right now.

I think he tapped out.. No?

I'm not certain but I think Bo slamming the other guys head to the mat is illegal in BJJ. Bo was standing and the other guy had him in a front triangle choke with his legs body locked around Bo. Bo tried to shake him but couldn't and realized his only way out before being choked out was to slam his head to the mat.
I'm pretty sure that is illegal. Purely a guess.

No Ryan got a leg 'triangle lock' on Bo's arm and head, Bo stood up and slammed him once and they called the match. Looked like once in that kind of hold you must have, 5 seconds to escape it or they call the match.

Since I don't know the rules, I am clueless but Bo looked to dominate and I am certain I have zero interest in this particular discipline.

If you take a guy down they then assume the seating butt scoot position which seems to have significant advantages tactically. I don't get it, and don't want to.

Bo was noticeably pissed so you can be sure he wanted to win. The best part, from neutral Ryan backed in to Bo and he did a beautiful Suplex, up over and on to Ryan's head. He looked a bit dazed to me for a moment and the then basically slowly lured Bo into his trap from the seated position, where the ref forced Bo to engage

Slamming is illegal in BJJ. I am not sure about the rules they were using, but guys get DQ'd For Suplex in IBJJF Tournament . Slamming is listed as a technical foul, which is differentiated from a head-first suplex .

The original BJJ that I trained in the early 70's was completely different than today's sport BJJ. Original BJJ was developed for no rules Vale Tudo fighting and self defense.

Jiu-jitsu for a grappling competition and jiu-jitsu for a street altercation are completely different.

This sport reminds me of when old wrestlers get drunk and decide to wrestle each other. The crowd looks as interested as the picnic goers do while the old drunk guys are wrestling. No thank you.

A lesser man would have ended his post right there

my guess on the ending:

gordon locked up the triangle choke.
bo then picked gordon up and slammed him.
i'm assuming this is legal based on the announcers saying they were happy to see it, plus i think bo would know a big enough rule that had the possibilitiy of getting him disqualified.
but during the slam, bo's head/chest pulled in closer to gordon's crotch, and the choke got tighter.
bo realized that it was pretty much impossible for him to escape from that position and tapped.

Glad I did not watch that live. All I know is in a fight if you turn your back like Gordon did you get hurt badly. Makes no sense.
Makes sense if your a jiu jitsu pro like Gordon Ryan is. He has more technical skill than most here can fathom. While not in a street fight, in this instance he can easily grab one of Bo’s legs and knee barred him.

jiu jitsu is both an art, a sport, a self defense skill wrapped up in one amazing discipline.

I witnessed it change lives in so many ways from battling addiction, wait loss, and self confidence.

I love Bo! But, had Gordon had access to his submission arsenal, it would have ended quickly!

Lastly, slamming your opponents head in a grappling match is a No No! No was caught and about to go to sleep .....not to mention could have suffered a broken left arm had Ryan chosen too if allowed too! Triangle to arm bar is a natural sequence when attacking from your back!

Bo will be a monster once he learns! Having his wrestling background will only enhance his jitsu and all around Mma game.

hopefully he’ll get into boxing and Muay Tai as well!

And, it’s the skill set taught to our military more and more as well as law enforcement. Just an fyi

Reminds me of a fight between a couple of kids I grew up with. One was into martial arts and he starts the fight by getting into a pose. The other kid punched him once in face. Fight over. It was funny as heck at the time.
that's what mike tyson said

Lyons said " turn your back like Gordon did you get hurt badly. Makes no sense" . Gordan was setting Bo up for a submission hold around 5 minutes left. He wanted to use a donkey guard . Bo defended the donkey guard very well and got an easy freestyle wrestling takedown.

About 2 minutes left Gordan went to the ground to set up another submission hold. Bo eventually was going to get stalled out. The modified rule format prevented Nickal from simply disengaging and so, to his credit, he fought Ryan on the ground. Bo had to play in Gordon's guard. Ryan positioned himself quickly, threatening a shoulder trap sweep before transitioning to a triangle choke which he used to earn the submission victory against Nickal. The commentators were babbling at the time , but I think I heard Bo verbal "tap". Bo would have been DQ ed for the slam otherwise.

That’s why Floyd Maywether wouldn’t dare step foot in an octagon with 4oz gloves! where punches, kicks and submissions were allowed. He’d have a punchers chance for sure....just before he was taken down, beat to a pulp or submitted....or both!

I really hope to learn more about jujitsu as a competition, as my son continues to be interested in it. I feel like wrestling is easier for a casual spectator to comprehend, which surely limits jujitsu fans to those who have competed and trained in it. Doesn’t mean it’s not an extremely technical and effective form.

See the video I posted upthread for a good short primer on the rules. I gotta say though, that because it looks enough like wrestling, seeing and anticipating scoring is really difficult and counterintuitive. Like learning a new language except the language is English but with all the words rearranged.

I know nothing about Jujitsu at all. I'll just say this...watching that video did not make me want to learn more.

This is the Jamaican martial arts counter to the back that shizzy up move Ryan was using.
