do you think Hack is a lock to move to NFL after this season?

Barring injury or a disaster of a season I think he'll go pro, and will be a first round pick. As a Bears fan, I'm hoping they draft him. They will be looking for a Cutler replacement in next year's draft.

Of course I'd love to see Hack return as a senior, but I think he'll have little to gain in terms of draft status as long as he has at least an average year this season. He may be able to jump up to a higher pick if he returns, but the risk would be pretty high as well. While I love it when kids stay in school all 4/5 years (not just at PSU), I hate it when they get hurt and it costs them their NFL career and the huge initial contract opportunity.

Of course I think PSU will be better in 2016 than we will in 2015, so if Hack does return it could be for the opportunity to compete at the highest levels in the NCAA and to try to go out on a major high note. He certainly seems very competitive given his field and sideline demeanor. It wouldn't shock me if he comes back for this reason, but all things considered I'm assuming he'll go pro after this year.

Not for nuthin', but spoke to a person who knows the family pretty well, and they say Hack is thinking of staying for next year also. He wants his degree, because he told his family he would get one - he also thinks that he may have a shot with a team he would specifically like to play for, because they all have QBs that may be near the end of their career/contract. I was told Broncos, Chargers, Cardinals as potential places he would like/thinks he has a shot to play.

Again - not for nuthin'

had lunch with some friends today who are die hard CFB fans - mostly Mizzou fans, but they follow the game and pretty objective. We were talking top NFL prospects and how the BIG has some real stars possibly coming out this year. when I mentioned Hack, all of them seemed pretty surprised - like why would he come out? In this forum we assume this is a given, but would he leave if he did not have a serious improvement in his results this year?

Their view was he may not be among the top QBs in the BIG this year (Cook, OSU and Sudefield are all top level QBs), and his national ranking at position may push him outside round 1. his name doesn't seem to be showing up in the pre-season rags as a top early departure. given our OL is pretty much the same guys minus Miles and Donovan (the two best guys), you could see similar challenges to the offense.

IF he has a big season and is up for all kinds of awards - his leaving would seem pretty certain. But if 2015 is anything close to 2014, how does he gain by leaving? It seems the team will be so much stronger in 2016, would he be better off staying?

Hack is gone barring a miracle. He is probably the #1 overall pick of the draft. No ways he falls outside of top 10. And the guys mentioned below as having a bigger year in the big ten, cook etc......doesn't mean jack to the nfl. None of those guys will get drafted anywhere in the first rd....he has the size and arm strength nfl can't teach. He is willing to stay in pocket and take it a hit, he doesn't crumble. Both kiper and mcshay having going #1 overall right now.. Hack would have to get hurt physically not to be a top 10 pick at worst. Not being homer, being realistic. I hope beyond hope, Peyton rubs off on him and he stays for senior season to win. Peyton was in similar spot where he prob would've been #1 overall either yr if he came out. We'll see.......I'm def excited!!!

How much could Mizzou fans know about football?
Just the first three I found via google: CBS Sports rates Hack #2 in 2017 QB prospects (behind Cardale Jones), WalterFootball.com has him #2 (behind Connor Cook) in 2016 and SI has him among the top three QBs (with Jones and Cook) likely to be drafted in 2016.
But a lock? No.

Hack would need to really set the world on fire to have a chance this year. Staying another year would do him more good than harm IMO.

Hoping he stays becae the schedules sets up nicely for what could be a solid team led by a senior QB.

You'd be hard pressed to find an easier road slate in the BIG.

Hack is only 20 years old. Is it possible that his parents might advise him to wait until he is a little older than 21 to get knocked around by NFL athletes? Maybe such was the thinking of Oliver Luck when advising his son. I don't know, but I think Hack's age could be a factor in the decision.
