Ellies, Izzard, Vanover got pushed around. Nice DTs but could not hold up having a big RB and what seemed like a hundred Illinois OL come at them all day. My opinion Vanover, Izzard, and Ellies were a little to small to handle that pounding. Tangelo didn't get pushed around as much because he is thicker, bigger, stronger.

My question.....knowing Illinois was running almost every play where was Hansard or Mulbah? Doesn't matter if Hansard isn't the fastest we could have used his size vs Illinois. And Mulbah is one of the strongest guys maybe to ever play at PSU. Mulbah is 300 + LBS and was second team DT from what we heard before the first game off the season? Maybe not a good name but this is a game a 330lb Antonio Shelton type DT is needed.

Izzard and Vanover were DEs in HS and Ellies is a smaller only 6-1 DT.

Gemrich made a post a while back as to why he thought our run D was better. He said it's better to go with bigger 1 tech 300 plus LB DTs than your smaller 3 tech DTs that get you the occasional sack but aren't as strong against the run and eat up blocks. It makes sense and really showed this game vs Illinois. The Illini OL would not have pushed around Hansard or Mulbah. They could have at least rotated them in.
