County map of Favorite CFB team (link)

You see way more PSU stuff around SWPA than you do Pitt stuff. This linked map is flawed.

EDIT: here is a more accurate version

I’d bet it’s pretty flawed. UCLA has pretty much no support in Southern California compared to SC. Virginia Tech owns all of Virginia other than a small pocket for UVA? I know the South Carolina Gamecocks are more popular in SC but owning that much of the state with just a small part of the upstate for Clemson?

I love this kind of stuff, and when I first saw this post I got excited thinking the NYT did an updated version from the data they pulled in from 2014. Crazy to think this was completed 5 years ago. (Right around when the sanctions were lifted if I'm remembering correctly)

Anyways, "social media" fans are fickle... they're the definition of band wagoners... S. Carolina still had Spurrier running the show in 2014, and the buzz he created has since worn off. (Especially considering their hated instate rival has won 2 national titles since these maps were configured.)

A similar resource I can lose track of time messing with is "Google Trends"

Here's a query showing Penn State Football and Ohio State Football compared to each other over the past year with reference to google searches about each topic.

Google Trends

As far as the New York Times map goes, they need to update it. I'd love to see how our B1G title & Fiesta Bowl win added to our social media presence. I can get lost in this meaningless college football data for days.
