Cael does not seem particularly happy ...

Yeah…I’m sure you did at one time or another. I deserved every one of them except one if I’m to be honest. I mean, if a guy is gonna come back after being banned, he should be banned again right?

The only one I ever had a problem with is the first one… which was under the username I’m using now. Never broke any rules but the crew over there didn’t like that someone there was challenging them that our program cheats, that our student athletes and their parents take payments, that our athletes use steroids etc. etc. They hate that I call them out so they start bombarding you and the other mods to get rid of me which is what eventually happened. I’m notbthe only one they complain about, there are others that go there to challenge their idiocy so they cry and whine to you to ban them until it’s done. I mean you know all this, it was the reason for you starting that thread a few years ago calling them out for being a bunch of bellyachers which btw was spot on.

Look, it’s their board, I get that but they are crazy if they think a Penn State fan isn’t going to come there and challenge them when they disparage our school, athletes and their families. Anyway, have huge respect for the Iowa program and the kids that wrestle there. Their fans I’m not too particularly fond of but I’ve never gone there to make personal insults or even physical threats like they do to me…only to set the record straight and to make them look like fools and crybabies when they whine that PSU cheats or our wrestlers take steroids to win. Like I said though, it’s not my board but I think the rules should apply to everyone just the same. Yeah, thanks for hearing me out. Stop in any time. We love having Hawk fans here to give their opinions and insight.

Take Care
M. (Lol)
Thanks for that response.

Yeah, it was 2017, right before NCAA's I believe. I still believe my sig line is accurate. It amazes me how grown men can get so worked up over such little things at times. It doesn't matter what program it is, happens in all of them.

I had an opportunity, back in 2002 I think, to move away from Hawkeye Report and potentially take over as editor of a different site. It was being discussed. PSU did not come up, Wisconsin did, a couple others. I just couldn't see myself on any other site and giving the effort it would require to make it great, like @TomKakert has done at HR (along with @Blair Sanderson , who is maybe the best in the business). I was a booster to the program, and Rivals made a switch towards non-boosters only that could be on the payroll, due to an issue on another team site that had come to light. So, I was out, unless I wanted to go to a different team. Couldn't do it. So, I hung around, helping when I could with opinion articles, an in season football piece that changed focus over the years. And as a mod. Tom and I have been friends since back in like 97/98, so I'm cool to help out.

Been doing this a long time. Even had a PSU guy help develop a Hawkeye Site called Hawkeye Planet back in the day.

Been around since the Big Ten Fan Forum days......I think that was still back in the dial up internet days, 96 or so. Jesus, 25 years. Doesn't seem possible.

Mike

Good lord, this is worse than listening to Democrats and Republicans.
I thought we came to sports boards to get away from that stuff.
Hear hear! I have never understood the attraction to frequenting, let alone stirring up conflict on a rival team's message board. I wish those so inclined would create their own wrestling thunderdome forum to exercise their daily demons and leave the rest of us to talk wrestling here in peace.

So many insightful and knowledgeable wrestling folks here. It's a downer to have to skip over certain poster's comments altogether or occasionally put someone on ignore just to enjoy a thread.

Good to read your background. And great that you stopped by. I’ll be honest, had an entirely different view of you before today. Only wished you would have done this years ago. If you did, I wouldn’t have created so many headaches for you throughout the years. Really, I’m glad to have talked. Wish you well!

The other thing to keep in mind is that Penn State hadn’t been in the Big Ten that long before Cael’s arrival. We won the EWL tourney 17 times in its 20 year existence before joining the Big Ten.

Edit: I was off by a decade (in my head). We were in the Big Ten a good while before Cael. 16 years.

Btw, I’m gonna stop referring to you as “no balls”…

Oh wait, maybe you didn’t know about all that. Forget I said anything….lol

the rhetoric does get old. First of all the presence on this and any board is a far cry of representation of the total fan base. Wrestling isn't all based on college. I would venture to say Pa has always had a rabid wrestling fan base in the HS arena (always = before the 60s). AAs represent that a lot. I like the board for some good point / counterpoint but when one states I'm right and you suck, then why bother. I am certain a lot of the fan base does not come on the boards as a result. Sometimes it appears that the board commentary is simply too meaningful (not) and makes one wonder what they do with thier lives :)

Iowa High School wrestling is about as intense as it gets. I'm sure its very similar in PA.

Now Mike… check the NCAA qualifiers by home state that they put out each year.

Edit:

2021: PA 49; IA 14
2020: PA 48; IA 13
2019: PA 61; IA 11
etc.

I'm sure you have intense fans and wrestling, it's in the water out there.

But Iowa as a state does not come close to PA. And....don't give me the tired argument about population its boring and wrong.

Pa State AAA wrestling bracket at 106 lbs in 2012. (Mind you, that AAA is just one of the two divisions in PA)

Mike Kemerer - 4x AA
Ethan Lizak - 3x AA, 4x NQ
Vincenzo Joseph - 2x Champ, 4x AA
Scott Parker - 2x AA, 3x NQ
Dom Forys - NQ
Jake Gromacki - NQ
+ at least Four other D1 wrestlers

Just checked the weather report for Texas. The rains are gone but one angler filled his creel during the downpour. Beware of strangers bearing gifts.

