Current PSU Recruits & Commits news

Asher Cunningham is so good. I think he will be a national contender at PSU. He teched Hutcherson 15-0 but then went and teched Bode Marlow 18-0. He dominated Marlow.
Cunningham has a ton of college potential.

The problem for him, aside from direct lineup competitiom: he can be too reliant on scrambling. He's awfully good at it, but that should be secondary to good shots and clean finishes.

But every incoming freshman has things to work on. Glad he'll be on our team.

Why Marcus Blaze is the P4P #1 in America

I don't think any high school wrestler has ever put together a list of defeated opponents that matches Blaze's. I mean Jimmy Carr beat like 1 former NCAA champ at Midlands when he was a junior in high school. How many did Kolat beat when he was at a similar age?

And some folks think Mendez can beat him?!?!

AA 139 Round of 16 - Sam Herring (Bishop McCort) VS Braden Durst (Berlin Brothersvalley)

Tying up & circling. Herring shoots & gets a leg, Durst works hard to fight him off, but Herring keeps working & finishes the TD, 3-0. Herring lets Durst up, 3-1. Durst shoots, but Herring counters for another TD, 6-1. Herring hits a tight waist tilt & adds 4 NF, 10-1. Herring gets Durst bellied out & then hits another tilt. Ironman finals in Dec. Henckel won 15-12 SV. Cunningham got out to a 7-0 lead but hit the wall.

I had never seen either of these great prospects wrestle until I watched this. Wow! What a match! Henckel has a gas tank....plus. We have some real studs coming in. I know we have a log jam of talent, but it will all sort it self out and we obviously have a bright future ahead.

I got pulled away by a neighbor & just got back. Here's Dalton...

AAA 145 Round of 16 - Dalton Perry (Central Mountain) VS Jared Gonzelez (Notre Dame GP)

Period 1:
Perry quickly gets to a leg, elevates it & trips Gonzelez to the mat for the TD, 3-0. Perry looks for a turning combo on the edge, then they go out of bounds, restart. Gonzelez is still down. Perry cuts Gonzelez, 3-1. Perry picks an ankle on the edge, then comes behind for another TD, 6-1. Out of bounds & restart. Gonzelez is still down. Perry goes optional start & gives up the escape, 6-2. Gonzelez shoots, Perry counters & locks up a cradle. Perry takes Gonzelez to his back & gets the 1st period FALL!!!

Dalton Perry FALL Jared Gonzelez (1:01)

AAA 172 Round of 16 - Asher Cunningham (State College) VS Matty Shumaker (Methacton)

Period 1:
Asher snaps & tries to come behind. Shumaker counters & gets a leg. Asher wraps around the head, similar to the Bo Nickal & Martin pin setup. Asher keeps scrambling & gets a leg. He keeps working & comes behind for the TD, 3-0. Asher throws in a boot & is looking for a turn. Asher cuts Shumaker, 3-1. Shumaker shoots, Asher counters & comes behind for another TD, 6-1. Asher throws in a boot & turks Shumaker to his back for 4 NF, 10-1. Asher cuts Shumaker, 10-2. Shumaker shoots & gets deep in on a leg. Asher counters & gets to an ankle. They're scrambling & Asher locks up a cradle while securing the TD, 13-2. Asher adds 4 NF before Shumaker breaks free & that's the TECH!

Asher Cunningham TF Matty Shumaker 17-2 (1:40)

Next victims:

Herring: quarters vs. NE-2 Matthew Almedina (Mid-Valley JR, 44-9). They've never met, but the common opponents comparison is heavily in Herring's favor. Expect bonus.

Perry: quarters vs. SC-2 Ian Longenberger (Boiling Springs JR, 43-7). They've never met. Common opponent results are fairly similar. Perry should win, and probably win comfortably, but might not run away with this one.

Cunningham: quarters vs. NE-3 Shane McFillin (Bethlehem Catholic SR, 41-9). McFillin placed S4 last year and is headed to Bucknell. Again, they've never met. Comparables in their first 2 years leaned toward McFillin; in the past 2 years, toward Cunningham. Asher has more offense, and should win comfortably.
