Can we change the tune/tone on this Pitt thing

Arguing about whether we should play them or not is irrelevant. The year is 2017, not 1980. They didn't join our conference and we can't unring that bell from 37 years ago. We play them this Saturday and our job is to beat the brakes off of them, and that's exactly what we are going to do.

Why is everyone on their best behaviour tonight, for God's sake, it's Pitt week!

Probably not. They have a large contingent of fans who are sick. They enjoyed what happened at PSU. If given the chance they wouldn't change what happened. It's very clear that they would gladly trade child sexual abuse if it meant that they could feel superior to Penn State. When a large part of their fanbase enjoys what happened there isn't anything you can do. It's sick.

If you look around the country to fans of schools they think what happened at PSU was a tragedy. They have empathy for the victims. Pitt fans look at it and see a victory for Pitt and themselves.

What happened at Penn State? Err, what? You mean what happened at a State-Administered Adoption Program, a State-Administered Foster-Parenting Program, a State-Administered Public School (Central Mountain High School) and a State-Licensed & -Regulated Charity which operated as a State-Actor "Agent" under PA CPS Law, don't you? What does Sandusky's accessing dozens upon dozens of children via State-Granted exclusive custody to these children via State-Imprimatur and Court-Ordered custody have to do with Penn State?

Hhhhmmmm, somebody doesn't like it pointed out that Penn State had nothing to do with Sandusky, a serial pedophile, accesssing, and being granted exclusive custody to, his child victims via State-Administered Adoption, State-Administered Foster-Parenting, State-Actor Public Schools (Central Mountain High School among many others) and a State-Licensed & -Regulated Charity which operated as a State-Actor "Agent" under PA CPS Law? Interesting, i wonder what that's all about? They get equally upset if you point out that The Pennsylvania State University had nothing to do with Sandusky's accessing of dozens upon dozens of children via State-Granted exclusive custody to these children via State-Imprimatur and Court-Ordered custody via direct State Agencies such as the PA DPW, now known as the PA Dept of Health & Human Services? Again, very interesting....

Proximity, recruiting, fan bases, and I hate to break it to you, history, make this game a rivalry no matter what any of we here say. Not to mention getting beat last year just escalated the vile taunts. As for me, they will always be the hated enemy...and deserved of all of our abhorrence.

Fixed that for ya. Every year that goes by the "rivalry" becomes more and more a relic of the past. Current students don't view it as anything different than playing Temple. They're much more focused on games against OSU, Michigan and I'll even say Maryland after the crap they pulled a couple years ago. The old timers can burn the torch as bright as you'd like and raise the banner on whatever you think the rivalry is or used to be, but as time moves forward and Pitt rotates off our schedule hopefully for the last time, we can finally start to ignore them and let their notoriety fall away.

As Oscar Wilde noted, "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."

I'm 41. I kinda remember the Pitt/PSU rivalry. I don't care about Pitt.
Pitt football is irrelevant.
Nothing good comes from PSU playing Pitt and we should never schedule them again.
Pitt football should be ignored.
That said, Pitt fans are delusional Aholes and are deserving of some attention when they show their colors.

In my perfect world, PSU hangs 100 on Pitt on Saturday and then cancels the remaining 2 games and states publicly that there is no reason for PSU to ever play Pitt again. That won't happen, so my next best scenario is we hang 100 on them this week, beat the snot out of them in 18 & 19 and then hope Sandy just forgets to return all phone calls from Oakland forever.

If we score 14 touchdowns for 98 pts and have a chance to kick a field goal with 3 seconds left to get it to 101, then DO IT.
I've always appreciated Woody's quote about the Michigan rivalry:

In the 1968 game, already up 42-14, Ohio State scored another touchdown. Woody then called for a two point conversion, which they converted. When asked why he did it, Woody said; "Because the rules won't let you go for three."

Can't wait for all the made up stories on how awful they were treated at the game, even though they never left their parents basements.

Oh, you know it's coming. They will have been urinated upon, vomited upon, and likely will have been fondled numerous times while in line.

I am an old timer who grew up in Pittsburgh and remember when this was the last game of the season and they were our big rival. Like many on this board I have family and friends who went to Pitt. When I was in high school Pitt was an expensive private school. They were in dire need of money when they received status as a "state related school". From that point they keep pressing the state (along with Temple) for more money and some of this money came at the expense of PSU. They were a good football program in the 30's, 40's 50's and early 60's. Then they hit a bump and became a joke in the late 60's and early 70's. After Major became Head Coach they regained elite status and won a MNC in 1976 (?) and this hurt. So I look forward to beating Pitt this year and every year but do not share the disrespect that other on this board do.

No, I don't think they are going to be made up this time. It would be deserved, based on the things I saw at Heinz field last year.

I have a great idea... let's just not schedule Pitt ever again.

This is the equivalent of Coke-Cola paying for and running commercials with taste tests against RC Cola. There are some "niche" people who probably prefer RC cola over Coke, just like there are fans of Pitt football. Having a brand like Coke challenge or compare themselves to RC Cola, only brings down Coke to the level of RC Cola or boosts RC Cola up to the level of Coke. There is nothing for Coke to gain here... RC Cola is insignificant to Coke and the small number of people who prefer RC Cola aren't going to impact Coke at all. The only people who seem motivated to see the Coke vs RC Cola taste test are the ones who live in the area where RC Cola does have some popularity or maybe they were alive when RC Cola was a more significant player in the cola industry. Sure, the Coke fans can brag about how they won the taste test over RC Cola, but this is generally expected and 8 out of 10 times Coke would win the taste test.

To be fair, maybe Penn State should be compared to Pepsi instead of Coke, but then again, Pitt football could be compared to A-Treat Cola as opposed to RC Cola. Either way, the comparison is relative.

Nailed it.
Pitt is the RC Cola of the College Football world!
No disrespect to RC Cola.

I wish I had the skills to create that meme.

It might even be more appropriate to compare them to Natrona (http://www.natronabottlingcompany.com/)
Regional. Local. Nobody outside of a 50mile radius cares or have never even heard of you.

I have had season tickets for 20 years. I guess even with that history I don't go back far enough to understand. There is no reason to spew venom towards another team (except Ohio state maybe).

In 1969, our team bus broke down on the way up Cardiac Hill to the Pitt Stadium. THEY THREW BEER ON OUR PLAYERS WHO WERE IN COATS AND TIES. There is no venom in my heart towards any school. PITT is the exception.

There is nobody in this country that enjoyed anything that came out with the Sandusky crap. NOBODY...

Go read the Lair. The majority of the posters there could not be any happier that it happened. They gloat about it every single day. It's utterly disgusting. They see it as a victory for Pitt and by extension themselves. They love that it happened. Any reasonable person who spent five minutes reading that board would see that and be disgusted. The Lair is filled with degenerates.

What kind of animals would waste perfectly good beer by throwing it on someone! At least when we want to defile visiting marching bands, we use bags of urine... which is the unwanted byproduct of beer. JK, hopefully that story is an urban myth and never happened.

The Lair dudes still get a woody when they talk about it. That's why they mention Sandusky at least once in every single thread.

The question remains, how do you fill a balloon with piss in the stands/stadium? Physical impossibility.

Go read the Lair for about 10 minutes then let us know the answer to your question.

I think I found a picture of the 5 most frequent posters on the Lair. I wouldn't mess with any of these guys if I saw them in public though. They look like they mean business!

Those guys make it so easy on us. Easy on us to enjoy beating them, easy on us to detest them, and easy on us to hope we never play them again.

Let them get their appearance money from some other team. We've done out bit to help them out.
