133 lbs | No. 4 Luke Pletcher (Ohio State) def. Casey Cobb (Navy) | D, 7-4; TS: 20-9

Even the Buckeyes know the deal. But, they appear to be marketing is as toughness.
“Picking up where he left off during the 2017-18 season, Luke Pletcher grinded out a 7-4 decision over Casey Cobb at 133 pounds. Eighteen of his 30 wins a year ago came by three points or less.”

Surprised by McKenna result.

More evidence of Buckeye Groundhog Day:

"Campbell then held on for an 8-5 decision."

he looked like he was dragging a bit. Perhaps from wrestling in Colorado the night before. If it was a weight issue, then he might be in trouble...

Whatever. I can't too worked over those statements. Pletcher isn't exciting but he has a style/approach that works for him and has served him well. If he tried a more wide open approach with more risk-taking, I doubt he would be as successful.

Campbell almost got decked in that match.

He’s up to 174 - he’s allowed to eat an occasional heeseburger this season.... can’t blame poor results this year on his (lack of) gas tank.

Pick a weight. Let him wrestle the weight he is that day and make his opponent make weight after that day's weigh in. The kid still isn't going to have gas in the tank at the end. Some kids for multiple different reasons can not build a big enough gas tank. Campbell is one of these kids. At least IMO.

Impossible to make any conclusion after one bout. Watched the dual, and it was good for the Buckeyes for what it was...first dual of the year, against an overmatched opponent, with several likely end-of-year starters (and one guy we know is starting) not wrestling. Re. 141, I agree, McKenna did wrestle the day before and it's a likely factor. Gil's no slough though, so there's that, and I don't believe weight is an issue for McKenna. He won with no takedowns, getting 2 escapes and a RT point for riding out the entire 3rd.

This board can’t help but talk about EVERYTHING Ohio State... lol. It’s quite comical.

It does get quite comical. I've laughed out loud reading some osu stuff. Carnival barker with cauliflower ears was my favorite.Thank you CMT. Watching last years dual always makes me smile,Kent St guy at NCAAs, wrestle offs and weight shuffles where the loser gets Zain or Nolf, bringing hell with them, etc. All funny stuff.

tOSU has a board?
Yes, and here's a beauty from it...

"Refs are quick to call stalling against him in the neutral position because he's always backing away. Apparently he's trying to maintain space so he can hit his blast double. The Navy wrestler kept coming forward and Campbell kept backpedaling. That was similar to what happened most of last year."

I’m sure you can differentiate the talking about Ohio State and Iowa, you know like how adults would do in that scenario, or constantly make fun of, name call, and berate the school and it’s participants like middle schoolers would(do).

HUGE DIFFERENCE.

And no, Ohio State doesn’t have a board as mighty and great as yours...that is true. That is a fact.

But I can PROMISE you there is no making fun of Penn State and it’s wrestlers.. the only thing discussed about Penn State is how to catch up with them.

The nice part about Ohio States main board, even with its limited traffic, is all it’s members must use their real names and be verified to post.

No hiding behind keyboards making fun of 18 year old kids and their performances.

What’s even worse is I like this board... just don’t understand why this occurs especially considering you are the bar.

I have met, conversed with, and even had a beer with several Penn State fans, in particular wrestling fans over the years. In all my experiences, it’s been all class, all the way each time. Impressive considering the bragging rights there for the taking.

I can GUARANTEE you the fans I’ve met and their character absolutely cringe when they see Penn State represented the way some of you do on here. I get the funny banter, I do. But my goodness man... you would 100% think the results the past 8 years would be in reverse between the 2 schools with the way each other are talked about on each other’s respective boards.

I’ve said my peace... carry on.

Don't flatter yourself. Throwing shade at tOSU probably comes in third... after Iowa and Rutgers. At least tOSU didn't lose to Lock Haven.

And the 'not how we would do it' line was a classic. That was good for some laughs.

Lock Haven is pretty good. If Cael had given Scott Moore a ready trained NCAA finalist the Bald Eagles would have actually been a top 10 program. They would have finished 7th.

It’s the nature of sports message boards. And in some respects, despite the tendency of some, I kinda like it as it’s true free speech free for all. It’s just words at the end of the day. Get used to it. That said the non-anonymous nature of the osu wrestling board goes a long way toward keeping things civil. For causal proof, compare it to any other osu board.

Bo was flat too.
And he’s a raging dickbag.

Bo is a fantastic wrestler, but a huge douche.

Penn State are arrogant ass holes I know they are the best but act like champions not punks

The main reason I rag on Ohio State is that it's in Ohio. I mean, really. . . . . :D

Meh, meh, meh...and I honestly mean that. Guys and gals that are that far out there are the easiest to ignore...their words speak volumes about their character, and those that feel a need to respond end up coming across just as juvenile. We have ours, btw...

That thread was very civil and adult until the semis. The finals were the best.If Bo is such a hotshot he should wrestle snyder was the best
Same folks who excused Snyder's loss to Coon as being due to weight ...

It’s the quantity that is seen and read on here I’m referring to. Of course fan bases will talk some smack. But there’s even a thread relative to this subject over on the Mat with several posters not Ohio State or Penn State fans and the majority agree...you sometimes come across as the spiteful, jealous fan base by some of the juvenile stuff said,.. and my god it’s the complete opposite. Ohio State should be that school with the most recent results.

Like I said you guys are the bar. You would think you guys would be completely complimentary of everyone because you’ve been a dynasty the past 8 years or so.

That’s all I’m saying. I obviously understand this isn’t going to go over well here, so I apologize for even mentioning it... on here.

I guarantee you though there are some posters that lurk on here who agree with what I’m saying.

There are fans, there are alumni who tend to be more pleasantly oriented and congenial.

Had your school been through what Penn State alums, students, team members, coaches and fans in general with the sanctions and the reason for them you would never post what you did. The abuse heaped on PSU was universally so below the bar and completely disgusting that is can't be described in any real manner. You had to experience it to realize what the crime of a retired man can do to the innocent numbers of those associated with the school if not for only wearing the colors, my what a sin. Concepts I've not heard prior to 2011 verbalized, hurled, typed and shot at our fan base regularly for years and still happening to a lesser degree yet far more than you would realize. That is the point, from your perspective you can't live there and hear the abuse of the past or present. So you concentrate on the rantings of some juvenile message board posters. True but nothing to what we experienced and yes, some of the worst by the Buckeyes as well. Not as likely by alumni but the drunken and not drunken fans who perceive college sports as an extension of the pro versions.

Short version, walk a year or so with our ears, hearing the abuses and then reassess our sins. I'm not excusing anything but I am expressing a mutual frustration and disgust at the rest of this conference and some members in particular which majored in abuse during our darkest time. Lectures on civility to Penn State nation is downright silly. We can forgive but we can't forget.

I'm not a huge fan of Ohio State because they're Ohio State, but very little of that has anything to do with their wrestling program. I think Ryan occasionally says something stupid and I don't care for the style of all of their wresters, but yeah, they're well down the list of teams and coaches to dislike. And all of that said, the OP mentioned Luke Pletcher's performance and his penchant for winning close matches. I don't like the kid's style at all, but he is a decent person and a good competitor and for that reason I'm mostly a fan (when he's not wrestling PSU). Keep in mind that I think Pletcher wanted to attend PSU pretty badly and he just didn't get the offer or the attention that he had hoped for and you can't hold that against him.

I think all of the Buckeye wrestlers seem like good enough guys. It is Ryan who brings the ridicule with his snide comments and camera mugging all the time. If he would focus less on self/team promotion then maybe he wouldn't be so easy to ridicule.
