Cael does not seem particularly happy ...

Berge and stalling. Agree, Also agree 4 stall calls was a bit much considering Rivera wasn't anywhere that aggressive calling stalls in any other match.
If that is the best Berge has to offer one of the very elite 165 pounders he probably should consider 157. He isn't going to challenge Carr, nor Deaken but nobody at 157 is going to bully him like Marinelli did.
I thought Brady looked small as well compared to Marinelli.

honestly, i don't think either team wrestled that well tonight.

125 hildebrandt was okay, but ybarra is bad and he had to beat the buzzer for that major. only 1 takedown.

133 my thoughts are known here. rby is capable of more. desanto can't finish without the dump and that will always be his ceiling. neither team should feel great about this match

141 was going how i expected until the brain fart at the end. iowa can't be happy about eierman still being flat and cael can't be happy about lee almost pissing that away

149 murin very good. cael has to be frustrated with bartlett

157 young owes me 7 minutes of my life back. obv 157 not a strength for you guys

165 marinelli best match of the year. berge broke.

174 starocci aggressive, but couldn't finish. had kem dead to rights multiple times. 2nd match in a row where kem struggled to get to legs. going forward, even though neither can reliably score, starocci is better suited to rideouts.

184 should have been a major. assad fought, but is not on the level. brooks capable of more.

197 warner blew this match. couldn't hold up to the pace. dean has carved out a style at 197, but it's a tight rope to walk

285 good job cass. weird match kerk.

on balance, there's a lot for both coaches to be displeased about.
Solid analysis......

I used to go over to the HR for a bit of entertaining reading and also to catch some balanced takes on wrestling. The good posters there were washed into the mix and it was harder and harder to find their posts. I stopped going there two years ago...
If it gets better I'll be back.. Doubt you will be able to change the environment there quickly but I hope you do.

Well, except that Ann Arbor and Lansing are only an hour apart and it's almost all freeway driving.

The hard part was the bus ride to/from State College.
Was Angel the bus driver? Just trying to figure out how to get an average official involved. Yes, I know Angel is somewhat below average, but he is the average bad official.

There are plenty of Iowa Fans that would probably reciprocate those exact words back about this forum as well.

Two passionate fan bases. you guys are basically new to the party (in the last decade) and Iowa fans don't like it. Completely understandable.

Maybe new to the party from a University commitment to wrestling, but PA wrestling fans and PA wrestling are not new to any party.

I actually had the same thought during the match about Cael. He had, what I thought at the time, a kind of disinterested look on his face for much of it. Wasn't sure what to think about, chalked it up to genuine concern about how things were going and then wondered why. Kinda seemed like he was distant or something. I don't see him enough to know if that is normal or not......

This probably won't go over well but IMO, Brady didn't look like he wanted anything to do with The Bull, or wrestling whatsoever last night. It makes me wonder if last night makes him second guess his decision to return. I hope my opinion ends up being complete BS.
Having seen The Bull's donnybrooks with Cenzo I was worried for Berge if it turned into that kind of match. He seemed to wrestle like he was, too. He also looked like he was up a weight. It will be interesting to see how he does against Kharchla.

Come on dude. Penn State wrestling fans are not new to the party (last decade). I have had season tickets to Penn State wrestling since the late 80s. I have attended Penn State wrestling
matches since the 60s. I am not the only person on this message who can make those claims.
As far as the past decade, yeah we are king of the mountain. The goofs on HR have had a decade plus to get used to the order change. To be honest, Iowa wrestling is always present in their competition's mind and always represented by their fans but for the past 11 years they have a single championship and a single runner-up finish. It isn't even like they have been frequently knocking on the door. Hell, go back 2 decades - 4 championships. The Iowa that Iowa fans envision hasn't existed for more than 2 decades.

Perhaps not throwing in ‘goofs’ and insulting the general intelligence may lead to more ‘rational’ discussions? Just a thought.

Like Bo said "Iowa is not relevant".

Both fan bases are biased, or we wouldn't have our own boards..
What I'm saying the douche to good poster ratio is off..
The HR is running rich, maybe 20:1 and the smoke doesn't smell like castor bean oil either..
If you can weed out a bit of the crap and get her up to 50:1 the board will relive its glory days.

Posted on hr board because i believed that i could actually discuss wrestling lol. Found out real quick, that unless your a total nut job Iowa fan you really cannot discuss wrestling there. Unfortunately I went back and antagonized a bit. We do have our own douchbags here but now where near whats over there. I do go read their ridiculous post for entertainment. Like all Iowa wresters are undersized and injured. I get it when your not the top dog after a history of being that, you need excuses to justify what’s happening. Iowa wrestling will always be a good product but its not the Gable era anymore.

“Unfortunately I went back and antagonized a bit”

And there is the rub. Unfortunately
A. Iowa fans will respond
B. Too many of them don’t respond accordingly
And
C. Too many of your predecessors chose to begin with the ‘antagonized a bit’ approach.

iows fans are homers, PSU fans are homers. PSU doesn’t have the market cornered on rational fans. They are out there in all fan bases. With larger fanbases the vocal minority however get the attention. If this board sent their rational posters to the cesspool rather than some of the ‘antagonize’ brigade both fan bases would benefit.

The difference between the two boards how I see it.
Most of the ribbing we give Iowa here is tongue in cheek and it goes back and forth with the HR dudes that come here. Obviously stuff goes over the line but we self police a bit.

Not taking a Zierath or nitlion side on the posts above. I will say that Mike has a point, as Penn State fans (a minority) have chest-thumped on HR more and more as the titles rolled in. No argument from me on that point. It has, at times been tasteless too.

HR, with the most cesspool-dwelling of a mostly respectful fan base (my experience) as the occupants, hasn't dealt well with being second fiddle.

Both fan bases can own some of the hateful, vile, angry, mean-spirited, over-the-top rhetoric. Give me the old-fashioned banter that accompanies respectful rivalries.

Yes, banter is good. Purdue beer pictures, not so good.

Was curious, is this a press conference or was this just a general interview done by Flo after the match? Find it kinda weird that FLO put it behind a paywall. If this was a press conference with other news outlets can this been seen somewhere else? I refuse to ever give Flo another penny.
I can't believe Penn State allows Cael's PC to go behind a pay wall. I also can't believe Flo keeps it behind a pay wall.

Here, lets spin this another way......and I'm only stating the obvious

24 of the last 46 years have been won by Iowa. 8 of the last 10 have been won by PSU. That's a staggering 32 out of 46 between the two programs. Basically, 70% from 2 programs.

Only Oklahoma State has more NCAA Championships than Iowa, since it began championships, in 1928, at 27. And back in the day, Iowa State had 8 Championships as well.

So the tides have turned........and will likely turn again.

Iowa and Oklahoma State, are still the two most recognized and respected programs in the NCAA's from a Championship standpoint. Undisputable. PSU and Iowa State are the second tier, with PSU potentially continuing their current run.

Iowa will have a say in that.

Mike

Then why did u ban me asshat? One Purdue beer picture. Rational and HR don't belong in the same sentence. Thin skinned much?

Cali N.
Did I?

Or did someone else?

I don't recall having any run in with you. If we did, and I banned you, you had it coming, period! I have a very well documented.........long leash.
