Coaching strategy and adjustments

I do just make that comment in jest. However, I am good friends with Fred’s niece. For never being an athlete she looks like she could win an age class physique competition without trying. That being said she also had hands that resemble Larry Fitzgerald’s.

“Only” select matches. I think it’s 125, 133, 174, 184, 197 and HWT.

It was great to watch those again. There ain't nothing stopping this train short of injury or Covid.

PS - did you see Suriano's face after Kerk's match, it tells the story. He isn't the same guy he was at 133, and Michigan isn't even close to a championship. He made the wrong choice(s) - weight class, school, and no Spencer which surely is a good thing for this version of a sucked down Nick.

My money is on Vito taking him out.

I missed both of the BBs live (147 through 165, actually), so I was hoping they’d put them up, but no dice.

I’ll try to hunt down a few examples. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone try it this year, but definitely last year.
Phillippi tried it in the quarters of NCAAs last year and got majored for it. A few guys have tried it earlier this year too but quickly abandoned it once they realized it wasn't working. It's not really a good strategy unless you are as good/quick as RBY is. He makes it look like there's nothing to it

Yeah, Gross experimented with it a bit a couple of seasons ago but never really committed. Boo Dryden tried a really weak version of it. I know there is at least one better example, but maybe it is the Phillippi match I was thinking of.

Carone from Army tried it this season, as well as keeping the left elbow tucked on optional start, but with little success.

Gross 1 (late 1st period)
Gross 2 (brief, periodic hints at it)
Dryden (that ain’t gonna work, son)
Carone (A for effort)

And, now he knows …
What if Parris is next-level and only pretended to be unable to ride Kerk, to set a trap!?! :)

I was thinking, what if Cenzo had let Marinelli throw him a couple more times, and saved the lateral drop for the NCAA tournament? 🤔:)

If the dual meet was on the line, they may have made a different choice wit kerk. With the dual locked up it made total sense for Kerk to choose bottom. If he gets ridden out and loses, then in the Big or NCAAs they know his capabilities. Now if it’s a 0-0, 0-1 match when kerk has choice he knows he can go down and get out.
I dont get this idea that a 100% Kerk wouldnt be able to get out from under Parris. Parris might have 10 pounds on him at the most and same goes with Steveson and even the new and “improved” Cass.

Does anyone know what Parris weighed in at prior to the dual this past weekend? Serious question, he looked more than 10 pounds heavier than Kerkvliet. I could go back and listen to Jeff, but thought someone might know.

I hear Varner is pretty good on top, may have even taught Zain the bow and arrow (at least if we believe Zain).

Coaches had a pretty good idea how Kerk would be on bottom.

I would be shocked if he weighs less than 270 pounds. But I have no knowledge of actual weigh-ins. My eye is pretty good at guessing weights. I used to do it as a bar trick but stopped because my face kept hurting.

Parris weighed 255 last year.

Presumably he didn't get smaller during offseason strength training.

My thought too, though scales are more accurate than my eyeballing.

The last two or three matches he has weighed 240 give or take a pound or two, IIRC.

I think you have a book in you just waiting to be written

I’m pretty sure I heard that he weighed in at 254. Pretty much 15 lbs on Kerkvliet

Co-worker did that to the unpregnant girl who approved expenses. Expenses were a problem for him from then on.
LOL, don't mess with the accounting department when it comes to Expense Reports. See Dilbert cartoon when you are called in to explain your expenses and the seats are stalagmites.

As a career accountant it was always useful to remind staff that I not only paid off Expense Reports but I also did payroll.

Anyone else think Parris looked a bit tubbier than he did last year?
