Bob Shoop a man of his word ....

You may consider leaving a wonderful company when you're stuck under an inept supervisor

They are if you're goal is constant runner up to Bama or whoever comes out of the west. Not to mention Georgia will probably spank them now that Smart is there.

True, but its hard to disagree if that is his thought process, especially with how well they played vs Bama this year and spanked Northwestern.

It will be interesting to see how he makes out at TN. Previously, he said that Pry was his reality check.

I have no problem with him doing what he thinks is best for his career and family.....on the other hand keep your mouth shut so you don't look like a lying fool.

Not to mention that he could have left a week ago for a lot more $$$. This has to be one of the dumbest sequence of moves I've ever hard of....

Yep. Just don't say anything. No one said he can't take other jobs, just don't talk about how you hope to be at Penn State forever and then make a lateral move a week later.
Well said. Don't blow smoke up our ass. He loved being at PSU last year when he listened and accepted a big pay raise.
I really question this mans honesty. Would be hesitant to listen to him on the recruiting circuit.

Agree but whom would you listen to: BOB, Lane Kiffin, Todd Graham, Bobby Petrino. Unfortunately, it is a function of the day and age. Gattis tweeted earlier about fans wanting to see coaches hired and fired and not considering the personal side, but Shoop made his bed with his comments.

Fans either want coaches hired or fired!Where's the middle ground of accepting teams/coaches 4 who they are! Real people with real families!

Agree I am disappointed in his talking points that he had two weeks ago meant nothing.
Sad but in today's world words mean nothing
Success With Honor .. Something that is lost in today's world

Doubt if the "supervisor" had much to do with Shoop's wanderlust. One caveat...in several post game pressers where the D got torched, JF mentioned simplifying the schemes so the players would react more and think less. Maybe there was some head-butting over that this past season. Who knows??

I just don't understand all the talk about hoe he wanted to be at Penn Sate and two weeks later jump ship.
I am starting to think Franklin told him I am not playing this game every year. I do not want someone who is on a year to year commitment. We want someone for the long haul.
A promotion is different. This was not a promotion

Just maybe....Franklin is growing a pair??? Not necessarily a bad thing I guess. If we knew that was the case anyway.

...or maybe Shoop left because he sees a bleak future for Franklin and wants job stability.

Shoop wants to be a head coach and I can't blame him for that. We don't really know Shoop's motivations here, but he may see Tennessee as a quicker path to that goal. If Shoop craved stability, he would not have made a dozen coaching moves over the past 25 years.

If you hire highly-regarded, successful coordinators, they're only going to be around for 2-3 years.

Who are all these trolls trying to torch Franklin? You landed Shoop - now go back to your Tennessee board. You can have him. He's a real role model for kids, should fit right into the SEC mold…His players will be serving me at Popeye's down the road.

I feel sorry for his family. They've lived here for less than a year after living apart from him for 1 1/2 years. And now they'll be on their way again. No way to raise kids.

Just behaving like any business. Looking out for himself. There is no pride anymore when it comes to money.

Listening to Phil Grosz yesterday morning he spelled it out and it made perfect sense to me. He'll be in Tenn. for one year, they are loaded with talent on D opposed to the re-building D of PSU, and will be a head coach for the 2017 season. Regarding his statement in FL. about PSU I don't know what to say. If he is a scum, what goes around almost always comes around. This is coaching as it is today. We will have a lot of turnover from here on - it's the way the game is played now.

Good luck to Shoop in getting a HC job. When he gets the question from the search committee about his ability to maintain confidential information is when things will get interesting. I would love to hear his response when they ask him how the media knows he's interviewing for their opening and every other job he's applied for the past 2 years.

I hate to say this, but Shoop must think Tennessee is closer to competing then Penn State.
That's just it - if this is true, it's because Shoop didn't bring Penn State closer to competing. Success at Tennessee with someone elses talent doesn't demonstrate his ability to build a successful defense/program. I would think THAT is what a school should be looking for when searching for a HC.

I've been on this board for a long time bud. Another one jumped ship from a staff that preached "loyalty". But no you're right he is clearly in control
