Dr. Kareem McKenzie

reading this you can see how for some players taking the 5th year in a redshirt where they are able to get a jump on grad school or earn a masters is a great advantage. John Urshel will likely get a PhD when he retires - if he doesn't do it while playing. McKenzie was just good, so extra time at PSU wouldn't help him. guys like Deon Barnes could have gained a lot - maybe get an MBA and an extra year of development physically.

Correct! But the NCAA isn't interested in furthering the academic career of the "true" student athlete. Television money is so great that they allow the false narrative that "college football is just the minor leagues" to propogate. The reality is an extremely small percentage of our Saturday players have a chance to even go to the combine. You can thank Mark Emmert and his ilk for this clustermuck (along with the weak presidents).

The article doesn't even mention that he's a Penn State graduate. Very curious / the casual fan wouldn't have a clue where he went to college for his undergraduate degree. Another case of p!ss poor journalism as at a minimum, stating what he majored in is totally relevant to the story.

Congrats to Kareem.
