I do not understand Coach Ryan. When Tomasello's match ended with a Pin for the 3rd place match, he immediately went for an interview instead of going to back up his 133 lb wrestler Luke Pletcher. He missed at least the last minute and a half of the first period and 40 seconds of the second period talking about how he can crush the numbers needed for a Championship. Id be pissed if i was Pletcher or his parents...deserves better.

Just wants to see himself on Tv. Like a teenage girl...just wants to take selfies of herself.

Gota care more for your wrestlers...

The Brands bros get a lot of flack for acting foolish but no one could ever accuse them of not caring about their wrestlers or being slime balls, they are just kind of ignorant and lack self awareness. Tom Ryan is the biggest self absorbed D-Bag I have ever seen. It's pathetic how much he loves himself and the spot light. Can't believe Snyder promotes him as a good person/coach. Tan Tom is about as classless as it gets.

I can't go with you here. For all his non-Caelness and quirky, annoying behavior during competition, I have to believe Ryan is both a good person and coach. He wouldn't achieve the admiration and loyalty of his wrestlers otherwise, and certainly wouldn't field such an outstanding team year in and out.

Oh My God. D-Bag is right.....He just did it again....he waited in line behind another coach who was being interviewed during the whole second period of the Moore-Darmstadt match. Then the interviewer turned to him to interview him during the 3rd period. I have never seen a coach do something like that. Now he is talking about Luke Pletcher during the Moore match.

How would you feel if your coach walked over to get in line for an interview during your consolation finals match? And talked about other wrestlers.

Agree to disagree then. Dude is a slime ball and as a wrestling parent, the literal opposite of who I want my kid to wrestle for.

I like to make fun of him because A, it's so easy, and B, THE dumb school he works for, but I can't say I wouldn't want him to coach my kid. Seems like he really bonds with and cares about his kids. It's clear he thinks its his job to dictate the narrative with the media to an annoying degree, but I get the sense his kids would go to war for him, and he certainly produces impressive results. But, he's still a complete ninny, and I'll continue to poke fun ad (positive)infinitum.

Definitely not how Cael would have handled it.

I think you nailed it. I'm not a fan of his or his style... but his kids seem to love him, I like the style they wrestle (most of them)... Just don't like how he presents himself...

Agree with both of you. He creates a lot of excitement for his program and his kids love him. I don’t like his antics and I hope him challenging everything doesn’t come back to bite him tonight. I prefer Cael’s more calm demeanor and how it is reflected by our kids.

Great post pa....Gave you a like...There is ALWAYS some sneaky crap with Ryan....I would never want my son wrestling for him....Just the opposite type of man and value system of Cael ! Thank God we have him....

No need for Ryan, skinny jeans had it covered.

Can I ask you guys a serious question without getting into an online pissing contest?

How many of you actually know Tom Ryan personally? You seem very quick to point out his flaws; I saw someone refer to him as a bumbling idiot on a different thread.

As someone who was at HU when he was the coach, I can tell you firsthand, he really is a genuinely nice guy. Is he confident? yes! But he is not a douche by any stretch of the word.
If you spent a hour or two with him, I think you'd see that you have pegged wrong.

PSU was the better team and it showed...The title itself is enough gratification. Cheap shots are just unnecessary.

I called him a babbling idiot. And he is during his interviews. Doesn’t make him a bad person. Just makes him a babbling idiot

What I said on another thread re: possible reason for Nickal’s outburst:

If EFFIN Ryan, Jaggers, Stieber and rest of the naval gazing Buckeye Nation would stop with their incessant braggadocio, sunshine-pumping, and passive-Aggressive crap, then a Bo Nickal wouldn’t feel the need to go all Muhammad Ali on the mic.

It’s really not that hard to understand

couldn't have said it better. What happened to the pin chain?

OK.

If you guys have a valid reason for feeling the way you do, I respect that.

A lot of what you describe is just not the experience I had with the guy on the few occasions we spoke...And I can only go off of my own direct interactions.

Again, no dog in the fight....I like Tom, but in the same regard, my only exchange with the Sanderson family (Steve, Cael's father) was also very positive, so I hold a high opinion of him as well.

I just not a fan of "tan" comments or silly personal attacks. I find it better to just refrain from commenting at all. In the end, you won and that speaks for itself.

There are good idiots and bad idiots. The good idiots are the ones who know they are idiots and keep their mouths shut so others don't realize they are idiots. The bad kind of idiot doesn't realize he's an idiot, never shuts his damn mouth and thinks he's smarter than everyone else. Tom is clearly the latter.

Wise men speak because they have something to say. Fools speak because they have to say something.

Tom Ryan is a good human being. Multiple wrestlers have gushed about the positive influence he has had on their life and he has improved programs wherever he has been. What he has built at Ohio State is impressive. His style is different than Cael and crew, different strokes for different folks. He uses the lime light as a tool to build the hype around his program, in a way it’s smart, although it also rubs some the wrong way. He is a good person and good coach who we happen to enjoy beating, that is all. As a coach he would be an upgrade for nearly any program in the country with the exception of Penn State, NC State, Okie State, Edinboro, and SDSU.

Excellent and classy response....Thank you!

I consider the guy a friend (probably more of an acquaintance at this stage) and it's hard as someone who was treated well by him to not at least come to his defense.

And, as a Hofstra guy, please know that I would defend a guy like Vallimont just as much in recognition of his time on our bench.

Thanks for this post. We need not belittle the opposition to support our own. The proof, for me, about the truth of what you say is the fine group of young men who represent tOSU.

Being an anti-vaccer makes him a babbling idiot regardless of anything else he says or does.
