Palm is higher on the team than many here it seems and has Penn State 4th in his projected initial CFP rankings.

Penn St.

The Nittany Lions have grinded out wins against Pitt, Iowa and Michigan, and they have throttled the also-rans on their schedule to this point. Unlike most of the other teams near the top of these rankings, their defense is ahead of their offense. Penn State's strength of schedule is partly why it is this high in the rankings, and it is only going to get tougher. Three of the Nittany Lions' next four games are on the road and two of those are against the Big Ten's unbeaten teams, Minnesota and Ohio State. First, though, a trip to Michigan State this Saturday.

Aside from LSU, Penn State currently has the best resume when it comes to wins/schedule. That doesn’t take into account winning margin, style points, etc. So in that respect, you can make the case that Penn State would be top 4 right now. Does it end that way? Well, that’s why they play the games.

for this week - beat Sparty!!!!

Can be argued, obviously.

I’ve read a few people who believe the present resume is good to great. Not quite LSU’s but highlighting wins over a now 5-2 Pitt team and the Iowa/Michigan wins. Not many other teams are undefeated with similar resume.

spartan board has a whole thread you should go read about how that resume is the weakest a #6 ranked team has ever had.

Need LSU to run table and Bama to lose to Auburn. Possible. We’d have to go 11-1 with a good performance in Columbus.

Would need OU to lose Big 12 title game too

Until the NCbarfAA provides a genuine CFP.... don't watch. But I guarantee that if CFP is in this year, not a single one of us will that the discipline to do so. the 4 team CFP is an extension of the decades old joke call NCAA div 1 football. The only college sport that somehow (politics) cannot have a genuine playoff.

The NCAA has nothing to do with the playoff and never will.

Pitt winning out and beating Clemson in the acccg would work too. 11-1 with a win over a 2 loss acc champ would look good. Plus the irony of pitt putting penn state in the playoff would be fantastic. Bet some of their fans would root for Clemson in that scenario.

Heh I know fans of other teams can be smart people too but opinions are like buttholes - we all have one and they all stink!

But hey, weakest resume ever for #6 or not, our team is 7-0 and doing what it must to win every week. What’s their excuse?

Beating tosu in Columbus will be no small feat, but considering they haven’t played anyone with a pulse, I’m not sold on their invincibility either. In fact haven’t we seen them be the champions of October many times in the past, only to be revealed come December?

That said - Sparty, Sparty, Sparty.

They may not have an excuse. What they have however is the happiest and most personable coach the sport has ever seen.

Way early for this discussion.
Indeed. Especially for a young team a year ahead of schedule, still finding out who it is, disappearing 3rd quarter performances, lack of any catches from its x-receiver group, leaving too many big play opportunities on the field, and going to play an MSU team we were better than the last 2 years but still lost. Oh yeah, and the game is at their house where we haven't won since 2009 and they are coming off a bye week well rested, energized, and wanting to show we're not legit. Want to really show you're CFP worthy? Well, another opportunity is waiting for us.

Despite all the wishes, expectations, and hopes of our team's great fans, the growth of anything follows it's own path and timing. I'm sure Franklin and his coaches are working like crazy to get better based on the Michigan game's tape and their own eyes. Will the light bulb go on this weekend where we can get a complete performance? My sincere hope is they discovered something from the Michigan game where we see a powerful offensive performance and leave no doubt that we belong. If not, we'll again be dancing on the head of a pin.
