Dwayne Haskins

Yes, which is why I was so taken aback. I’m guessing that something happened overnight or this morning. Haskins was very bad yesterday, though.
He was awful, but no reason to cut him based on performance today. Could always do that in the offseason after you’ve fully explored the options. He’s not an awful cap hit, but still would have been nice to trade it rather than eat it.

He's a liability as far as not following protocol so they could have just suspended him through the rest of the season/playoffs then look for compensation in the off season, right?

How is he different than Drew Lock and company? Denver QB's all screwed up and outright cost them a game. That blew over quickly tho

True. But in the ESPN article I quoted it stated he got busted not following protocol "again". So how many times was it? Enough for a $40k fine. Remember this team is still in the playoff hunt and the head coach has Cancer.

I didn't watch the game but one of my friends who is a fan said something about Haskins running halfway out onto the field to talk to the backup quarterback late in the game? Can somebody who watched let me know what he's talking about?

It goes way deeper than the COVID stuff (but it doesn’t help)...the word earlier this year was that he wasn’t working hard enough, was showing up unprepared, etc. That was the word last season too, but it sounded like he worked a lot harder this offseason (and was named a captain). But he didn’t keep it up, and the new regime is trying to set a tone. I think a lot of his being released today is symbolic to send a message. But I would have liked to just make him inactive, even tell him to stay away from the facility, and look for a deal.

Maybe something happened within the past 24 hours, but he voluntarily spoke to the media after yesterday’s clunker after being told he didn’t have to, which I thought was a sign of maturity.

He just ran out during a timeout to slap 5 (so did Chase Young). It wasn’t anything really, although it was the only emotion he showed after getting benched.

No he didn’t. He left without speaking to the media (which is mandatory) and then did a zoom from home hours later after the team had to track him down

Haskins hasn’t been that bad on the field, so he must be the laziest and most terrible teammate possible to get cut like this. Remember, he was seated because Snyder liked him, and for Snyder to sour on him so quickly he must be a complete train wreck.
He’s been dreadful. In 16 games:

267/444 60.1% 2804y 12TD 14INT 12 fumbles 74.4 Rating

I have a friend who does alumni volunteering activities at Bullis, which is the high school that Haskins went to. He told me that it was well known that Haskins was an idiot and there were issues with his attitude dating back to high school. Haskins' issues in Washington was that he didn't learn the playbook, he did not take criticism well, and that he demonstrated a bad attitude due to a sense of entitlement.

By the way, Christian Veilleux, our 2021 recruiting class Quarterback, comes from the same high school as Haskins, so hopefully he is A LOT smarter than Haskins.

Another “problem child” from a football factory that neither recruits nor cultivates character in their players.

Success, but very rarely with honor.

Agree completely...PSU would never even consider recruiting those guys like Justin Fields or Terrelle Pryor that end up at OSU.
So PSU is a football factory and does everything like O$U because we recruit similar players who end up being questionable character guys? You think Haskins ends up exactly where he is if he went to PSU? Possibly but as a PSU supporter I would like to think we do develop guys of higher character. So if they are questionable when they get to the program we can mold them into good teammates and people. Won't happen all the time but I would hope and believe we are better at it than O$U.

Read the post I responded to...it said that OSU doesn’t recruit players with character. News flash...we are recruiting the same players.

Maybe there’s a reason guys like pryor and haskins don’t end up at PSU.

I thought I read that he was told that Heineken or whatever his name is was going to meet with the media and that he was not required to. Sometimes mixups get blown way out of proportion, especially when there might be a "juicy" story to get clicks

Haskins is getting hit hard in the DC area because he's a first rounder who played himself into the #3 slot on the depth chart behind Kyle Allen and Alex Smith. Worse, the rumors have been that one of the reasons that he looks lost most of the time is that his game prep leaves something to be desired. If he was playing well, it would probably be treated as a case of a young man having a lapse in judgment. Unfortunately, he looks like a bust, to some degree of his own making, who will force Washington to spend resources trying to find a long term replacement.
I really thought he was a reach at that pick to begin with. This is not surprising.

photographed at a strip club without a mask. He copped a plea and apologized. he didn't even go down the "peaceful protest" route! This is a violation of the NFL policy, BTW.

If I were the Steelers I would sign Haskins. His main problem is maturity. He still has an upside. Heck, Ben was pretty immature when he signed with the Steelers. He actually might be able to help the kid out.
