Conel tweeted

Unfortunately, Gross> RBY and if we do bring him in RBY will have no choice.

Going on record, Im against bringing these guys in, i just think it looks bad, and some of the kids Cael made promises to may feel slighted. Do we REALLY need them?

Well, you might as well just get used to it because you're going to see a lot more of it now that the NCAA has opened the flood gates on transfers. Truth be told I'm not a big fan of it, either even though PSU will likely be the biggest beneficiary being that we are on top of the mountain and thus the most desirable program. This is the world we live in. Cael, Ryan, Smith, Morningstar, Dresser, etc. will all go hard after transfers they feel can add value to their programs. If they didn't, they wouldn't be doing their jobs.

The best part of all of this is Lugo and DeSanto are transfers and were scoring wrestlers at B1G and will be likely at NCAA and part of the Iowa 2020 Hype train, but I assume HR will conveniently forget that.

Hell even smalls is mocking their idiocy. Ole Vodka, what am I saying that isn't logical? A genius in his own mind. Who would have ever thought HR would be taken over by whiners. The best free entertainment on the Web.
well, no one wants to sit the bench. Captain Obvious? They don't have anyone over there (who didn't xfer out) sitting on the bench??

Late to the thread, but how can anyone question Cael adding another AA to the roster.

When kids sign on to wrestle at PSU, Cael doesn't promise them 4 years in the starting line-up. As Nick Nevills said. I knew what I was getting into when I decided to come to PSU.

that could be true, but your bench transfers and someone gets injured and you're in a PSU 125 situation (as far as winning %). Probably fair to the kids but am not sure I like it. Would like to teach commitment since a lot of parents don't these days... just lookin' around :(

Like they conveniently forgot Gfeller being perhaps negatively impacted by injury, but injuries were clearly the cause of Warner’s early struggles.

I guess the only downside would be that if Beard is objectively better than Conel, Conel starting would hurt the team's chances at a national title. But since that's certainly a factor the staff would weigh before making the decision on who to start (probably the biggest factor, alongside Beard's future more generally) it seems needless to opine now about who should start in 2020, except to say that if Conel gives us the same chance at the weight as Beard would, Conel should start b/c we get an extra year of Beard. Which seems obvious unless I'm missing something.

I remember a day when Nolf Nickal and Zain were all better than the starter but look what a redshirt year created. I will never argue with a Cael coordinated redshirt and kinda wish Lee or RBY could get one to (say your Seth Gross prayer here).

If the kid can manage the waiting and the financial hit, career wise it's all upside. We'll see if Mark takes one this year Oly.

It kind of sucks for us impatient fans for sure, but it can be huge for the wrestlers. I am a total homer but think both Berge and Brooks' have the makings of a multi time national champion. No disrespect to VJ since he is only half way and very well may be that guy, but I have a feeling our first 4x guy will come in to win his first as a RS freshman.

PS - Kyle if you are out there reading out reaction:

1. You are a huge stud and will be even better with Cael's coaching
2. You already have a special place in or hearts for what you did last year (twice)
3. We are spoiled with a parade of riches and can lose sight of what's important from time to time
4. Welcome - we are - we would love to have you!!!!!

Yep, agree.

Geno, Gingrich, Nevilles and McCutcheon sit for the team... not forgotten though... thanks guys. The cesspool (appropriate name) will never understand.

I have total faith in Cael, our coaches & our trainers.

We may have all posted Good for BigTens, but we’re peaking now and we will all post Great for Nationals.

Key to success is that we all just post to seed this week and we’ll dominate the boards. Heck, 2 or 3 of us could even post below seed and we’ll still win by a comfortable margin. Eye on the prize.

These arent walk- ons we’re talking about here. Are you really telling me that you think Cael made no promises to the guys we are giving partial or full rides too?? Cmon
Are you saying that Cael said he wouldn’t recruit anyone else at their weight? I find this hard to believe. And, I’m not sure I would want someone on my team who was afraid to compete....

Is that cast in stone? Wrestling schedules tend to be last minute affairs. No reason it could not be held off a year.... or two. Regardless, it will happen before Iowa schedules their return visit to Penn State.

Regardless, you don’t base a kids entire season on one dual meet , that would never guide a redshirt decision

I don't know who will be the starter next year at 197 but I know two things:

1. They'll be a title contender
2. They were NOT promised anything in regards to the spot

Particularly funny was that grayshirts don't understand economic opportunity cost because they forgo a scholarship while deferring enrollment.
It's like they don't understand what deferred enrollment is. There is no school expense if you aren't enrolled in school.

Regarding Conel, if Beard and family, the team, and the staff is ok with bringing him in for a year, so am I. I wouldn't risk losing Beard over it though.

If Conel and Shak get their extra years and Brooks and Beard redshirt, it's going to a lot of f*n watching Beard and Brooks together their 4 years. Keep reloading the murderers row.

Add Cassar’s 6th year and Nevills in with Brooks and Beard for 4 years together...plus Starocci RSing next year while Hall finishes his SR year...fun times ahead!

This one tweet got one poster on the G forum all riled up. I will give them credit, not they care for it or want it from me, but I liked that a few of them told the guy to save it, in terms of references to Ped St, etc.

Forgot about Nevills and Starocci. Depending on how the other weights fall into place, we might be talking "Is this the best PSU team ever" again some time the next 5 years. Fun for us, scary as hell if your an opposing team.

I mean Gross has to go to Wisconsin right? I mean, come on, this can’t be real life.

If Brooks, Beard, Nevills and Joe Lee all redshirt next year along with Starocci…..the back half of the lineup for the following 4 years will be Joe Lee, Starocci, Brooks, Beard and Nevills. I'll watch :). I also think that Manville will make a strong challenge for a spot in there. The front half with Brody, RBY, Howard, Verk and Berge and another year of Nick Lee plus whomever else joins the squad will be a very solid and fun lineup to watch. The future needs shades :)

An abdunce of riches to say the least, that’s before we even realize Cael and Casey’s kids get a free ride and won’t count against scholarships after that. ;)

I hope HR doesn’t find out that Cael has been legally adopting wrestlers since David Taylor. Cael has more children than ten Angelina Jolies. The joke is on HR—there never was a slush fund. :)

What are the chances Brady B skips 157 and goes straight to 165? If his cut is as tough As some have suggested and Cenzo moves up for his final year (Wreck Hall Oly RS?) it would allow Cenzo to finish his career up a weight for a year. May be more comfortable for him and allow for some extra curricular fun.

The funniest part to me is the blaming of Cael for seedings when his doesn't sit on any committee making those decisions.
Don't you understand? Seeding JoJo Smith 33 was an evil deed manufactured by former Iowa Hawkeye wrestler and alumni, and current Ohio State head coachTom Ryan to benefit Penn State and Cael at the expense of Iowa, Brands and Marinelli.

Geez. It is so obvious.

To be completely accurate, employees' kids get 3/4 tuition discount.

Point still taken.

I told Casey that Dunk, you and I would pretend to be Casey brothers (or in my case Uncle) and pick up that 25% so no Casey's won't count towards the scholarships. Don't tell Vodka though. The thought that knowledge might cause that head to explode is more than I could personally handle.

Let’s not let them forget PD3. But that history has now been rewritten as Tom holding to his ethics and not allowing PD3 to join the team.
