Do we know who Early Enrollees are?

Hopefully a few WRs.

As previously posted in the 2020 recruiting thread......

BWI had a summary of the players currently intending to enroll early. Great to see a couple of highly rated DB's and and WR's enrolling early as there will be significant turnover at DB with at least Taylor and Reid moving on and the great need for playmakers at WR........

https://bwi.rivals.com/news/penn-state-set-to-welcome-another-large-group-of-early-enrollees

"On the offensive side, Penn State will welcome running back Caziah Holmes and offensive lineman Nick Dawkins, as well as two wide receivers: Jaden Dottin and KeAndre Lambert. The Nittany Lions will also welcome three defensive linemen; Cole Brevard, Fatorma Mulbah and Bryce Mostella, two defensive backs; Enzo Jennings and Joseph Johnson, as well as linebacker Tyler Elsdon."

2 definite ones, 1 that some speculate could be moved to the slot. Lambert has the build and talent to be our #3 WR quick.

I imagine you are saying that Dotson is #1. If outside WR's step up we may see Dotson move to the slot as a replacement for Hamler.

But based upon how the year ended is there really a clear #2 WR?

George (drops), CSB (injuries), Dunmore & Jones (as unknown as the true freshmen)......

The B/W game will be a good time to get a glimpse of the young WR talent. Dunmore, Jones, Lambert, Dottin, and hopefully CSB, George,....

Franklin doesn’t even know. Overheard at Lasch yesterday:

Franklin to Pry: Who the hell are these guys?

The two on the right might be projects:rolleyes:
The DB recruit second from the right is going to be an improvement over any of our current defensive backs. The recruit on the far right is in charge of beefing up any underweight player by demonstrating necessary eating habits.

Clear as in optimistic about who will be #2?

Definitely not.

Merely the assumption that Lambert is walking into a room with one proven player and he could emerge as a starter this off season.

CSB, if healthy/available, has shown good hands in limited action, but he just hasn't been able to get in the games with My regularity.

George has the physical tools to come in and be a nightmare, but he's got to fix his drops.

I'm probably in the minority, but I don't think the absence of Dunmore/Jones in '19 is a negative indicator of either one of their ability to contribute in '20. Towards the end of the season, our passing game was a mess. OL couldn't protect, QBs were inaccurate. Why put undersized guys in and shake their confidence?

Sure, CJF likes to redshirt all the players he can. But he also would have played a dynamic playmaking WR with all the drops and lack of playmakers at WR in 2019. So if either Dunmore or Jones would have been playmakers as true freshman and could have been difference makers, I believe they would have been on the field.

But from what we know, Dunmore was very thin and the year in the S&C program could result in him hitting the ground running in 2020. I don't believe I heard if Jone arrived at PSU with enough muscle to see the field or not....

That's the thing though. I don't think the "lack of play makers" at WR truly reared it's head until the Minnesota game when Shorter didn't jump/adjust to the first INT and then dropped two (I think) more passes, one a sure touchdown.

Previous to that game, the thought process was that "Rahne needs to game plan more throws to Shorter and George" and "Clifford needs to check down more/quit relying on Hammer". The reality in hindsight seems to be that the lack of use/faith in Shorter/George was not purely schematic nor Clifford only throwing to his security blankets.
