Coaches Radio Show - Tonight (1/29)

Berge situation seems very uncertain.
Cael spoke about wrestling being secondary to his health.
Joseph was pretty mundane, but had classic line when Ironhead commented that the experts have Iowa winning. Joseph said he "wasn't aware of that"with some light hearted voice inflection. The crowd got a good laugh about it.

Gotta assume he is done.
Cael said Berge would come back when he’s ready, and not before then. Cael talked as if he expects/hopes Berge would come back this season. Then he added a comment that it might not be this season. I would not rule anything out, yet, especially since I’m not a doctor, and especially since I don’t think Cael-ese is a normal, consistent language that can be learned.

Tough to see on the radio :), it was the smirk too, after this and some other answers. Young man is really laid back about everything.

I look at this way. Berge has wrestled 1 match this year. There are a little more than 5 weeks until B1Gs. Berge's only chance to qualify for NCAA's is at B1Gs, he will have to wrestle many matches there. NCAA is handing out 6th years like candy. Given all that, Berge is not wrestling this year.

One small caveat is if Berge has no interest in a 6th year, then he/Cael may be willing to roll the dice at B1Gs assuming physically/mentally he is ready to go.

Actually it is. See: "Suriano, Nick". He's out for the year.

Ha ha! About Suriano, Cael never said “it might not be this year”. So what does that mean? We can be like Vizzini and thoughtfully choose between both things it could mean, and we’d probably still fall down, dead wrong. :)

I spoke to Cael briefly after the show... I can tell you this with confidence. He remains very relaxed about the season. Not sure what that means, but there was zero stress in his attitude.

He knows, so why would he stress?

You can't win it every year. The kid can't go, then he can't go. The only thing that bugs me is why we continue to go with a 149 pounder at 157. Maybe we don't have anyone else who can go?

People do remember who last year’s Southern Scuffle runner up was at 157, right? I get that Bo tried for 149 this year, but it’s not like he has no business at 157. Shak is doing the same thing.

I have no idea if Berge is coming back this year but if I HAD to put money on it I'd go with no.

That means Bo Pipher gets to live the dream. He's the starter for PSU. The guy fights 100% every match. You have to love that.

He is handicapped because he is wrestling up a weight. Going into matches he has very little chance to win.

Tell that to Bo. He was runner up at the Scuffle last year at 157lbs. He lost to Jason Nolf in he finals. A guy that would have won the Scuffle if not for Nolf doesn't sound like a guy who has very little chance to win to me.
