Delta Chi Assault

I don’t know anything about the legal definition. I do know I’ve seen more than one incident like that without charges. When both sides are swinging it’s not assault to me.

I have faith Franklin will take care of punishing them. This is effing stupid. Regardless if TCF and Parsons are defending themselves or teammates it is so incredibly stupid to be in this situation. Like beyond comprehension. If there are charges involved I call race card, because there is nothing there that should result in the courts being involved.

Thank the Lord we don't have a that tough of a week 1 game, but like this type of crap can get you suspended and could result in an L that keeps you out of the playoff if the schedule weren't soft. So incredibly stupid!

No, but based on the video we have, there are really only two fair outcomes: charge everybody on both sides or charge nobody. I think in those situations the best thing to do is to charge nobody.
So, let's say you go to someone's house and start a fight and they defend themselves. No one gets charged with anything? Not saying that's what happened here, but it could be.

Can’t disagree with that

Even if they were launching mostly windmill punches and sissyslaps, this was pretty dumb. Probably could have been much worse. Someone falls and cracks their head, and its aggregated assault or worse.

How often?
Not very often, but your point is dumb: this isn't a hockey game or any other kind of organized sport. This is a group of scholarship athletes either starting or participating in a brawl at a place where they obviously shouldn't be. Hopefully, nothing serious comes of this, but it is dumb beyond belief. If this happened at OSU, we'd accuse them of favoring the football team if there was no punishment.

I think, under the new policy, this kind of activity is out of CJF's purview and is now handled by the Office of Student Affairs. Franklin can always hand out his own punishment, but he isn't the sole arbiter.

If that's the extent of it, I can't see anyone getting kicked off the team.
I agree. Not with the severity of the altercation. Heck, I've seen bigger fights in a sixth grade hallway over the years. Honestly, that was a push/shove/few punches.
Like you said, Camelot, if this is the extent, I can't see anyone getting tossed from the team. Like was posted here; get the buckets ready for the 5:00 a.m. "reminders" on how to behave, sit the first half of game one, and don't be stupid again.
Let's hope there's no additional video.

So if it was organized you’d be OK with it? Gotcha.

That's why it's good it happened at a fraternity. They're the only group more loathed by the SJWs than athletes.

I heard is was all instigated by Stevens, Clifford, Levis, Johnson and Robertson. All will be kicked off the team and we will run the wildcat exclusively next season.

Which is really the way it should be, in my opinion.

Football players at PSU (at least when I was there - not sure if it is the same now) were always in a tough spot. (All of this has to do with when I was there)
(1) they were very segregated from the rest of the fraternity scene because of their living arrangements/rules and schedules. Some houses had a good rapport with some of the athletic teams because of reciprocity and members being in that house and on a team. This was not the case with the FB team.
(2) Football players (in particular) get sh*t on constantly by loser fans. I have several memories of my time at PSU at Mike's Video, Uni-Mart, etc. where players are getting harassed by nerds half their size. Then there are always the coulda-shoulda-been-intramural/gym-tough-guys looking to start stuff.
(3) When the FB team gets to go out and party - (again at least when I was there) - they went all out (think sinks getting ripped out of walls, etc.). There was always a hot potato debate amongst the wet fraternities on who was going to throw the football party

From my own personal experience, and without any info on how the scene in the video played out, I would stereotype this incident as quite common when I was there:
Fraternity throws a big party
Rules of that house were that unless you knew someone there (and you're a guy) you're not getting in - and even if you know someone there, you're probably not getting in with a bunch of other guys
Giant misunderstanding
Beer muscles
Someone throws a punch
More misunderstandings as people go to break it up
Some kid (usually not the idiot who started the fight) gets his orbital bone cracked or a broken nose that won't stop bleeding because of alcohol - or wants to file charges - and what could've been a funny "remember that time Shmitty started a fight with 10 football players" turns into a 5 alarm fire

Regardless of what the Office of Lack of Due Process (Student Affairs) decides, Franklin needs impart some wisdom to these guys. I have a feeling he is well experienced in handling such lesson plans.

How did Shmitty start the fight when 10 uninvited people showed up at HIS house and demanded entry? CAn you tell us proper way to handle it? Should they call the police? Football coach? PRESS? Maybe uninvited students should not trespass.

Because Shmitty jumped one of the 10 uninvited people a couple of months ago, and now they brought friends back around to kick Schmitty's a** for his previous actions

It has been a while since I went to a frat party ... aren't the events open door? So they selectively try to turn away a small group? Which results in some hurt feelings?

Maybe Shmitty roofied one of the guy’s female friends? Lots of assumptions at play

Is that the "college guys can punch each other" exception to the assault statute?
There isn't, but if both parties are throwing punches, it is rare that charges are going to go anywhere unless it is clear that one party was merely defending themselves.
Always a list back in my day.
Lists starting in the early 1990s. When I first got to PSU you could just drop the name of the brother you knew and they'd probably let you in (especially if it wasn't a large group of guys), although it depended on the house. Then they went to a list system, which made it almost impossible to get in (as a guy, anyway) if you weren't on the list.

Apparently a bunch of the freshmen players were there as well. Lots of chatter coming from the students on campus.

Well it wasn't going to be 21+ players who could just go to Mad Mex and get a marg
