The PRC
Columbia

Columbia was in a similar position to fellow Ivy, Penn, in the 18/19 season. Only one wrestler qualified for the NCAA tournament getting .5 team points (56th place). The Lions went 10-5 in duals with their biggest wins coming against Penn and Northern Colorado. Columbia finished 22nd at the Southern Scuffle and finished 11th out of 16 at the EIWA championship.

Last season, again like Penn, Columbia was an extremely young team with five true freshman starters. They are losing two senior starters from last season including their only qualifier. Unlike Penn, they don’t have as solid of an incoming recruiting class and it looks like they will have at least three new freshmen in the line up this season. It will probably be another tough season for Columbia but maybe the team will still improve compared to last season with another year of experience for their young starters.

Columbia has 14 duals scheduled this season highlighted by a trip to California to visit Stanford along with participating in the Roadrunner Open in beautiful Bakersfield. They will also be going to the Princeton Open, Patriot Open and Midlands.

Joe Manchio (So) < Seneca, NJ>

Manchio went 22-15 as a freshman last season. He just missed qualifying for the NCAAs, coming in 5th at the EIWA championships (4 allocations). Manchio had one win against a qualifier, Trey Chalifoux (Army). <Bonus 11.1%, RPI .574>

133
Angelo Rini (Fr) <St. Edward, OH>

Alec Kelly (Sr) <St. Peter's Prep, NJ> {Edit: added}
Rini placed three times at the Ohio D1 State Championship with his best result being 2nd in 2019 at 126. He was also the 2019 Junior Freestyle champion at 126.

Kelly was the starter at 133 in 16/17 and went 11-15. He didn't wrestle last season.

141
Matthew Kazimir (So) <St. Edward, OH>

It looks like Kazimir is moving up to 141 after going 18-5 in his freshman year as the starter at 133. He went 1-2 in the EIWA championships and didn’t have any wins versus other qualifiers. < Bonus 47.8%, RPI .531>

Yet another freshman starter last season, Danny Fongaro went 16-13 and didn’t qualify for the NCAAs. He was 1-2 at the EIWA championships and had one win against a former qualifier, Pat D’arcy. Fongaro is taking an Ivy redshirt/grayshirt this season.

149
Cole Corrigan (So) <Toms River South, NJ>

The fourth starting freshman in a row last season, Corrigan went 14-12 and didn’t qualify for the NCAA tournament. He went 0-2 at the EIWA championships and didn’t have any wins against NCAA qualifiers. <Bonus 26.9%, RPI .536>

157
Riley Jacops (Jr) <Vandegrift, TX>

Jacops went 12-10 last season backing up Corrigan at 149. His best win was against Corrigan at the Scuffle. <Bonus: 9.1%, RPI: .511>

Last season, outgoing senior Dan Reed qualified for the NCAAs for the first time placing 6th at the EIWA championships (6 allocations). His overall record was 28-10 and he was 1-2 at the NCAA championships from the 27 seed.

165
Kyle Mosher (Fr) <South Side, NY>

With Laurence Kosay taking an Ivy redshirt, Kyle Mosher will be another freshman starter for the Lions. Mosher is Columbia’s highest ranked recruit coming in this season. He won his first New York state championship as a senior @160 and came in 3rd at Walsh Ironman 2018.

Last season Laurence Kosoy, in his 3rd year as a starter, had his best season going 26-11 but it wasn’t enough to qualify for the NCAAs. He placed 7th at the EIWA championships (4 allocations) and didn’t have any wins versus qualifiers.

174
Lenox Wolak (Fr) <Dublin Coffman, OH>
Garrett Bilgrav (Fr) <Robbinsville, NJ>

Wolak’s best finish was 4th at the Ohio D1 state championship @182 his junior year.
Bilgrav placed 7th at the New Jersey state championship @170 his senior season.

Last season, outgoing senior Max Elling went 22-15 but didn’t qualify for the NCAAs. He placed 8th at the EIWA championships (5 allocations).

184
Joe Franzese (So) <John Glenn, NY>

Franzese went 9-11 backing up Brian Bonino last season. He didn’t have any wins against wrestlers with winning records. <Bonus: 30.0%, RPI: .508>

I'm not sure if Brian Bonino is also taking a year off or if he is done with wrestling (he has one year of eligibility left). He went 12-15 last season and didn’t qualify for the NCAA tournament. He placed 8th at the EIWA championships but had a couple of wins against qualifiers, Tom Lane (Cal Poly) and Kevin Parker (Princeton), who he also lost to twice.

197
Sam Wustefield (So) <Scotch Plains Fanwood, NJ>

Wustefeld went 9-17 last season and 1-2 at the EIWA championships. <Bonus: 11.5%, RPI: .468>

Heavy
Daniel Herman (Jr) <Wyoming Seminary, PA>

Herman went 11-13 last season and placed 8th at the EIWA championships. He had one win against a qualifier, Jacob Aven (Purdue).

Was disappointed last year that Columbia didn't rate enough to merit a Cali preview. Even though they only sent one guy (Dan Reed) to Nationals last year the team improved on the whole, especially 165 and down. The team is far more entertaining than they've been. The young guys who didn't qualify last year have real upsides.

Dan Reed had some decent wins last year and climbed into the top 20 a few times, but was just as likely to lose 12-10 as he was to win by the same score. Went 1-2 at Nationals.
