I just received this email, bolding is from me....

Penn State Wrestling Fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After a slow and uneventful offseason, we are ready to get things rolling again for the 2017-18 season. I have heard from several of you about the schedule etc. so I wanted to wait until it was released before I sent out my first update of the new year. With the Big Ten trying to figure out when they wanted to televise certain matches it really put a hold on the release of our schedule.

Before we get to this year though here is a quick update from this past summer. Mark Hall and Zain Retherford both competed in the World Championship for their respective age groups. Mark won his second straight Jr. (17-20yrs old) World Title in dominant fashion with a pin in the finals. Mark could have taken a break after winning an NCAA title as a true freshman but because of his goals to be a World and Olympic Champion he chose to train and compete throughout the summer. For Zain after an amazing college season he did not lose a beat and made his first Sr. Level World Team. At the World Championship he dominated his first round opponent but lost a very close match in the second round and because his opponent did not make the finals Zain was eliminated. Unlike wrestling in the United States where tournaments are double elimination, the international tournaments only have wrestle backs if the person that beat you makes it to the finals. With the pace that Zain wrestles it would be tough for anybody to have the stamina to come back and win several matches to make the finals. It was a great experience for Zain and he will be better for it moving forward.

This time of year we are allowed 2 hours of skill instruction and 6 hours of lifting and conditioning with the guys and that is going well. On October 10th we are allowed to begin our regular season practices with 20 hours a week with any combination of lifting and conditioning. Although none of it is mandatory in the summer most of the guys did a lot of training so they came back ready to go.

Our schedule is now finalized so we look forward to continuing to sell out REC Hall and the Bryce Jordan Center this year with eight home matches. We are also going back to the Keystone Classic in Philadelphia. The Keystone Classic allows our fans a short drive to watch the majority of our team wrestle multiple matches in one day. We will also have two guys wrestling in the All-Star classic this year for the first time in several years on November 5th at Princeton University. This is another opportunity to watch a couple of the guys compete at a high level very early in the season. It is going to be another exciting year with the potential for some new faces in our lineup. If there are questions you may have that I am willing to answer then I will include them on the next update. We look forward to seeing many of you in the near future.

Thank you for all the support.