That PSUFLY guy read a post I made and twisted it to make it sound like something it wasn't. If everyone just took a breath, maybe slowed down, and re-read stuff and tried to put it in context to the overall conversation, these places would be much more tolerable than they are most of the time. Its not hard. You just have to make a conscience effort to do it.

I think its an age thing. When I was younger, I probably did the same thing without really realizing it.

KC, don't try and make it a pissing match............I'm not.

Mike
Own that your post could easily be read exactly how I took it - yet another Iowa fan insinuating that Penn State fandom arrived only after Cael arrived. If you didn’t mean it that way, I accept that. But I didn’t have to twist anything to take it that way.

When you and Iowa fans post about Penn state fans only being passionate since Cael’s arrival, I think some of us read it as PA wrestling fans have only been passionate for a decade.

I don’t think you’d dispute that PA has the best, richest wrestling history in the U.S. As of 2022, 11 of the 78 D1 programs are PA schools. (Iowa has 3.). What would be even more interesting would be to research the number of D2 and D3 programs.

Much like what Gable did for Iowa, Sanderson has centralized the PA wrestling fan base. But the passion, statewide, was always there.

The other point to make about all of this is that of the three schools you identify as being historically great in wrestling, only Penn State hasn’t been sanctioned by the NCAA for violations in their wrestling program.
Yeah…it’s crazy. About 20 years ago, the father of one of my son’s kindergarten friends (an Oklahoma transplant) felt the need to “educate” me on the dominance of wrestling in OK as compared to PA. I was flabbergasted. He had no idea about the dominance of Pennsylvania wrestling compared to their states nationwide.

I often wonder what he was thinking when I started giggling.

They literally wrestle a match ever year of the best wrestlers from 49 states against our best SENIORS. And we win it often enough.

In defense of our guest, he said "Iowa wrestling is about as intense as it gets". He didn't say Iowa wrestling is about as good as it gets. The two terms are not synonymous.

But it’s for sure that all message boards have more than their fair share of loons and juvenile dipsh-ts who can’t debate without resorting to name calling and worse.

There are plenty of Iowa Fans that would probably reciprocate those exact words back about this forum as well.

Two passionate fan bases. you guys are basically new to the party (in the last decade) and Iowa fans don't like it. Completely understandable.

Mike
No they can't there isn't even a comparison. If I said some of the things they say over there I guarantee someone would call me out and they have. Jefe, pawrestling hell even Johnstown will call me out if I go off road. HR is a cesspool because nobody calls anyone out or if they do they are drowned out by all the loonies who think they something about wrestling which they don't sorry. You seem like a level headed guy and there are some great Iowa fans some come over here quite often. They won't let me over there they don't like the truth they can't handle the truth lol

Say the PA guys on the Iowa roster.

Come on man. Everyone in wrestling knows 3 programs, and you guys are the third one to the party.

Mike
the last ten years we are the party. You and okie dokie state quit drinking and went home in 2000. You come back a knocking a couple years here and there but we're too busy partying it up to answer the door. Only one party in town and the lion is the bouncer

I actually came here to find you. I wanted to see if you and @MorleysDawg were one in the same....;)

Did I ban you too? Because, apparently, I've banned everyone that has ever been banned.

Z
I was banned, but probably not you, unless you do a lot on the football board. I was banned for just pointing out their celebrating over our win was short lived after the Purdue game.

Mcpat if your talking about the Pittsburgh wrestling classic its 30-17 USA I believe. But most yrs the USA brings in multiple time state champs at each weight and Pa only let seniors wrestle, most 1 time state champ and we’ll have yrs with kids who placed or even just qualify for states at some weights. Plus some weights we have 2 champs, aa and aaa that only one gets or choices to wrestle.

There is a comparison. These are anonymous boards after all. I have seen people on this board repeatedly trash The Brands, Ramos, Evans, The Bull, Gilman, DeSanto, Stoll, the Iowa fan base, you name it.. without being called out for it. (Roar and others will call them out occasionally)

The same type of imperfect, judgemental, upset people exist on this board aswell. Just like at HR. That's a fact.

If a couple people say something off the wall on HR, some of you guys repeatedly drag it back here and say "Look what HR just said" as if those couple guys represent all Iowa fans there.

The amount of whining that goes on here about HR is far worse than what people on HR complain about this board. How often do you even see Nittnany Nation/BWI even get brought up over there? And don't say it's because asinine posts don't exist here.

Btw, we are not guilty by association if someone doesn't get called out for a terrible post. It doesn't mean we agree or support what they said. I called out a poster a few years ago for some Sandusky garbage and i got the "get f***ed, you are a Penn State fanboy" response. Wonderful. They did get banned FYI but I'm sure they just came back with a new handle.
