Is that the narrative this week? I’d hate to see the voters give Franklin and the team credit for a big win on the road.

Of course, you know McSorley, Barkley and Gesicki are gone, in case you haven't heard. We're doomed.

Sportswriter generic template/topics (sentence starters) for Penn State post 2011.

1. The team they played was a bad mid-major and Penn State only beat them by 4 Or 5 TD’s.
2. The team Penn State played was exposed last week by a not very good (insert team of choice).
3. This is not likely to happen against (insert next opponent or check schedule to see if Ohio State/Michigan remain). (Explain why Ohio State/Michigan is so good, name co-ordinators, or cite series history)
4. Franklin (game management, clock management, player management, is a car salesman, etc) go from there.
5. Wait to see what the PAC-12 games results are, pick the one with the best record, always explain west coast bias and why this team is better than Penn State. (Works very well until best team has 3 losses)
6. Keep reminding readers how lucky Penn State is to even be playing football.
7. Joe Paterno is in fact the devil.

As others have pointed out, the experts were down on us after a close win over Pitt. OTOH, the experts were high on Maryland after a LOSS to Temple. It makes no sense but that's how they think. So we hammer Maryland and the experts will say the Terps were overrated therefore the win didn't mean much.

As far as I am concerned, this was an exponentially better win than the blowout against Idaho as Maryland actually has some real talent on their team.

But I doubt the pollsters ever take something like that into consideration.

Yeah this has been going on for decades. Prior to a given game, all we hear about is how (pick the team) is going to beat PSU because PSU is overrated, hasn’t played anyone, has boneheaded coaches, etc. Actually quite a few of the comments on this board this week regarding Maryland (Locksley and Maryland are going to do this, Rahne is in over his head, etc.). Then after PSU wins and in this instance destroys Maryland, all you hear from the “genius” critics is well the other team really wasn’t any good and wait until PSU plays a real team.

I once asked one of these gloom and doom experts who was pumping up the opponent to tell me BEFORE the game whether the opponent was any good because I didn’t want to hear after PSU best them that the opponent really wasn’t any good any way.

Destroying Maryland means we need teams in front of us to lose in order to move up. And if UVa beats ND they might jump us and we stay at 10/11.

Yes. need to make room in the top 10 for Michigan after they beat a powerful Rutgers team
Yes, this is clearly a "statement" game for Mighty Michigan, demonstrating they are back in the saddle again against fearsome Rutgers.
