It seems that Michigan fans are getting restless in Ann Arbor (despite celebrating their Participation Trophy from Saturday). Losses to Notre Dame, MSU and OSU just might be enough to blow it all up and start from scratch.

JMO but I don't think the lose to ND or MSU.
And for the record I don't care what they do with Jimmah. He's not my problem he's theirs. :)

considering the coaches they've hired over the past decade plus, you should add a "Don't matter" option.

I don’t see them getting rid of Harbaugh. They all have too much invested in him, from the administration to the fans. They all had him seated at the right hand of God when he was hired. To back down now would be a huge mea culpa.

That might be, but how long do you ride a horse that can't get to the finish line?

You’re right for most of the college football world but he is the reincarnation of Bo Schembechler to them. They’ll ride it out a few more years convinced each offseason that this is the year Jimmy pulls it all together.

I want him to stay there forever....then an additional 5 years on top of that. Not only is he entertaining because he seems like such an unhinged douche (no offense to the normal douches out there) but I think it's becoming clear that he just may not be that good of a coach. So, basically perfect for those dopes in Ann Arbor.

I think Michigan is facing a philosophical conundrum.

I think Jimmah can probably win between 8 and 10 games per year for as long as he wants to be there. Many, many schools would be thrilled about be able to count on that record every year.

But Michigan is stuck in the 1970s where they believe that they should win the Big 10 two out of three years. They are, after all, Michigan men (/s)

Ironically, even if he did win the Big 10, if that didn't result in a CFB playoff appearance (and eventual NC), UM fans still wouldn't be happy (this is ironic because in Bo's day winning the Big10 (and beating OSU) were all that mattered; he didn't even really care that much about winning the Rose Bowl).

Every once and a while you will get programs that can have sustained success that results in multiple CFB playoff trips in a short period of time (Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, OSU), but that will be rarity not the rule. And getting your program to that status is not something that most school can achieve.

OK, so my off the cuff thoughts on who would take over if Harbaugh left Michigan (no particular order)....

1. Matt Rhule.
2. Les Miles
3. Mike Gundy
4. Bob Stoops
5. Kyle Whittingham

No idea if these are feasible, and these are simply off the cuff as I sit on a conference call....and I don't know enough assistant coaches out there that could possible step up. And to the best of my knowledge, they have not figured out a way to bring Bo back to life.

Start with Matt Ruhle and Matt Campbell and go from there. Stoops, maybe. Gundy not a Michigan type of guy, not conservative enough. Miles too old, brought up every time, not happening.

The UM faithful have been dumping loads of $$ into supporting the program since he arrived. UM fans may think they can be happier but I highly doubt UM is willing to take that gamble.

EDIT: If he'd leave on his own that'd be different than for UM to make a move. But I also won't believe any rumors at this point. Besides, it's not like he's Mr. Personality.

They just cite FootballScoop which is as Fake News as you can get.

Not a chance he leaves, if he really just lets Gattis take the reigns he could have something clicking up there on offense. Defense is a different story, he needs to move on from Don Brown ASAP
Are you f’ing insane, fire DON BROWN! Ohio State would hire him in a heartbeat. Saban would give him two of his Mercedes dealerships for DON BROWN. Franklin would fire Fry and grow an Afro for DON BROWN. Belichick would relinquish all defensive duties if he could hire DON BROWN. Why don’t you just stop and think before you post crazy stuff.

I’ve always believed that he’ll go back to the NFL. His brother has a Super Bowl ring at his expense. There is NO F*CKING WAY that Jimbo is going to his pine box with that hanging over his head.

Agree that those are the two obvious names among current HCs.

Rhule needs to beat Texas or Oklahoma to really ascend to that next level. I think he's a great coach -- would be my #1 choice if CJF were to leave or not work out for whatever reason (which I'm not afraid of happening). But I'm not sure if Michigan would grab him just yet. Not without one of those signature wins. We'll see here in a few weeks.

I don’t really care what he does. It doesn’t really matter what he does against us. What will matter is his ineptness against OSU. Eventually that will decide.

I want him gone I think he's the best they can do. His teams have been stellar every year and he would have had more success than Franklin thus far with just a little bit of luck.

We would be still be better off if he leaves. As underwhelming as he has been overall, he kicked our asses a few times and we lose recruiting battles to those guys often enough.

They are likely to be no better to worse without Jim.

Great. Now I am cleaning my afternoon coffee off of my computer monitor.

Harbaugh has humiliated PSU by 40 points in half of the last 4 games
If he sucks, what does that say about our program?

Jeff Brohm humiliated Urban Meyer last year. Is Purdue a better program than Ohio State?

I'd be careful about drawing sweeping conclusions on the basis of blowing out a PSU team in 2016 that hadn't really found its way yet, or a PSU team last year that was clearly underwhelming offensively and playing with a one-legged McSorley.

But that's just me.

Very little. We've won a conference title and were/are very close to winning another the other 3. They came close 1/4 years with an absurdly talented team.

War, not battles

I voted in the minority, preferring that he leave Michigan. Reasons:
  • Harbaugh is good for Michigan recruiting, but less a factor in winning. (That is more a function of coordinators, assistants, and players. Those will change regardless.)
  • Delany has to be pulling strings behind the scenes to allow these Michigan offseason international boondoggles. Obviously he wants to make Michigan relevant again. With both major players gone -- Harbaugh and Delany -- maybe someone gets the stones to end this. The status quo has to be helping Michigan recruit.

I guess so. They accepted the mediocrity of Bo and gave him legendary status. So if they can do that, they can live with Jimmy.
