Dual streak at 71 (updated Feb 21 2025)

Sounds like they truly “Squashed” the competition.

Cool dual streak, dorks.

Unrelated question, when is Roar going to do his big ten seeding projections? Can someone get him on the phone? I look forward to them every year.
Love some of the responses. But I checked with him and he has it mostly written. He said there is one more Big Ten Dual, Purdue/Nebraska, after that he will finish and release 2 weight classes at a time.

Yay for us! And thanks @RoarLions1 !!

How about streaks in all collegiate sports. Let's see how we compare.
177 by naia school, can't rember which. Might be 127, I'm worthless but its out there I read it yesterday, short term memory problems🤦

If PSU staff mimics next year's schedule similar to the most recent years, potential #77 will either occur during Journeyman Duals or early/mid January in early Big Ten action.

Hoping the AD can pull a few strings and schedules potential #77 as a home meet.
Kraft and the Big Ten should be very smart in promoting the potential record. It should be covered on Big Ten as a stand alone Friday night match. Allow 2 1/2 hours for it, cover a little more pre match and post match. Schedule the match in Bryce Jordan to allow 16K to see history in person. I would think Minnesota would be a good option for the opponent with its great history of wrestling. The record is 75 years old. It should be promoted to the hilt. Invite the guys back that were on the team when it started . Make it special.

PSU's women's volleyball team won 109 straight matches from 2007 to 2010, while winning 4 straight NCAA titles.
For those who haven't seen it... there is a B1G special called The Streak documenting this run and really the entire program from the time Russ took over.. It is extremely well done and is well worth a watch.. That team was absolutely UNREAL.. Will never be a run like that again in the sport..

I posted the entire video above, post #45

If people are going to try to manipulate the schedule for dramatic effect, and it can’t be against Iowa in Carver (because we love GIA tears), another logical choice would be a non-conference dual vs. OkieSt. I know, bad timing for non-conference, but it would be master vs. apprentice with school history on the line. There’s some drama for the media.

I do not believe Cael will contemplate anything out of the norm for one second, though. So I think this discussion is little more than a fun thought for our fans.

It needs to be a home match, so Iowa and Michigan are out.

Assuming we go to Journeymen again next year, it will be in early January -- 1st or 2nd match in calendar 2026.

That's the start of conference duals. Zero chance of B10 giving us an open date in that range for OKST or any other nonconference school.

We'll be lucky if B10 doesn't mindlessly make it a road match against Purdue or Indiana or Sparty.

Many here probably know this story and some may not. But Brandon FL high school won 459 straight dual meets over a 34 year period. Yes you read that right they didn't lose a dual for 34 years 🤣. They made a movie about it called The Streak. This is an article talking about them losing and the streak was broken South Dade knocked them off.

Ray Stevens did a song about it also.

the longest win streak in college sports is the Trinity College squash team. 252 consecutive victories, Ended in 2012. They also had 13 consecutive national titles, and their coach (who I knew in high school as a student) is one of the winningest coach in college 507w-29l
We should be able to pass that when Messenbrink's grandkid takes the helm.

I would hope they are not that stupid. I picked Minnesota knowing Iowa and Michigan were out. Ohio State would be another option.
Maybe they should talk to Brands and remind him that they still owe us a independent visit.
Go Home and Home with them in the same season.. I would like to see the Lollipop twins pucker on that.😏

Did the other squash schools complain that they were killing the sport of squash and needed parity.

Hello, please no.

Oky St alumni will want DT to get an early season match with PSU to try too break the streak. I don't see the PSU train derailing for a while!
Perhaps this is why the Paycom guy is sponsoring the National College Duals in early November at DT’s place. Cael has, thus far, been unexcited about having an event described as a “championship” at the front end of the season but the other top ranked teams have apparently expressed interest and the pressure might build on Cael to accept the challenge.

If I recall UCLA had a 88 ? game men's bball streak. It was stopped by Notre Dame on National TV on a weekend. I remember watching it..

Seriously? Who's going to be applying the pressure? Ryan? The Brands????

I can only think of two entities that may be able to pressure Cael into doing something. Kelly and God.

I think you’re confusing the pressure of others expressing support for such a concept and suggestion, directly or implicitly, that Penn State needs to be a participant, with such “pressure” actually being effective. One can be subject to pressure to do something without succumbing to that pressure. I agree that Cael is a person who has a plan and executes his plan despite what others might think or suggest he should do. Cael builds and schedules his teams for success in the post-season. That’s his one and only goal. The proposed National Dual Championships appear to be placed at the wrong end of the season to facilitate reaching that goal.

It is indeed the wrong end of the season for such an event. Many teams do not have their starting rosters settled before the end of December.

Cael isn't going to feel any pressure to participate.
If however, other programs do participate and they build a quality event that appears well run, fun and something that provides benefit to the participating programs minds can be changed.
The idea other coaches are going to tell Cael he has to do something, that is an angle of persuasion that is not going to be effective.

Might be true, but they can't hold it after NCAAs either. World Team Trials are in April. Most coaches (Cael and Taylor especially) will not subject their athletes to 4 high-intensity events with travel in under 2 months.

No, I was just attempting to be funny.

It seems we agree on this topic. Cael is not going to participate in this even if every other top team in the country goes unless:
  1. He thinks it will help the team and individuals accomplish their goals
  2. It helps grow wrestling and does not have a negative impact on #1

I think you see Penn st in Tulsa is November. It's 200k to the winner. With the NCAA saying you can have 30 scholarships that $ will cover 5 full rides. Penn st will get more scholarships than the 9.9 they've now but won't have 30. So that $ can help get more scholarships. Cael is a thinker no doubt he's already looking at things that way
