Sorry if discussed in another thread. Did anyone think that Brands asking to be thrown was taking some if the spotlight of the moment and putting on him. I'm sure not consciously, but the Brands are always out there personality wise and this was another of those moments where he could make himself as big as the moment. The first thing I thought when he was asking to be thrown was Clark didn't want to do it. After he did threw him, he humbly ran out to shake hands and walked off modestly. That wasn't a spectacle he wanted. Not Iowa bashing, just my perception of the moment.

Yes. Brands said throw me throw me !!!! Not sure why any elite wrestler would want to wrestle for Iowa for numerous reasons....

This topic has been talked about at naseum.

Who cares how one celebrates a major accomplishment?

You win a national championship as coach or wrestler, you're filled with emotion. I think it's sad people want to even talk about how others act in a state of euphoria while we behind our keyboards telling other people how to celebrate

I'm guessing this was Brands way of showing Iowa has fun to. Penn State had 5 in the finals to the Hawks 1 and he probably felt he had to get as much mileage out of Clarks victory as possible.

I was thinking the same thing. It was an opportunity to make Iowa look fun, it was contrived, and it was embarrassing to watch. I felt bad for Clark as it appeared he didn't want to participate in such a display.

Something says to me the throw actually has a meaning between Terry and clark. at least the post match coverage and interviews make me think that.

Like getting the monkey off your back ....or in this case....the hamster......(malone your queue)

I get all the armchair celebration policing when an athlete is just awful but this just came off to me as good fun, regardless of whether it's been done before (many fans wouldn't know that) or that Brands prompted it because who cares? I don't know enough about their relationship to know whether Terry was detracting from Clark's moment because I'd have to first know how Clark felt about it and I don't. Maybe they discussed it prior. Besides, people laughed and it made for good TV. I think it was a nice moment for the sport, and it came at at good time, as the previous matches were somewhat flat.

How many threads are going to be started about this? It was a sweet moment for all of us Hawk fans. Loved it!

Yes, Terry Brands telling his wrestler to throw him....and his wrestler effectively being the more adult and effectively saying - do I really have to? I really don't want to... Is just such a "sweet moment? More of a "scripted moment" WWE-style, than a "sweet moment" imho, but "to each his own" I suppose. The fact that you believe this "scripted" event was a touching moment as an Iowa fan says everything anyone needs to know about the difference between Cael's PSU Program and the TNT Show at Iowa.

Clark's comments show he wasn't a fan of it, didn't want to do it

Clark deserved better. It was his moment.

Terry is a d-bag.

Get the **** over yourself. You are making something out of nothing. It was awesome!

It was awesome. Shouldnt you be celebrating your own guys today? Instead you would rather hate on Terry? Those of you psu fans that are embarrassed of Terry are sad a pathetic people.

Dunke... the Hamster has died. He danced himself to death. Tom Brands dance will live as a living testament to Hamster Dancers everywhere who want those hips to bump and grind.

I have met Terry and Cory. Great people! Most have you that are talking shit have only seen them on TV.

Shouldn't you be over on your own board celebrating your 4th place finish, first champ in 3 years, and making Sandusky jokes?

Ya know... to each their own. I wouldn't have done it, but if everyone were like me, the world would be a boring place. It didn't hurt anything or anyone. They weren't being obnoxious or calling someone out. He was just trying to enjoy the moment with Clark, and everyone will remember that moment. As long as it doesn't bother Clark, because it was his moment, it shouldn't bother anyone else.

Everyone is allowed an opinion including you. But if someone doesn't agree with you it doesn't make them sad or pathetic. I thought it was contrived and goofy. You can see clearly Clark said no at first and Terry stayed on him. Is it the end if the world...of course not but people are allowed their opinions. Some people said it was great and made ESPN to help grow the sport, I thought it was closer to WWE and reinforces some negative perceptions to the novice fan. At that end if the day it's trivial, however don't come on another board and tell people how they should think.

Yep. Just ask the people at VT about Tom. They are thrilled with him.

Unless you are intimate friends with them, you see their public persona.

I occasionally go over to HR to read up, great board sometimes. It's tough though, so much hate and disrespect. I sometimes fall into the trap that this one team (IA) has worse fans than any other school.
Then I read several threads on here and I'm reminded that it's just a numbers game. The more successful you are, the more fans you attract. With the numbers come the trolls and the haters.
Was the throw contrived? Yep.
Was it cheesy? Yep.
Are we still talking about it? Yep.
If anything Cory's spotlight is brighter now because of it.

Let's have more WE ARE! and less they are.... at least today.

Well its my opinion that making a big deal out of nothing just because you dont like Iowa or Terry is sad and pathetic. Im not telling you how to think. Just telling you how i think

I was embarrassed for Brands. Your guy just won an NCAA championship and you think it's a great idea to steal the attention? Shame on him, very weak.
I was thinking the same thing. Why's he trying to steal the attention. It was just odd.
