Gotta go to Colorado Springs in Feb. Going to try and get 2-3 days of skiing in first. So want to be semi close to Denver airport, then Colorado springs.... any suggestions between Copper, Keystone or Breckenridge. They seem like the 3 who geographically fit my requirements.

Loved breck. Really cool town. Lots of good restaurants and bars. Mountain was great

Headed to Estes Park and then Breck in 2 weeks. Can't wait for the trip. Lived in CO for 2 years in the 90s, miss it every day.

Lived in CO for 7 years. Stay in Breck, but ski Copper.

This begs the question, did the OP mean Cooper (what he typed, and is a ski resort in the general area), or Copper (a more popular ski resort also in the general area).

In any event, IMO depends on how much OP cares about the actual skiing experience, but I agree with you.

Breck has by far the best town - restaurants, bars, shops, nightlife, etc. Personally though, I'd much much rather ski or snowboard Keystone or Copper (never been to Cooper).

Edit: I see now that he wrote "Copper" in the body of his post, so my guess is that's what he means and Cooper was a type-o.

Hmmmmm, may I suggest none??

Ski Park City Utah or Lake Tahoe Nevada.

Just a thought.

You can't go wrong with Breck IMO.

Been to the Park City area several times. Deer Valley is actually our yearly ski trip "go to" location. Me & Family have been to Deer Valley / PC last 5 straight years & love it. Feel it's the absolute best hands down.

That being said, those are not an option for this trip. I have to be in Colorado Springs, CO the 2nd weekend in Feb. Colorado Springs is approx 70 miles SE of Denver, so I am specifically looking for a location close enough to CO Springs to give me 2-3 days of good skiing, then a fairly easy drive. I don't want to be spending a ton of car time.

Brek, Copper, Keystone all seem like decent commutes from Denver Airport, and then down to Colorado Springs.

Just having fun with your typo......you know you can edit your title and get “Cooper” back to “Copper”!

Based on everything I am getting, think I am leaning towards Copper. Guy I would be making this trip with is just a moderate level skier. He is a very solid "blue" slope type. Some others I know & trust tell me that Copper is probably going to be the best for him because one side of their mountain is very friendly for the moderate level skier. I figure if the skiing is better at Copper in terms of skill level & crowds, then we can always Uber over to Brek for restaurants & pubs.

Heads up, major widening of I-25 between the Springs and Denver. Adding significant time to the commute.

I would most likely fly into Denver. Then go from Denver to either Copper or Brek. After 2-3 days of skiing at one of those locations, drive from there down to Colorado Springs... would I be hitting that construction??

Breck ... But be aware Breck altitude is high and you will feel it. You go all the way up you will be above 13K ... Almost half way up Everest... You will feel it

Does not compare to Taos....in the Village if I recall base is 10,000' and the top is 13,000'. First time there I was gasping just bringing luggage into the condo.

I live in Co Springs, and yes there's traffic from major work on the interstate between the Spings and Denver. As for the skiing, I agree as above that Breck is the best town for staying, but I have a pass for Copper every year and it's my favorite in the area. Lines at Breck can be painful, especially on weekends. Copper has tons of great terrain and amenities, and they've built three lifts in the past two years. Have fun.

From Breck CO 9 to US 24 takes you through the back country. Very beautiful and the roads are good BUT it’ll be February so weather dependent. If you go I 70 to 470 then I 25 yeah you’re going to hit it.

Copper.

Breck is great to visit though.

why not go off the beaten path down/over to Monarch ski area? Good mountain, its 2.5 hrs from Colorado Springs airport, as is Breckenridge.

I have had season passes at both Keystone and Copper the last 40 years but decided to hang up my skis this season. Both have long runs that you can get some serious vertical, distance and speed on. Breck is a great party and restaurant town, however Frisco, Dillon, and Silverthorne also have some great bars and restaurants. You can get worn out quickly at either resort. This was a typical day for me, ski 10 runs straight and get a beer.

With all the mentions of Ski Cooper I thought I'd point out that Cooper is where the historic 10th Mountain Division trained during World War 2.

Warren Miller entertainment produced a very good documentary on the 10th called "Climb to Glory". It features Chris Anthony. Well worth a look. Watching great modern skiers try to ski on the old 10th mountain division ski equipment is especially entertaining.

I liked skiing at Keystone because they had lights/night skiing. Works great if you don't get an early start. Or you can take a nice break to recharge and go back out when the slopes are less crowded.
