We could've been more complimentary of those guys.
For example, Stoll had MLB-level command of the ankle straps when throwing them at opponents.
The other thing about Stoll is he could shoot better than any of Iowa's Basketball players.

Mike Z referred to PSU as the third team to enter the party. I would assume he means OKST and Iowa are the other two teams at the party because of their team championships. While I understand the premise, I have to wonder if this matters to recruits or just the fans as a part of their teams sports history. Do recruits really elect to commit to OKST and Iowa because of what that team accomplished many years before their birth?
It matters to fans, who make their bank accounts matter which in turn makes it matter to recruits in terms of facilities, coaches and intangibles.
I also think seeing all the trophies and propaganda is a big deal for recruits and parents.
But at the end of the day its a what have you dont lately world and PSU has that cornered.

Oklahoma State has 34, but none since 2006. Iowa has 24, but 2021 was the first since Cael really got his PSU program rolling in year 2 (2011). Iowa won it the first 3 years under Jim Zalesky and the first 3 years under Tom Brands. PSU is the dominant team this century so far, with Iowa and Okie State second tier.
For us old-timers, sure Iowa and Oklahoma State are the dominant programs. But that is losing relevance with today's recruits.
I think what Penn State has built and is building has legs. Few, if any, kids wrestling today remember Oklahoma State winning titles. Last year's Iowa title team was kind of weak - they won on quantity, but not quality. Penn State was more impressive even as the runner-up.

Mike seemed like a nice enough guy. However, the silliness that PSU is the third guy to the party was Mike rationalizing Iowa's significance.
It was pointed out Iowa has won 4 titles in the previous 20 or so years and that Iowa is not the Iowa most Hawkeye fans envision. To equate Iowa to the current PSU Iowa folks need to go back to the mid 70s through 2000 so they can belittle PSU's current dominance. To show how magnanimous they are they include Oklahoma State's pre-post WWII dominance. By including OSU's dominant period, it makes sense to include Iowa's run during the last 25 years of the previous millennium and pretend it is significant in today's world.

From the perspective of a fan of the program dominating since 2010, I’d say Ohio State has been 2nd best. I’d put Iowa in around 3/4.
I think Penn State will continue to dominate unless a Penn State wrestler or group of Penn State wrestlers that are all-timers become the new coaching staff somewhere that is willing to put the resources behind the program.
That’s hard to see happening anytime soon.
But if, for example, Pitt was committed to battling Penn State for wrestling supremacy and hired a staff of something like Cenzo and Nolf, I think they might at least challenge Penn State. Maybe Spencer Lee, with the right assistants, could do it too.
You have to do what Penn State did. Catch fire with a young coach that high schoolers grew up watching, and commit the resources. And then you have to be able to coach.

My reason for using Pitt was that they have the population and passionate high level WPIAL fan base to pack an arena, especially with a Pittsburgh area legend (e.g. Cenzo) running things.
